Top Five: Favorite Recent Remixes

It's been a while since I've done a Top Five post, and I think it is about time this got a revival. This go around I decided to go through my favorite remixes. I had to ponder for a long time on whether it should be "of 2012", but instead I went with "recent" because a few of them that I still listen to today pre-date this year.

Let me also take a moment to explain exactly what I find a "good remix" to be. First off it has to be exciting. Nobody likes a boring song. Secondly, it needs to have the lyrics in tact. I don't want a remix of an artists song with the lyrics only spliced in every couple of minutes, or reduced to an annoying constant stutter where nothing is audible. Lastly, I generally fall in love with remixes of songs that I liked to begin with, and the remix gives it either new life or a new point of view. Now that I have that settled, we can move on to our first song.

5. Nadia Oh - No Bueno (Cory Martin Remix)

It wouldn't be a top five list without Nadia. I placed her so low on the list because the original song isn't even close to being one of my favorite tracks by her (She has an amazing musical library), but this remix really saved the song for me. The remix is sped up from the original, but keeps that same Nadia vibe. I guess I had just had too much Moombahton for one sitting when she had released the original. Thankfully this remix came out and saved the day.

4. Katy Perry - E.T. (Silveradio Remix)

So what if Silveradio is a friend of mine? Big whoop? Wanna fight about it? Anyway, it takes a lot of talent to take a song that I can barely stand and meld it into something I not only like to listen to, but carry on my iPod. "E.T." was my least favorite song on the entire "Teenage Dream" album. I mean... it's like she's punching you in the face with her beat, and kicking you in the nuts with her singing. With a little magic, Silveradio has managed to create a great mix out of this trainwreck of a song.

3. Frankmusik & Colette Carr - No I.D. (X-Cell Remix)

I am as surprised as you are that this song isn't number one. I actually listen to this remix more than the original. The lyrics seem better placed, and the faster pace makes more sense to me. I actually like most of X-Cell's work so far, but this is the one track that really stands out to me. I already loved "No I.D." and it stands today as my favorite collaboration (mostly because I stan for both Frankie and Colette). Why is the song so low? Well I originally thought it was going to be number two (yes, there is someone I love ever so slightly more) but then I found the next song. Number two will not shock anybody at all.

2. Koda Kumi - Poppin' Love Cocktail feat. TEEDA (TeddyLoid Remix)

I love Koda Kumi. The end.

Seriously, though, the remix is even better than the original. I have been blasting this song non stop for the past week, and I haven't gotten sick of it yet. This song is the first track off her compilation "Driving Hits 4", which is actually one long mix by remix duo House Nation. I don't even care that this branches off into dubstep. Let the haters hate. It's Koda Kumi for Jesus's sake!

1. Everything by Jared Jones EVER

I posted "Hot Couture" by Manila Luzon as an example of how amazing this guy is. He has done remixes for all the Drag Race ladies, as well as some other prominent music artists such as gay rapper Jipsta. Everything this man does is golden. If I ever get to record my own music, I will be beating down his door to get him to do a remix for me. Hell, I have half a mind to obsessively send him emails about songs and groups I love just to hear what he could come up with. Thankfully between his work for RuPaul and his stunning Willam mix, I have enough to keep me satisfied... for now.
