These gay rappers are what I have been craving lately. I mean I can always imagine other rappers I like (and there are a few I do like) are gay, but it's a totally different ballgame when they actually are. Last week we touched on Cazwell's newest track, and now it's time to talk about the return of Jipsta. It's been far too long.
Oh my GOD Jipsta has evolved into such a fun artist. He took his sweet time piecing together his first album, but this time around he's taken a new approach to his music. Instead of releasing the album single by single, he's taken to the studio, slowly crafting together a new album for us, and this is our first true taste of what is to come. To be honest, the remix released on SoundCloud is more of a preview than an official release, but the song is so addicting, I had to post about it.
"Abracadabra" is the name, and it features talented singer Joe Thompson. Jipsta takes care of the verses, talking about him rocking a club. It sounds a big generic, but with the way Jipsta pounds the raps onto the beat, he could be singing about sitting on the toilet and I'd still find it awesome. Joe shines on the chorus, giving us metaphors only a DJ could spin our way.
In a way, this feels much more mainstream than what we've had from him in the past. This mix at least sounds much more pop-centric than his last album that was settled firmly in house and circuit party styles. I really love this shift, as it fits more firmly into the music I listen to on a regular basis. I don't know if this will dethrone "I'll Take Your Man" for me, but it comes close.
I will update as soon as I get more info on the album's title, release date, and track listing. As of this time, previous single "Moomba Zoomba" has not been confirmed as a track.
You can check out "Abracadabra" for free on SoundCloud. For some reason it won't let me embed this one. Sorry guys!

2012's Biggest Misses: Jipsta On Ranny's Debut EP
Man I am a horrible friend. Jipsta, a constant supporter of mine and good friend, has released another new song. Usually I'm on top of his new music, but this one slipped right past my radar. Again, I've missed something everyone expected me to talk about. Please allow me to rectify this situation by talking to you about Ranny having Jipsta's new track on his debut EP. Lemme talk about "Moombah Zoombah".
All biased aside, I have to say that Jipsta has come a long way over the past two years. His debut album was a long journey, and at times it really did show. This song, along with the other single that was by both Ranny and Jipsta "Lover Who Rocks You" both sound astronomically more polished and on point. Not to say I didn't love his debut!
The song, as the name suggest, sounds a bit more tribal and raw than what is heard on the radio. As always, Ranny has produced an addictive beat for Jipsta to flow to. Speaking of which, JP's raps on this track not only run smoothly and sound just as good, if not better, than rap you would hear on the radio these days.
Ok maybe I'm biased just a little, but he is good!
The rest of Ranny's debut EP, "Party Crasher" has a lot of familiar faces. Not only does it have Jipsta's other newest single featuring Reina, it also has the song he released a while back with Drag Race star Jessica Wild, "You Like It Wild" and the track with Drag Race Allstar Nina Flowers "Loca -- both of which were pretty big hits considering the names they were paired off with.
You can buy "Moomba Zoomba", as well as the full "Party Crasher" EP on iTunes. Give it a listen.

Jipsta Releases Video For "Too New York"
It doesn't get much more awesome than being an openly gay rapper. Jipsta is probably sick of hearing that, but it's really fun to say when telling people who he is. Truth is, he's more than that -- at least more awesome than that. Jipsta is an artist, a wordsmith, and a friend. Check out his new hilarious video for "Too New York".
This song has been around a while, so when he told me he was doing a video for it, I was pretty surprised. He has been working on a lot of new material, so a video for a song that has been out a year and a half seemed like an odd thing to do, but then again, Jipsta has never been too conventional. This song is actually my favorite from the whole album (which I told him to make a single. Glad he listened all this time later.), as it has a lot of flavor and personality to it.
The video itself is a sort of eclectic collection of things anybody who really knows New York would see. No tourist spots here, only the streets, sights, and people that the every-day New Yorker would see. The video is a bit of a step up quality wise from "U Got", looking much sleeker and professional grade. This time around he's spared no expense, including a few custom made street/metro signs, adding that distinct "Jipsta" flavor to the mix.
Though it may be a little late, the video is still welcome in my book. Hell, any Jipsta related material is welcome. Now, where do I go to complain about that new song not being out yet?

Song of the Week - Lover Who Rocks You
Prepare for a ton of name dropping. This song is by my buddy Jipsta, who teamed up with amazing mix master John Rizzo and crazy talented singer Reina. Not only that, but Jipsta has employed some of the top remix artists such as DJ Ranny, Jared Jones, Manny Lehman, and more. Impressed yet? You should be.
The king of gay circuit club rap has returned! About time, too. He has been teasing us all with this song for months and months. The original edit of the song is a true circuit track made to get you dancing out on the floor and singing along. Believe me, the lyrics will get stuck in your head. Reina sounds great on the song, and I really wish she was present in the song more.
Along with the original edit are a huge list of remixes. All of them shine in their own ways, but anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge lover of dance music, so the Jared Jones mix wins hands down. The best part has to be the over the top electro-stutter by Reina at the end of the track.
And as a disclaimer, yes, Jipsta is an awesome guy and I do consider him a friend, but I was a fan of his music before I ever spoke with him. So no bitching at me, OK?
Buy the track and support the artists!

Exclusive Interview - Jipsta
There are so very few white rappers out there today. I can only name two right off of the top of my head. You know what there are even fewer of? Gay white rappers. It can be hard+ to pull off. I met someone recently who was able to pull it off -- and do so very well. Jipsta has defied the odds and done what only few can. And I got to interview him!

