Even More RuPaul Themed X-Mas On The Way With Drag Race Album

Yas, hunties! It has been confirmed that we are getting even more holiday cheer in the form of men dressed up as woman. Who care about tradition? These ladybois are ready to rock you, and they don't give a damn about morals. Well maybe Ginger does, but the rest don't! So let's check out this sexy and sleek new RuPaul's Drag Race alumni Christmas album!

That's right! All of your faves are back! As long as your faves are Alaska, Ginger Minj, Miss Fame, Sharon Needles, Courtney Act, Katya, Jiggly Caliente, Detox, Darienne Lake, Ivy Winters, Pandora Boxx, Violet Chachki, Phi Phi O'Hara, Jinkx Monsoon, and Manila Luzon, because that's who alls on it. I see a lot of names that I have come to know and love, so I for one am excited about it. People Magazine online broke the story earlier this week, and people have been going crazy! I'm very glad to see Manila back, yet again. She, along with Pandora Boxx (who also is a delight to see) are the only ones that aren't on the more recent seasons, being from the third and second seasons respectively. Nobody from the first season made the cut despite Ru's obsession to this day with Bebe. Weird, right? Willam, Alaska, and Courtney (the AAA Girls) really dominate the album, so it would seem they are the masterminds behind this.

The preorder is TBA, but the release is coming November 13, just in time to annoy the hell out of everyone for playing Xmas music before Thanksgiving!

Manila Luzon Wants You To Take In All That Body

Let's be real. Who doesn't love Manila Luzon. If that person is you get the hell out of here because I talk about her literally all the time. She's the best queen from the RPDR girls period, and she's got a new video. So again, if you don't like her, you're gonna hate this video. Check out "This Body" by Manila Luzon.

This is the perfect example of me not digging a song too much until I got to see the video. When I first heard this track, it really didn't stand out to me. It was a bit overshadowed by some of Eternal Queen's other marvelous vocal stylings. Thankfully Manila has shown me the light, and has given us all this sexy and hilarious music video for us all to enjoy.

Manila has always been pushing the boundaries, and I really think that the video's body-positive message is great. Sure there were a lot of sexy men in undies dancing around, but here were also big girls, tattooed men, fem boys, and  gender blurrs. "This Body" features a lot of different, well, bodies. I think it sends a great message to her fans that everyone can be in love with their body, and there's gonna be someone out there who's just as in love with it too.

The camp factor helps get this point across pretty well. For most of the video, Manila is dressed as an old woman, and she makes it sexy. Manila has always been the perfect mix of sex appeal and camp, and she's never proven that moreso than with this video. Real-life bestie Raja makes an appearance in the video too, reminding us all that a TV show brought together two great friends who have stood the test of time.

Manila Luzon Goes Around The World In New Video "Stuck On You"

Manila Luzon always drives me crazy with her videos. Sure he music is fun and catchy, but this bitch knows how to make a hot music video. Whether it's her and Latrice kiki-ing, Lil' Manila trying on drag for the first time, or a sweet tribute to her greatest love, she always has something new and fun to keep the viewers happy. This time she's jet-setting around the globe (well green screening around the globe). Check out the official video for "Stuck On You".

There is a lot happening in this video! We've got a super hot hunky man that plays her boyfriend for this video, stuck at home while Manila is touring around the world. We get to see another one of Manila's crazy yet amazing fashion ideas, making a full dress out of post-it notes (as if a dress made of wigs wasn't insane enough!). My favorite part, though, was the destination sections. These pieces were obviously the least "polished" parts of the video, being shot in front of a green screen with some rather cheesy on screen effects, but it was charming and funny. Plus she was giving me Koda Kumi realness in the screen cap I took above.

Unlike many music videos out today, most of Manlia's have plot lines, and this is no different. As I said before her sexy boyfriend (who apparently has a massive drawer full of hot underwear that make his thing look HUGE), is left at home while she is touring. For the first half of the video it's all good, but eventually he gets lonely and frustrated. After a big blowup, and a cameo from fellow RuPaul's Drag Race alum Bianca Del Rio, it didn't look like things would end well. Luckily for the sake of not being horribly depressed (for Manila's sake! Again I digress, that man is smoking!) she shows up at the end and surprises him with supper and a kiss and all is well.

