Dragonette Returns With Brand New Single + Video

Dragonette, in case you didn't know, is one of the best things that has come out of Canada since pretty much ever. They had been steadily pumping out music until early 2013 when things went a big quiet -- but no more! Dragonette is back, and you can have even more synth-rock in your life, because in the end, isn't that what we could all use more of?

As per usual, this song is super catchy. Much to my relief, "Let The Night Fall" goes back to the sound the band's sophomore album Fixin' To Thrill, which was my favorite. The song's heavy synths fuzed with traditional guitars makes it something you don't hear very often and solidifies them as one of the defining New Wave bands of this generation. The chorus has that ear worm quality to it, staying stuck in your head long after you're done listening to it.

The video is also a bit of a throwback for me. While it does have some Marina And The Diamonds qualities to it by being a bit quirky (see the top photo for evidence there), it really stands well on it's own. The plot has some very distinct lesbian overtones from what I gathered, which should remind many long-time fans of the video for "Pick Up The Phone" (also from the Fixin' To Thrill era). The video follows a fun day out with two close girlfriends, as they go about the randomness of daily life.

I am so excited to see this come out. The band has already confirmed this is the first single off of a new album, which will hopefully be a marriage of the two amazing sounds they've developed over the course of their last two albums. While we don't have a name or even an estimated date, given the band's history, I'm sure we won't have to wait too long to find out. These guys love their fans, and they won't keep us in the dark for long.

For now, support them by grabbing "Let The Night Fall" on iTunes.

Dragonette's New Video "Run Run Run"

I may be a little late on this one, but I do my best not to miss any news from Dragonette. They released a great album late last year, and they aren't backing down with it yet. "Run Run Run" is the latest single off of "Bodyparts" and they've released a brand new video.

This video is actually pretty interesting and unique. By that I mean it is entirely shot from the same angle, as lead singer Martina makes he way through various situations and scenes. All of the camera shots are shown straight on, only occasionally deviating from this. The journey is mostly played in reverse, showing you her night out, and how she got the various stains and messes that she is present with towards the beginning of the video.

While "Run Run Run" isn't the first song I would have liked to see made into a music video, it certainly wasn't far down the list. This is clearly one of the stronger tracks on the entire album, making it an easy seller while also showcasing a different side of the group after their staple of being an electro-pop band from the previous entries.

It still isn't clear if the "Bodyparts" era of Dragonette is coming to a close. They could very well still make other videos from this pristine album (anybody else wanna see what "Riot" would be like?). All I can say is that this video was perfectly timed to bring people back in just as the album was starting to lose attention from both the music and blogging worlds. Bravo, guys. You've won me over yet again.

Merry X-Mas From Dragonette (In Text Form)

We all know how much I love Dragonette. I can hardly shut up about them, but I never expected to see them release a Christmas song. Thankfully, it barely resembles the usual overly fake joyful "Christmas Spirit" that most other artists releasing X-Mas themed tracks is. This track may sound like it fits in with the season, but when you listen to the lyrics, you may be in for a bit of a shock.

That's right. This song is one of the first songs billed exclusively as a Christmas track to drop the F-Bomb. Leave it to Dragonette to pull this out of their asses. And you question why I love them so? The song is all about getting a generic "Merry X-Mas" text from an ex that she went through a rough break up with and having to deal with all the crappy memories it brings back. It is certainly relatable.

All in all the song makes for an amusing holiday track. It beckons on fonder years when groups like Aqua released almost parody sounding X-Mas songs, making me finally able to stomach this cursed holiday for once. I think I may actually use the response she uses in the song to everyone that wishes me a "merry X-Mas" -- "Thanks a lot; F**k you."

You can snag a copy of the song on iTunes to celebrate your holiday in style!

And today I learned that even Canadians celebrate Christmas. What a world!

Album Review - Dragonette "Bodyparts"

I think I've already said about one hundred times that I find Dragonette to be one of the best groups of all time. They have never once disappointed me since their incarnation, and I don't see them doing to any time soon. Thus, I am confident I am about to embark on one of the best albums of the year. Behold: Dragonette's newest album "Bodyparts".

Double Video Debut - Manila Luzon + Dragonette

Things have been completely cray lately in the real world (not the show, though. My life is much more batshit insane). It's about time I consolidate things and get this in order, don't you think? Well as I was in the middle of typing up a hilarious story about Dragonette's new video (which is mostly still in tact below), Manila Luzon fell from the sky and dropped her newest music video on us all.  It's gonna be a ride, folks.

Where do I even begin? This video is not exactly what I was expecting. With her first music video being flawless and the single for this video itself being very good, I was expecting to be blow away. I have to say I wasn't, sadly enough. At least not completely.

The looks were right on, and the humor was there as always. What really bothered me was the horrible obvious green screening. It looked less polished than "Hot Couture", which is the opposite direction of most indie artists who start out small and eventually scale up to more fancy videos. That being said, she looks STUNNING throughout, and tossing in her boo (and mine!) Sahara into the mix, proposing to her with a cock ring was priceless.

Next up: Dragonette with their... different music video for their amazing single "Live In This City".

What can I say? Much like Jerry Springer, we love lesbians. That's not too politically incorrect is it?

Song of the Week - Live In This City

You know what? Don't judge me. I'll stop picking Dragonette songs as Song of the Week when they stop making good music. Which will be NEVER. "Live In This City" is this week's point.

I can't get enough of this band. These Canadians have had two amazing albums so far, and all the single from the new one so far have been phenomenal. Their style is a mix of rock, pop, and electronic, not sticking to one genre for very long but always managing to stay true to themselves. I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but if you've listened to Dragonette before, you know what I mean.

