Album Review - Giulietta "911: Code Pink"

I have been waiting for this for a long time now. Giulietta has been an international musical sensation for years now, but she has definitely has risen to a whole new level. Each single she released for this album got better and better, and now the full album is an explosion of everything amazing you could think of. Giulietta's latest masterpiece is "911: Code Pink".

The journey of Code Pink started off with the three singles we have all come to know, "Pixelated", "Voodoo", and "Pretty In Pink", each of which really will give you a good idea of what you are in for as far as this album is concerned. The tone of the album is girl pop, but with a strong dash of Giulietta's unique views on life, and some tweaks that set her apart from the crowd. "Voodoo", my favorite of the three, has some unconventional pacing and lyrics, but it still works and was actually my favorite of the three.

I would talk about the select stand out songs, but it really is hard to find one that "stands out" as better because every song on the album is amazing. "Zombie" is one of my favorite songs, but mostly because it sounds hot in a car and she spells -- which is one of those things I crave when it comes to music. Simmy did an amazing job creating a very dancable beat with this track.

At various points in the album, Giulietta goes into "rap mode" and breaks it down surprisingly well. "@2AM" features some bits where she shocks everyone by flowing like a pro. The song is fun, but it wasn't one of my favorites as far as the whole project goes. This song is more of a traditional club song, whereas I tend to drift towards the unconventional.

"Unbeatable" is the one track she told me specifically to look out for. This song changes the whole tone of the album, shifting into a rock-n-roll vibe. The vocals are lower, much more like "Voodoo", but they are much more positive. I am a sucker for those pop tracks with the positive message  backing them up, and this song does that and more with it's unexpected hard guitar riff back beat. It may not be the most polished song on the entire album, but it's message and it's uniqueness set it outside of her norm and bring the album to a whole new level.

The song I was most looking forward to after my interview with this diva was "Press Rewind". The first thing I do with pop albums is skip around until I find a ballad. Ballads are where you find out quickly if the artist really has talent and emotion in their writing or if they are just hiding behind hot beats and autotune. Thankfully, this lone ballad proves that Giulietta is more than just a techno diva, and that she can sing as well as connect with her audience emotionally.

As I said at the beginning of this review, it was so hard to pick out specifics to talk about because this album was so well put together -- and rightfully so after being pushed back quite a few times. It was worth the wait in the end, and regardless of whether this is a game changer as far as pop music goes, it is a very well crafted album, and she has a nicely sized legion of fans that have been waiting for a long time for her to get to this level.

And did I mention the whole album is free? It is not only streaming on SoundCloud, but it is also available for download for free as well! Check it out for yourself. What are your favorite tracks? Did I miss something? Let me know!