Is this the best Manila music video to date? No, probably not. But is it miles beyond those doing the same thing as her from the same background? Certainly. While other Drag Race ladies do music for fun or for extra cash, Manila has made a career out of it, and it's very obvious that she takes the time to really try and be professional and look polished in everything she releases. She's now going on four years of being off of the show, so she has to try even harder and push even more to be in the spotlight with the crowd of sisters becoming bigger and bigger each year. I think she's doing a damn fine job at it, too.

Also she did a Harajuku look. Eat it, Avirl Lavigne. (Not you, Gwen Stefani. You can stay.)

Manila Luzon Teases New Music Video "Stuck On You"

Manila Luzon is a genius. There. I said it. She is a drag genius. She is a graphic genius. She is also a music genius. I feel like of all the musical RuPaul's Drag Race queens, she really has skyrocketed past the show and developed her own brand. She is continuing said brand with her new ongoing project Eternal Queen, an ode to her lost love Sahara Davenport. Now she's vowed to keep the project going with another single off the album "Stuck On You".

"Stuck On You" is one of the best songs out of Eternal Queen, so I am beyond ecstatic that she chose this to be the next single. The EP was just too massive to only have one single or video. This track follows along in the same vein of "Eternal Queen", this song is very vocal in her feelings toward Sahara. This track is a bit less touching and a bit more extreme, but it still it is very sweet of her.

This single was the clear choice for a second single off of the EP.  It keeps in the theme of the work as a whole that serves as a tribute to her lost lover. I love how Manila is so open with her fans about the struggles in her life, and these two songs are the ultimate culmination of the entire last two years. All of her pain and sorrow have finally turned around and returned to the love that she once had.

In an unusual twist of events, Manila hasn't actually posted any previews of the video, keeping it much more tightly under wraps than her previous projects. All we have so far is the cover of the single (which I assume is from the video), and a lyric video. The video is set to premier January 22 and all of her Fanilas are on edge waiting for any scarps she can give us.

Album Review: Cazwell - Hard 2 Be Fresh [#TheReturn Day Six]

It's been a long time since I've reviewed an album. I knew when I saw this album pop up for pre-order, I knew I had to give it a go. Luckily the timing was perfect for #TheReturn, so we will get to see what I can come up with for this gem. This album has been a long time coming, and it also features one of my favorite lovelies -- Cherie Lily. Hellz yeah! Let's get into this.

Countdown Of The Best RuPaul's Drag Race Runway Songs [#TheReturn Day Four]

Believe it or not, this was one of the hardest countdowns I've ever had to do. I have been watching Drag Race since it's first season, and each year I feel like it can't get any better, and yet somehow it usually seems to surprise me. I say "usually" because number six is the one exception. You'll see. Anyway this is just for the main series.No All Stars or Drag U. Let's get started.

6. The Beginning (Season 5)

Yup. I like "The Beginning The least. It was just so forgettable. Compound that onto a season that in itself wasn't remarkable, and you have one of the worst. It's not a bad song (I don't think RuPaul can make a bad song), but it's not really something I would have chosen to front an entire season. I think the concept for the video was strained, and that it didn't really give the girls a g good thumping beat to prance down the runway to. This one was a full miss for me.

Manila And Jinkx Team Up For New Song

I was originally going to wait until the full track was out, but the internet seems to be going literally insane over this track already, so I figured I'd hop on it as soon as possible. It looks like Manila has enlisted fellow RPDR alumni and current crown holder Jinx Monsoon to help out with her new track. What do they have in store for us? Well it is Manila Luzon we are talking about, so it's bound to be crazy!

NewNowNext broke the story (that Manila had already basically given away on her Facebook), and people are very excited over this one. Since it's not show-related, we get to hear about it before hand, instead of it appearing out of nowhere like "The Chop". They seem to have put a lot of time and energy into this one, and I for one am beyond excited for it's release.

Jared Jones, who also produced "The Chop", had apparently sent Manila a new song he wanted her to record. Manila was hesitant about there being a rap part, so she decided to have a feature instead. Who better to rap in a drag queen song than another drag queen? And who better to ask than the one queen who rivals even Sharon Needles's popularity? Personally I think this was a genius move, especially since they both capture camp without being one-note with it.

