I am really bad at promoting this, aren't I? Well every month, buddy Vertigo Shtick has enslaved myself and a handful of other notable bloggers from the pop-reviewers world to review whatever he wants. Ok, so it's not as bad as it really sounds. Sometimes it can be fun, and often times I find out about artists I may never have seen otherwise. It's worth checking out.
This month we covered Nicki Minaj, Elle Varner, Alanis Morissette, Neon Hitch, Mariah Carey and more. Hop on over to Vertigo Shtick's blog to see the full article featuring The Pop Messiah, Popledge, Lost in a Melody, Techno School, and Unapologetically POP!

Nicki Minaj Lands Starships Video
Oh, Nicki Minaj. How I love your random bursts of insanity. Half the time, she puts out rap stuff that I couldn't care less about. The other half of the time, she makes such horrible yet amazing pure pop music that I can't resist. That is basically "Starships" in a nutshell.
I think we can all agree that the song makes no sense at all. The lyrics seem to be picked out of a hat at random even more so than most of Dev's tracks. She goes from riding in her "hoopty-hoopty-hoop", to talking about not paying her rent, to flying starships. Yeah. I have no idea either. The video... well it's pretty much the same thing.
Let me start by saying this video is full of eye candy no matter what you like. You like beefy black dudes in loincloths? You got it. You like busty and curvy green haired women. You sure as hell got it. You like... Wait that is it? Oh, well I'm still satisfied. Nicki lands her spaceship on an island of barely clothed sexy ripped dudes and walks around. That is about all there is to the video.
I can't really explain why, but the song just kind of works. I dont know if I have just come to expect random insanity from her, or if the video really does have a purpose, but I like it nontheless. Actually, now that I think about it, it was probably the loincloths.

Song of the Week - Give Me All Your Luvin'
She's back. No, not back as in that oversexed, too-mainstream, and too eager to please person she was replaced with for a few years (Four Minutes - Horrible.). The REAL Madonna is back! And God, did we miss her. I know Song of the Week usually goes to lesser known people, but how can I pass this up? Seriously.
Madonna is finally back to her old sound. Those haunting vocals, those true 80s synth beats. They are all here. The only way you would know this song wasn't truly from the 80s is when it breaks into Nicki Minaj's rap, because let's face it, nobody sounds like that woman.
This song has actually come under some critizism by other reviewers claiming that while catchy, it is a bit too simple lyrically to be Madonna's huge return. I disagree. Most of Madonna's singles weren't the deepest meaning. She had a song all about posing. I mean come on. This song is the embodiment of the Madonna we've missed. As for the spellings (and misspellings), have I ever mentioned I have an affinity for songs that spell? I think I have.
Also MIA is in the song.
You can buy the track on iTunes. It may have been a glitch, but when I pre-orderd her new album "MDNA" it made me re-buy the single I had already payed for just to secure my pre-order. Thus, it may be best to just pre-order the full album if you plan to in the future.

Nicki Minaj and The Video of the Year
No, I'm not trolling you. I really do like this video. It may be causing everybody everywhere to rage their faces off, but I really did find it to be a work of art. Behold Nicki Minaj doing her best Lady Gaga and Shakira impressions!
The song is terrible. The video is genius.

Video of the Week - Super Bass (Plus Bonus)
Sorry it took so long to post this, and due to my awkward blog posting mechanics it will probably say this was posted on Wednesday, but LET IT BE KNOWN that it is indeed Tuesday which still makes it video day... which will be moved to Sunday next week due to the newest installment: Drag U Tuesdays. Anyway, on to the video!
Yeah. I know. It's my guilty pleasure. This song is one of those earworm songs that just won't die. It was a strong candidate for song of the week, but when I saw the video I knew it belonged here. I can't help but think of her as Neapolitan Icecream in this video. I mean she's got vanilla and strawberry hair and she's the chocolate, right? Is that racist? Nah. Towards the end it starts to get a distinct Colette Carr vibe to it with the black light lipstick and whatnot. I kinda wanna make my own video with Nicki grinding to "Back It Up"?
Just to make sure you guys know Im suuuper super sorry for almost forgetting the Video of the Week, I leave you with this gem that I discovered via Pandora Boxx's twitter:
Edit: Blog totally says it was posted Tuesday. I'm awesome.