This song in particular is a bit more poppy than what fans may be used to, but that doesn't mean it's not awesome. The song describes a city that the group has come to love, and can't live without. According to them, the city can't live without them, either. I know one thing is for sure, I'm not sure I could live in the pop world without Dragonette. The new album "Bodyparts" drops September 24, right with No Doubt's new album. It will be a pretty interesting battle to see who wins my heart -- I mean the charts, of course.

Buy the song on iTunes or be forever labeled a hipster!

Music News: Dragonette New Song + Album Date

Thank God this group is still going at it. They promised that they would come back into the limelight, and here they are again. Dragonette is the best thing to come out of Canada ever. Suck it, Bieber.

Though not officially, the group has already released a new single virally online, and they are at it once again with the brand spankin' new "Rocket Ship." Chock full of innuendos (or maybe I'm just perverted), this single goes back to the original feel of the group from their debut album. The song is a bit more low key and a lot less electropop than what you may be used to from them, but it still has the distinctive vocals and provoking lyrics that any fan of them would be accustomed to. Check it out for yourself.

And if that isn't enough to satisfy even the most curious, their recent mailer has announced not only the title of their third album, but also the release date!

"Dragonette are happy to announce their third album! Bodyparts will be released this September. Official release dates by territory:
US + Canada: Sept 25
Europe: Sept 24"

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

" That's a lyrical taste of another new track on Bodyparts called "Untouchable," and we're presenting a unique opportunity to you. Head over to Talenthouse to see the full lyrics of the song, and and then get your creative caps on. We invite you to use these lyrics and create your own version of the song. Add music, do it as poetry, make it a film - whatever you like - make it yours! The winning entry will be the official b-side to a future single, and we'll give you a fair piece of your version (depending on what you do) if we release it. The contest ends August 17th, so pull out your guitars, laptops, hairbrushes, microphones and get recording! You can find all details here:

http://www.talenthouse.com/create-a-song-for-dragonette "

That's right. A contest. I personally showed my share of fail during Kwanza Jones' rap contest, so I won't be entering this one, but I know I have some talented readers out there that might want to take a stab. What can it hurt -- I mean other than your dignity. Yes, I removed the rap off of Youtube. Stop trying to find it.

"Let It Go" Is Dragonette's Newest Video

A couple of weeks back, I chose Dragonette's newest single as Song of the Week because it was catchy and a breath of fresh air. Now, they have released an official music video for the track. Check out "Let It Go" the official video from Dragonette.

While the video doesn't exactly add anything to the song's meaning, it does make for an interesting trip. Martina is kidnapped off the street and subjected to several experiments and examinations. The rest of the crew are the doctors who are putting her through the wringer.

Mixed in with the somewhat disturbing segments are bits where Martina, along with a few other people, are being observed in a yellow tinted room dancing their hearts out.  I couldn't get over Martina's new mullet. I'm not sure why, but it really bothered me.  Well that, combined with the awkward petting of a bunny through a wall.

To be honest, I don't really get the video. It's amusing, and the dancing segments are great, but I'm not sure what is going on exactly. I am just glad to see that the old Dragonette is back. They had been laying low for the past couple of years, only releasing some remixes and a couple of individual, non-single tracks.

Like it? Hate it? Understand it? Comment and let me know.

Song of the Week - Let It Go

Dragonette has been making a name for itself lately. They've been touring,  featured at SxSW and had one of their songs featured in a commercial or two. It's been a while since they have released anything new, and needless to say, I was ecstatic when they announced a new single.

The first second of the song gets you instantly re-acquainted with their signature rock-synth vibe. The guitars become more obvious as the song progresses. This song picks up right where "Fixin To Thrill" left off, getting the listener up and dancing instantly.

My favorite part of Dragonette has to be the airy vocals. They sound almost unreal, but after hearing some live recordings, that is definitely her real voice. The lyrics are a bit vague in the chorus, but they are memorable enough to allow the listener to catch on quickly and sing along.

This is definitely a strong come back for the group, and it has me craving another full album. I guess it's only a matter of time. For now, you can buy the song on iTunes.

Newness from Dragonette!

FINALLY! Dragonette is an amazing group out of Canada and one of my biggest obsessions from the late 2000s. They have been all but dormant since their 2009 release "Fixin To Thrill", and when I received an email from their newsletter, I was pumped. Dragonette is back, my friends.

In honor of International Women's Day (which I forgot to make a post about! What a horrid person I can be!),  Dragonette has released a new track called "The Right Woman" for "Proud to be Woman Vol. 3," a compilation put together by Diane von Furstenberg. It has that same electronic dance-rock vibe that you are used to if you have ever heard anything by this group. In case you haven't, or if you just wanna jam to an amazing girl power track, take a listen below.

Also included in the email was a tidbit about them releasing a new single! "Let It Go" will be released soon, so they say, along with sneak peeks exclusive to those following them on Twitter (@Dragonette). Come on guys! I can't be the only one loosing my mind over this news.

One last bit of info at the bottom reads:

"In conjunction with these releases, and in the lead-up to the release of Dragonette's 3rd album (which is almost done!), Dan, Tina, and Joel are hitting the road to play a combination of new tracks and old favorites, stopping at SXSW and Coachella along the way, and popping in to the Juno Awards, where they'll perform "Hello" and see if their nomination turns into their first win! "

Support the official release of "The Right Woman" by buying it on iTunes. God, I love Canada.