Which brings me to the topic of the video. This is pretty much all they gave away. There was no snippet of the song in the interview, just the two talking. Apparently they are fairy drag mothers... who rap... and dress up like Spongebob and Patrick. I have no idea how all of those things really go together, but I can NOT wait to see Jinkx's Patrick Star outfit. They've got some other looks, such as partiers and workout spandex. Ivy Winters had a hand in some of the costuming, which wasn't much of a surprise given her closeness with Manila lately.

So who is excited for this song? It's not Manila's only track coming out. She has a song with gay rapper Cazwell coming up, and she's been hinting on Facebook of another project that is coming to realization. Manila is not going to let 2013 go to waste, it seems. That's good for me because in my heart, Manila won both season three and All Stars!

Manila Luzon Is Back With "One Night In Bangkok"

You know what I love the most about Manila Luzon? She doesn't quit. Many of the girls from Drag Race shine for a the year their season airs and them fade into a life of touring at your local clubs. Manila is different in that she is not going to let you forget her name. And by that I mean she's got a new song for us all. A cover of Murray Head's 80s hit "One Night In Bangkok".



Manila is breaking all kinds of boundaries this year, isn't she? First she is the first RPDR girl to break a million with an original tune, now she's the first RPDR girl to make a music video in 3D. Most of the video was apparently shot on a whim back in January. Let's assume that Manila is absolutely flawless 100% of the time if this is true.

Oh, Manila. What will you come up with next? This actually comes as a bit of a surprise to me, as Manila has released all original tracks up until this point.  This, however, is a cover of a song from a musical called "Chess" which released a concept album along with it, containing the original version of this track. Manila stays very faithful to the original 80s vibe of the track, as well as a lot of the visual concepts in the original video.

There wasn't a whole lot changed from the original track, the only notable portion being when she adlibs during some of the downtime for the verses. While the song is fun, I don't feel like it's really a Manila track. It feels a little more upbeat and less electronic than we are used to hearing from her, but seeing as she's only had three songs before, I guess it can be a bit unfair to say what is or isnt her style.

The video is pretty amusing, to say the least. Manila in boy mode is doing the majority of the verses, in a nightclub where he seems to be doing standup. Meanwhile, we get to see various styles of Indian themed dresses, including goddesses getups and hats that look like temples. There's your mandatory Manila cross-eyedness as well as a lot of funny faces and head shakings.

Though fun, it feels a bit underwhelming for her first new track of 2013. I can say, however, that this is definitely not the last we'll hear of her. She's got two more projects slated to premier in the coming weeks; one is a project with NYC's famous gay rapper Cazwell, and another is a song with Jinkx Monsoon, winner of season five. She's also featured in a new music video, which I will be bringing you more info on later this week!

Manila Luzon's "Hot Couture" Hits One Million

Seriously, how is this not huge news? I mean people made a huge deal about Juju passing up Ru herself in Facebook fans, but nobody's gonna congratulate one of the first Drag Race ladies to reach one million hits on YouTube? For shame. Well here at Taking Over The Universe, we NEVER forget our favorite (and not just favorite runner up, either), Manila Luzon!



You know what I really like about this video? It's all about Manila. It's not about the hot backup dancers. It's not about the cameos (remember, at the time we only knew Jiggly's name, not how she was going to be portrayed on the show). It's not about Drag Race. It's just about Manila and how fabulous she is. I think that might be what boosted this video to such heights in just over a year. You can also attribute the fact that this video is of AMAZING quality, and I did a pretty dope review of it, too.

Ok, so Willam has beaten her three times over, but when you divide that by three (for Detox of season five and Vickie who is obviously top pick for season six) it sort of evens out. Don't let that deter you from seeing how big of a deal this is. Just consider how many girls from the show are making music. As seen in last week's recap episode, there are literally too many to name. Then again, maybe I'm just a huge fan of hers. This is her best track so far, but I'd be willing to bet she isn't gonna stop any time soon. Three singles in one year is impressive, nonetheless.

Interview: Producer Jared Jones On Manila Luzon and Latrice Royale's "The Chop"

I keep telling myself that I won't overload my site with RuPaul's Drag Race posts, but how can I resist talking about Manila? Sure, she may have gone home, and yes, I have next to no reason to continue watching the season, but who the hell cares? She's released a new song! Thanks to my relentless social-media whoring, I've finally made a few connections, and what do you know -- My friend Jared Jones, the famed Drag Race Remix King, dropped by to give me the scoop on "The Chop".