Video Review - U Got (What I Need)
Oh God. It's finally time. Jipsta has released his video he's been torturing us with for weeks. The song, "U Got (What I Need)" wasn't my first pick for a single off of the album, but then again, "Best Friend" probably wouldn't have made as good of a video... or maybe Robbie Russell was just to hot for television making a "Perfect Match" video impossible? Moving on.
The video is set up to parody audition rooms in shows like American Idol and America's Got Talent, showcasing some of the worst dance moves and "sexy outfits" you could find. Ever. We get a couple of bears (the gay scene kind, not the picnic basket stealing ones), a hobo or two, and a nudist. Before you wonder why I'd want to watch this hot mess, let me give you four reasons. The sexy Sahara Davenport, the spicy Jessica Wild, the always adorable Jipsta, and my all time favorite drag queen/person on the planet: Pandora Boxx. Yeah. You knew there had to be a catch, right?
Joking aside, I've said time and time again that I sincerely do like Jipsta and his music. The fact that he is friends with some of my favorite celebrities makes me like him a bit more, of course. Saraha, Pandora, and Jipsta spend the majority of the video judging these future contestants (for what, it is unclear). Instead of a numeral score, they write down suggestions, or more often hilarious comments, based on who they are viewing. It seems Pandora is just focused on where that bump is. Try checking a little lower, darling.
Jessica Wild's part of the video is a bit more simple, as she just lip syncs to the chorus, but she does so looking pretty fab. I wonder if she couldn't make it to the shoot with the other girls, or what, but I really would have liked to see her party with Sahara and Pandora. It'd be like a good ole' Drag Race 2 reunion. Well the good ones, anyway... Don't send me hate mail.
When it cuts back to the judges, they finally have found some talent... or at least more attractive people, and deside to abandon their posts to party with the future contestants. Jipsta cops a feel (or two). Sahara gets manhandled by a stud. Pandora... gets drunk and passes out? Oh you. Always hilarious.
The video is hilarious and exactly what any fan of Jipsta would expect. I think what makes the video so great is that you can tell these people are actually friends and actually having a good time shooting the video and being around each other in general. The production values aren't the best, but the vibe is perfect. Maybe I am biased because the video brings together two of my favorite queens, and has brought another back into the spotlight. It might also be because I have a boycrush on Jipsta, but don't tell him that.
In the end, I have to wonder if Pandora ever found the bump...
You can watch the video for yourself and leave Jipsta all kinds of pretty little comments here.

Jipsta, Ru, And Sahara Too
Ok, so the rhyming was kind of lame and cliche, but it's my blog and if I want to look stupid, I will. Don't judge me.
The point of this blog entry is to bring up that RuPaul, the queen of all queens, has released a remix EP as an extension of her latest album "Glamazon". Usually I don't give a crap about remixes (unless they are done by notable DJ's/Groups or are hilarious like the Goldfrapp remix for Judas), but this one is special. Why, you ask? How could any old remix catch my attention? Well the opening track, and most "sick'ning" of them all, features the always funny and rather adorable Jipsta. Enter: Sexy Drag Queen.
Jipsta is a character. His solo music is hysterical. I reviewed his album "Bandoozle" last month and I've been bothering him via Twitter ever since. He is buddy-buddy with all my favorite drag queens, making me jealous all the time by talking about hanging out with Pandora Boxx and Sahara Davenport! Yes, the world revolves around me, obviously. All joking aside, I am a big fan of both Jipsta and RuPaul, and this song doesn't disappoint.
The song is pure dancey fun, and it doesn't really sound like a remix. Ru's voice is very autotuned, but as I've said time and time again, I don't place a lot of value on singing well. It sounds horrible, but thats how it is. You can have an amazing singing voice, but if you are boring, I, as well as the majority of the country, won't give a damn. Ru knows how to have fun and how to work with what she's got.
Jipsta's verse is a plea for us to all party with him. Amen, brotha. He is kind of like that announcer at all those sporting events I don't go to but see in movies -- or a beauty pageant emcee. Announcing that you better bow down to the queen as she makes her way through.
Speaking of queens, Ms. Davenport continues to taunt me with her upcoming single. She has released a snippet of the studio version of "Go Off" on youtube and has been hammering it on her twitter... and I finally caved in and listened to it. My initial plan was to ignore it until it came out so it could be this amazing surprise, but I just couldn't resist any more. The song is HOT! Give it a listen for yourself.
I really hope this girl puts out a full album. I hate seeing the trend of endless singles being released. So many people either loose interest or loose funding and never get to release an album. I have a lot of faith in Sahara, though. She knows how to make a good track, as proven with "Pump With Me". Maybe we could even see a collaboration with Manila in the future?
Check out my review of "Bandoozle" here. You can buy "SuperGlam DQ" and the "Sexy Drag Queen" Remix feat. Jipsta here. And if you haven't yet, get Sahara Davenport's first single "Pump With Me" here.
Also: I'd like to give a big thank you to Jared Jones! He was a good sport in that I forgot to credit him. It was a huge oversight and kind of embarrassing. He's got three mixes on "SuperGlam DQ" so you'd best check them out!

Album Review - Bandoozle
This review has been a long time coming. A few weeks back I promised Jipsta I'd give his album a review here, and being the massive procrastinator that I am, I kept finding other things to do... like shop... and watch Bones -- Anyway, this review is a bit different from my others. The majority of the time I do my review on my first or second listening of the album, but here, I've been jamming to this gem for weeks. Also, a fair warning: I think Jipsta is pretty friggen' awesome, so don't expect this to be 100% unbiased.
