Marina And The Diamonds Releases Video For "Blue"

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. I am in love with Froot by Marina And The Diamonds. She has made the perfect album this time around. I could find little at fault with it, and it seems like that trend is continuing. She's now putting out her second single from the album, "Blue", and the video is ready to go.

This video is rather peculiar. Not in a bad way, but in a very Marina way. There's not much as far of a plot, per say, but it's not like other pop videos of various shots of the person singing. It has a vibe, one that is hard to describe. Again, the best way to really describe it is to say it's just Marina.


The setting takes place in an abandoned local fair.  The camera changes venues between her at a food stand (continuing the Froot motif), a carnival ride, and even her as a psychic doing palm readings. Now that I think about it, until the end of the video she's actually completely alone, fitting in with the song's theme of only being with someone so she's not lonely.

At the end of the video we get to see Marina do some pretty fun choreography, being the closest thing to a regular pop video that we've gotten so far. She's got a very different way of going about everything she's done up to this point, including her take on videos. She may have ditched her "Primadonna" character from her early days, but she's not lost that spark that makes her unique.

Album Review - Marina And The Diamonds "Froot"

Oh. My. God. I started off not liking Marina one single bit. I found the idea of her somewhat jarring, but damnit if she didn't finally win me over with her previous album Electra Heart. In fact, I was so attached to that "era" in Diamonds' history that when she announced that album's character was now gone to make room for something new, I was a bit taken aback. But don't worry. This album is good. So, so good.

"I'm A Ruin" Is The Froot Of The Month For Marina And The Diamonds

A few months back, indie-pop mega-hit singer Marina and the Diamonds announced she would be back in 2015 with a new album, and every month leading up until the release of said album will be a free track for everyone who has pre-ordered their album. This month she continues to follow through on that promise, and we have got their newest gem, "I'm A Ruin".

Anybody else get a Morello from Orange is the New Black vibe from this photo? Just me?

This song is a bit more of a slow jam. People who listen to the radio these days might see similarities to Lorde, given the airy vocals and drum machines, but those familiar with Marina know this bitch can make a low key track like no other. While this isn't exactly a premier single, it does show another side of what they can do, and gives FROOT an more three dimensional feel.

The song itself, as far as the current FROOT lineup goes, falls somewhere between "Happy" on the lower spectrum and "Immortal" on the higher spectrum as far as enjoyability. This gives the album four incredibly solid tracks. While the title track may be the only one that really lives up to the upbeat electronic sound that they presented with her last album, the new sound is really solid and still feels at home in both her vocal range and her musical taste.

There are still so many stories left to tell with FROOT. We have eight more tracks to discover and fall in love with, and with the album still two months away and only one free track left, we may be in for the long haul until this tasty bit arrives on our plates.

Marina and the Diamonds Confirm New Album + Release Date

Marina and the Diamonds is officially back! I love her style, and I've been digging "Froot" since it dropped on SoundCloud some weeks ago. Apparently this is the title track for her new album, and it's already up for preorder despite being quite a few months away. But there is a method to the madness -- and it's one hell of an awesome method.

So the album has been put up for preorder online already, with a release date of April 6, 2015 (and for only 8 dollars if you go through iTunes!). This is unusual in a number of ways, the first being that it's set for so far off, yet it's already up for preorder. The reason for this, apparently, is that if you preorder it now, you'll get a new track every month leading up til the release. She calls them different "Froots", so it is unclear if this means remixes of the single or new songs.

The other way it is immediately unusual is that it already has all the tracks up and listed. Most often times when an album is put up for preorder, we only get "Track 1", "Track 2", "Current Single", "Track 4", etc. With this, she was upfront with the entire process, giving us track names (and lengths for several tracks) to keep us interested. The tracklisting is as such:

To me, it looks like she is really expanding the horizons of her music. There isn't a single song listed so far that is under four minutes, making it for an unusual pop album, most radio ready tracks being around 3:30. And if the album sounds anything like "Froot", then we are definitely in for a departure from the norm.

Marina And The Diamonds Release New Track

It's been a while, Marina. I was first introduced to this fine lady way back when a group of bloggers headed by Vertigo Shtick, and it was he who pointed out to me that she was back. Sometimes things come full circle, right? Well anyway, Marina and the Diamonds has made their return with the new track "Froot".

I have to say that this track is so very catchy. "Froot" feels to be much more lighthearted than her initial releases such as "How To Be A Heartbreaker". Sure it has it's dark tinges, it wouldn't be a Marina track without that vibe, but she's not talking about systematically destroying people's relationships and lives via sexual conquest, so I have to say this is a nice turn of direction.

Along those lines, I would have to say it's so nice to hear from her again. And I mean that literally, too. Once you have heard a track or two from this act, you'll be able to spot one of their tracks from a mile away. Whether it's Marina's deep, melodic voice, or the dark-yet-airy back track, it's easy to tell this is a Marina and the Diamonds song. If I really had to pick anything to complain about, all I could come up with is that it's five and a half minutes. Maybe it should have been shaved down to four minutes, as the end drags on when we hear the chorus for the five hundredth time.

It's unclear yet if this is a full revitalization of the project. The only iTunes action we've had recently was a remix package that landed in 2013. Just because this is up on SoundCloud doesn't mean it's her new single. She spent some time last year releasing a few songs on this medium, including a song with Charli XCX that never made it as an official single. I for one hope this one gets the video treatment and some real promotion behind it. We could really have another hit on our hands if it did.