Ru Paul's All Stars Drag Race Recap - Ru Paul's Gaff-In

Has it already been a week? Well I guess it has. It's time for another episode of Ru Paul's Drag Race Team Edition. The most obnoxious twist to a reality competition ever continues to send two girls home per episode, meaning we get to see even less of them this season! Yay us! Anyway, its time for the second installment, where we see the Snatch Game. Oh wait, I mean the Not Snatch Game.

Drag Race All Stars First Look

It is coming. I may not seem too excited about it as of late (it's hard to be excited when we've lost someone so special, but I'm keeping my head up), but I am beyond ready to see some of my favorites return to the show to prove themselves again. Thankfully Logo is really bad at keeping things wrapped up too tight, and has decided to show us the first few minutes of the show, with the queens arriving in the work room. Of course two of my favorites are highlighted, but for two extremely different reasons. Manila Luzon was picked up in the promo because of how outrageously fabulous she is. She has the most extreme look of the group, with her hair literally holding an old fashioned cigarette in her Cruela outfit. Her attitude is sharp as always, and I have a feeling that she is going to snatch the crown this year. She may have some tough competition, but she has what it takes.

The best part of the whole promo had to be seeing Mimi Imfurst walk into the work room. Literally everyone  lost it. Of all the queens, Raven seems the most upset to see her back. I'm not sure if they have a history, or if I'm just not remembering Raven as being such a bitch on things that don't have much to do with her. Either way, the entire room went up into a roar of laughter and anger when she walked in. I guess some people are just jealous.

The footage we are seeing is taken from a few minutes into the show. We don't get to see the first queens walk into the room (I would have liked to see Tammie Brown's entrance), and many of the other queens were pushed to the background to make way for some of the big names. Pandora Boxx, for instance, is hardly even shown or noticeable in the background of the happenings while Manila, Chad, and Mimi make their way into the work room.

I have mixed feelings about this promo. Half the fun of the show is seeing a new set of girls come in to make a name for themselves. Then again, I have such love for Pandora, Raven, Mimi, Tammie, Manila, and many of the others that made it back onto the show. Many of the girls had connected before and after their season with girls from other seasons, so the dynamics and alliances will be fun to discover. The show probably has a few surprises up it's sleeve, so stay on your toes.

The first episode goes down October 22, in just over a week. The premier will be dedicated to the memory of Sahara, which is a very kind gesture from Logo. Are you ready for the madness to begin?

Double Video Debut - Manila Luzon + Dragonette

Things have been completely cray lately in the real world (not the show, though. My life is much more batshit insane). It's about time I consolidate things and get this in order, don't you think? Well as I was in the middle of typing up a hilarious story about Dragonette's new video (which is mostly still in tact below), Manila Luzon fell from the sky and dropped her newest music video on us all.  It's gonna be a ride, folks.



Where do I even begin? This video is not exactly what I was expecting. With her first music video being flawless and the single for this video itself being very good, I was expecting to be blow away. I have to say I wasn't, sadly enough. At least not completely.

The looks were right on, and the humor was there as always. What really bothered me was the horrible obvious green screening. It looked less polished than "Hot Couture", which is the opposite direction of most indie artists who start out small and eventually scale up to more fancy videos. That being said, she looks STUNNING throughout, and tossing in her boo (and mine!) Sahara into the mix, proposing to her with a cock ring was priceless.

Next up: Dragonette with their... different music video for their amazing single "Live In This City".



What can I say? Much like Jerry Springer, we love lesbians. That's not too politically incorrect is it?

Song of the Week - Best XXXcessory

I had no choice. It's just too fabulous. One of half of me wants to think that if I keep choosing drag queen tracks for this that they will overrun my entire website (especially with All Stars and Season Five of Drag Race being almost back to back), but the other half of my head just says "F*ck that. It's Manila, bitch!" Guess which side of my brain I listen to more.

I don't know if Manila is capable of making a bad song. She is a very talented song writer and very good at working with what she's got. Is Manila Luzon the best singer ever? No, and she knows it. She is, however, good at balancing fabulousness and camp in a way that just works. This go around she is going for a more electro-rock sound, adding in some pretty rad guitar riffs and a more driving beat. Manila's voice is much more heavily autotuned than "Hot Couture" for the most part -- until the bridge where her voice sounds very raw. This part was probably obviously left that way due to the sincerity in the lyrics.

