Sorry I Missed It: Cherri Bomb Is Now Hey Violet

Remember how much I loved the all girl punk group Cherri Bomb? They were amazing, and their debut album was one of the best first attempts from a new group I had ever heard. Well they kind of disappeared. Well, I thought they did. Turns out they've been around all along, but with a new name. It's about time I caught up with the new incarnation of Cherri Bomb called Hey Violet.

I know, I know. It's a bit of a change from what you heard on their debut album as Cherri Bomb, but the name seems to be symbolic of the change. A few years back, one of the founding members, Julia, made a departure from the band. She was replaced with a guy named Casey who had been good friends with most of the band since they were kids, making him a perfect fit. While I am a huge fan of all girl rock groups (see my obsession with The Runaways), Casey seems to be meshing great with the band, so I don't have too many complaints.

As for the sound change, I'm not as excited. They've gone from pure punk to a fusion of punk and pop. It works, but it's not what I'm used to hearing from them. I guess if I had heard this incarnation first, I would be completely in love. There is nothing wrong with it, but since I heard "Cherri Bomb" first, it kind of put me off a little. Objectively, they are still very talented young adults who know how to rock it out, and the (albeit slight) genre change won't deter me from enjoying them.

As of right now they have one EP out, and a full album on the way. They also have an array of fun videos on Youtube allowing their fans to get to know them either all over again or for the first time. It looks like these guys are destined to be stars, and even with the reset of a name change, they aren't backing down. Just check out their awesome cover of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" and tell me that they aren't the raddest group you've listened to.

Cherri Bomb Announce Debut Album

I love Cherri Bomb. I just do. I know that I mostly talk about pop music here, but there is just something about rocker chicks that is irresistible... Even to a gay man. I have been loving them ever since their first independent music video for Spin hit the net -- and they keep getting better.




Yeah. It is only seventeen seconds long. BUT THAT ISNT THE POINT! The point is that they finally have announced a full album, and I am going to obsess over it. The video itself looks to be a short clip of their upcoming video for the lead single that shares it's name with the album title. In some kind of post plane crash, the only survivors are the four girls and they are gonna rock out regardless of their situation.

The girls have been doing a lot of touring lately, so this came as a complete surprise to me. I guess they had been sitting on top of this album for a while and are deciding to release it at the height of their new found success? Who can tell for sure but their production team. Anyway, we will have to find out just exactly what songs made the cut on May 15th when "This Is The End Of Control" releases worldwide.

Cherri Bomb Releases Full Stark EP

It's finally here! The girls that can only be described as The Runaways of the new generation have released the full version of their EP entitled "Stark"! All girl rock band Cherri Bomb have been a bit of an obsession of mine for a while now, and I am so glad I can finally buy their music and remind them that they have fans right here at home in the US!

This is an extension of the free EP of the same name they were distributing on their web site a few months back. This release contains the same three songs (Mirror Mirror, Spin, and Already Dead) as well as two new(ish) songs The Pretender and Let It Go. I say "new(ish)" because they have streamed a demo version of The Pretender on their site before, but this version sounds quite different. This time around it sounds much more polished and worked on. The other new song, Let It Go, is not exactly my favorite track on the release, but it's a good addition to the total feel and message they were going for.

I've been a fan of these girls for quite a while now. They have so much talent and potential to become really great. They have been on tour in Europe for a while now, and I really hope that they keep their American fans in mind for a tour here soon. What I wouldn't give for some merch or a physical CD from them!

Trust me, these girls are amazing. Their EP is only four dollars on iTunes. Buy it! BUY IT NOW! You won't regret it. If you do, somehow, regret it then we aren't friends.

Album Review - Stark EP

Allow me to introduce to you something that may just change your view on rock music. Picture this: An all girl rock band singing their hearts out, not a single one of them over the age of eighteen. They dye their hair, rock out harder than the boys, and change the rules of rock-n-roll. No, I'm not talking about the Runaways (as much as I'd like to), I am talking about the new rock group Cherri Bomb.

Video(s) of the Week - Primo + Spin

In case you haven't noticed, the day of the Video of the Week has changed to Tuesdays instead of Sundays. This week was really tough though. I was fully positive what the video of the week was going to be up until two hours ago when another amazing video was posted on Twitter.

First up: Primo by Colette Carr





Primo has been the most played song on my iPhone since it was released May 10. Colette had been hyping up the video on Twitter, Facebook, and even the Cherrytree chat. This girl knows how to survive in a viral market. The video was definitely not a letdown.

The video feels like pure summer. From hopscotch to driving around jammin' out like a dork, this video has everything a perfect summer should. The video makes an interesting use of green screens, as instead of being the main set, she walks in front of them momentarily as she walks down the street. The green screens even continue to display her adventures in driving and sidewalk chalk (land?) as she continues walking. Towards the end she even dawns the fabulous middle-eastern inspired wear she dons on the cover of the single -- much to my joy. The video is spectacular.

Now this video is quite different from Primo. This is actually the second video created for their song, but the first done on an official record label. The video is vastly improved over its predecessor and the girls look fantastic. I really think they have the drive to make it and if they do, the could be the new age Runaways. As you probably don't know I am a giant fan of the Runaways, so for me to go as far as to say that, they must have some potential. But now, don't go thinking dirty thoughts about them either... They are only fifteen.