The lyrics are my favorite part of the song, actually. The entire song is a metaphor for having the best boyfriend in the world. The song is like a personal love letter to Sahara that Manila made into a song. Lines like "You dress me up" and "I could even wear a brown paper bag/cause with you on my arm the kids will gag" show both comedy and caring. This song feels better in almost every aspect to her debut, and that song was practically perfect anyway.

I guess what I'm trying to say is how the hell could I not pick this as Song of the Week?
Everything about it is so sparkly!

First Listen - Raja "Sublime"

And from the sky falls a new Raja song. Much like her first track, I guess I just missed the media hype for it (if there was any) but I'm glad I caught it. Raja may not be the next Beyonce, but he knows hot to make a good song, and how to have fun with it. Thus, the second I found out there was a second song, I knew I had to give it a spotlight. Check out "Sublime".

Coming in at just over four minutes, this song is a nice electronic romp at a much more uptempo feeling that Raja's first attempt. The pulsating keyboard track often time overpowers his voice during the verses, but he picks up the volume during the chorus and bridge. This beat was certainly made for dancing in a club, which given that he will probably be performing the track live on his club touring, makes a lot of sense.

Lyrically this song is pretty amusing. Raja never seems to take himself too seriously, even when he does look as fabulous as the look on the cover for the single. Lyrics like "I want you deep inside of me," and "I want your love all over me" chanted in the bridge over such poppy sounding techno beats is an obvious Raja move, having watched him closely on Drag Race season three to catch onto his little quirks.

I had no idea what to expect going into this single. "Diamond Crowned Queen" was a really odd track, and I didn't know if he could pull off a follow up to it. Thankfully, he has kept the music machine moving smoothly, allowing a very hot track to come out with a nice dusting of camp to keep it draggy and fun. Much like his fellow Heather, Manila Luzon, Raja knows how to create a song that, on the surface, sounds very impressive and hot, but doesn't take itself seriously.

I guess now we just have to wait for him to release an equally awesome music video to accompany this track. I can't even imagine what the video would be about or include. I can only hope that the single's cover would be involved in the process somehow, because it looks gorgeous, and if that is what Sublime is to Raja, that is what it should be to everyone.

The track is smart without being preachy, and campy without being silly. It's fun to listen to and yet it keeps itself from falling prey to being overly campy like many other drag songs do. This may be the best song released by a drag queen this ye-- Oh Manila has a new song out. Uhoh.

Manila Luzon Reveals New Song Promo

Ooh La La~. Manila Luzon has been your favorite queen (riiiight?) since she first debut on the third season of Ru Paul's Drag Race. She was quick to jump on the queens making music bandwagon, but she was not about to release a song that sounded cheap -- and now she's proving that the gap between song one and song two is justifiable with an amazing preview released exclusively to her fans on Facebook.




Yup. Manila Luzon is back (not that she really went anywhere), and she has announced her second single "Best XXXcessory". It's been almost a year since her debut with "Hot Couture", and it looks like she won't be hopping genres on us any time soon. Much like her last single, she is releasing clips beforehand to garner more hype.

The clip she has released now is the hook from the new song, where she repeats "X-X-Xcessory" a few times in a highly manipulated voice. Even more so than her last single, her voice sounds like it has been run through a computer three or four times. Do I mind? Not really. It sounds good, so I don't care as much. Other fans, however, have not taken the extreme voice effects very well. In her defense, she simply said "Of course! Fake Hair, Fake Tits, Fake Voice!"

No release date has been announced yet. It's only been a few hours after all, but I'll keep an eye out to give you more information as it becomes available.

Live Review: Manila Luzon and Sahara Davenport In Memphis

It's pretty much common knowledge that I live in the middle of nowhere (the Deep South of the Midwest -- IE NOTHING HERE), but I do live within short driving distance of Memphis, Tennessee, which is thankfully starting to pull in big names for the drag world. This was the first time I have gotten to see a live performance from one of the Drag Race girls, and I am glad that of all of them, it was my girl Sahara and her equally amazing partner, Manila.

The show had a lot of both local Memphis talent, as well as imported talents. A big highlight of the show was definitely Florida queen Andromeda Strain, who didn't get a lot of attention due to not being from Memphis and not being a Drag Race girl (Yet, hopefully!). I did have to give her a hug, though, because she did amazing for both of her numbers.

Other very memorable performances were Anita Cocktail and her amazing Wonder Woman costume, and Memphis vet Beverly Hills. Also, my new friend I made at the venue actually thought Akasha, the stand out Memphis diva, was an actual woman. Now that is how you werk it.

First up for the headliners was Sahara. She came out looking super disco-fied, and sang both of her singles, "Pump With Me" (to which I was pissed that nobody knew the lyrics) and "Go Off!". That woman got CRAZY on the stage, just like I knew she would. High kicks and splits were abound, and the crowd ate - it - up. My favorite part was knowing that Sahara really is a great singer. She sang her two songs live, and sounded just as good as the recording.

Manila came out shortly after and got the crowd going with a sexy remix of her track "Hot Couture". With furry shoulderpads that look like they were stolen off the set of Designing Women, she strutted her stuff and sang along, and to my surprise, she was being quite modest about her vocal talents. The song we know and love obviously had some autotune on it (to which she fully admits) but her live vocals aren't bad at all. Towards the end of the song she pulled not one, but two "I Mwah Manila" shirts out of her shoulderpads (how she kept them up there and hidden, I have no idea) and tossed them to the crowd. I didn't try for one because, well, I already was wearing one.

After a break, the two of them came back on the stage to do a duet together. I say duet, but it was more like a battlefield. They would constantly try to outshine each other, in a playful manner, and keep it totally campy. I am a huge Sahara fan, but I have to say, when it comes to camp, nobody can outshine Manila. Those crazy faces had me rolling and begging for more.

I'm no club kid, but I have to say that Jack Magoo's was a great place to check out. The food looked good (my mind was set on drag and therefor too busy to eat), the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was amazing. The beauty of the place is that it isn't just a gay bar. It has sports on the TV, plenty of people of all sexual preferences, and plenty of booze to keep everyone happy. I can already guarantee I will be back -- mostly because this is only the beginning of an entire Drag Race event series at Jack Magoo's. Sahara Davenport and Manila Luzon Cover "Supermodel"

I love these two a lot. Sahara, who was one of the first people to jump on and help out here at Taking Over The Universe, and I really owe her so much. As far as Manila, I may not have interviewed her yet, but she still retweets and makes amazing music for me to talk about. These two have finally done a song together, which is what every fan of theirs has been asking of them since they started making music. They worked together to cover momma Ru Paul's classic hit "Supermodel."

Jared Jones Remixes Drag Race Royalty

I've quickly become a fan of Jared Jones. He is becoming popular in the music community, and it's easy to see why. After doing a mix for Ru Paul's smash "Sexy Drag Queen", he has now set his sights on new targets. Jared is releasing not one, but two mixes with queens from the hit TV show Ru Paul's Drag Race, Willam, resident bad girl from season four, and Manila Luzon, the runner up from season three.

First up, he did a special remix of "Trouble", the club single from season four's Willam. I really like this version of the song (which is already available on iTunes!) because it not only extends the depressingly short track, but it also give the song an entire new raw and dancey feel. The clip below won't even do the full track justice, and you can get an even longer preview on iTunes. Give it a shot, and let me know what you think.




His other remix, which has a release date of "very soon" according to Manila, may be the best remix to come from Mr. Jones yet. I love the placement of the vocal notes, using actual bits she sang but rearranging them so that it sounds completely different. I love that it will be a "radio mix" as well, meaning that is a bit more mainstream and keeps the original flow of the song. I have been waiting months for this one, Ms. Luzon, so "very soon" needs to speed up a bit!




Jared Jones has certainly become the go-to mix artist in the gay realm of music. I guess doing exclusives with Ru Paul will do that for you. I hope that he can continue to work with the Drag Race ladies, as well as other up coming artists such as Jipsta (for whom he remixed "Lover Who Rocks You", and did a freaking fantastic job).

Video Review - Hot Couture

Yeah. I know the video has only been out for a few hours. Do you not trust me to do a review in such short notice? How dare you! Anyway, this video is sickening. No really. There is no other word in the entire English language that could describe this video, but I'mma do my best to sum it up for you guys.
