Chelsea Korka Returns As C.G.K. With Debut Single "First Kiss"

It has been oh-so-long since I've heard anything from my most favorite Not Pussycatdoll. She's been working hard in the studio on her debut album, and has finally allowed for us to hear the first fruit of her labors. Check out "First Kiss" by the lovely and recently re-branded C.G.K.

Chelsea Korka is a beautiful and talented woman. She has been working on her debut album Being Human for as long as I can remember. She even gave us a fun clip of one of the tracks from the album titled "Romeo", but this track "First Kiss" is incredibly different from what we've heard in the past. Gone is her more mainstream sound, and now we have this -- of which I'm not even sure what we have.

We barely get to hear Chelsea sing in this one, and with a run time of only 2:20, it comes up feeling a bit short. It honestly sounds more like an intro to an album instead of a full fledged single. It contains an interesting mix of R&B sounds and electronic/dubstep. It's a strange mashup that somehow works for her. It also has a very odd sounding modified trumpet, honestly being the weirdest track I've heard to come out from this year.

The only indication of this being related to the previously announced album Being Human are a couple of hashtags, leaving one to wonder what the rest of this project will shape up to be. For now, you can grab the single on iTunes.

Chelsea Korka Teases Debut Album "Being Human"

I can't even put to words how excited I am for this. Chelsea Korka has been one of those artists I've been watching for years, waiting (basically begging) for new music. Trust me, her EP and one single she has released over the past four years are not enough for this blogger. Luckily, I came across a post from her that if you'd blink, you'd have a substantial chance of missing it. It was the first promo for her new album, Being Human.

Chelsea Korka. Where do I begin? She is one of those artists that seems to have their careers stolen from them at every turn. She started out on The CW's reality show The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll 2007, where she was a finalist to join the band. After missing out on that opportunity, she was approached to join a new international girl group, Paradiso Girls. The band, which was a collection of girls from diverse nationalities, went to release two amazing singles, but selling girl groups in the United States is a hard bargain, and the group was canned. Their fully recorded album was permanently shelved.

Since then, Korka has been making a go on her own. She has done extensive touring and released a solo EP back in the early 2012 and more recently released a single called "Save Me". Unfortunately all of this has been taken down from iTunes. On the bright side we have confirmed that she does have the intention to release new material soon. Most notably, it seems that having her songs taken off of iTunes is part of a re-branding strategy. Instead of going by Chelsea Korka, here she is going by CGK, the "G" presumably being her middle name. Whether or not that is the case is unclear, but the words "Debut Album" and "Being Human" are definitely there, giving this blogger hope for the future.

We do not have a release date yet, nor an indication as to whether stand alone single "Save Me" will be a part of this album. All we know is that she has felt solidified enough in the release to make the announcement, and that we get a very, very short clip of a new track called "Romeo".

Chelsea Korka Is Back!

Oh my god. I can't believe I missed this last month. I am the world's worst fan ever. Chelsea Korka is an amazingly talented singer that was once part of one of the greatest unknown girl groups of all time. Now she's solo, and it's been a good while since she's released anything solid. Thankfully we have "Save Me" to, well, save us.

First off this cover is gorgeous. I was hoping that it might be a music video tie-in, but it's not looking overly likely due to the gap between it's original release and today's date. Fortunately, we did get a lyric video with a bit of footage shoehorned in, so it's almost like having a music video. Her last EP deserved a video or two, but nothing came of it. Hopefully things will start to change for her.

This single fits right in with her sound. She doesn't seem to be budging from her pop/r&b mix that she's developed. What I really like about the song is it's constant tempo changes. One moment it will be slower and mild, and when the chorus kicks in fully, it speeds up and gets much more upbeat. About half way through the song we get that distinct C. Korka roar as she picks up the vocals to another level. That is exactly why I love her.

Story wise, it's pretty simple. The track is about being far too enthralled with a boy and needing to be rescued. I believe it's about being in a bad relationship, and having another guy come along to pull you out of the madness and return you to normalcy. It may not be the best message to send, but it is a viable option for some. Honestly I could care less what the track is actually about, as long as I get to hear her amazing voice.

Album Review - The E.P.

My love for Chelsea Korka knows no bounds. From reality TV, to the Paradiso Girls, to her new solo career, I have had my eye on this lady, and I'm so glad that she has finally released her own music. And what's even better is it's very good. She teased us for over a week with these songs, but it was totally worth it. Allow me to delve into "The E.P." by Chelsea Korka.

Top Five Pop Divas I Would (Probably) Go Straight For (Maybe)

The time has come again for yet another pointless top five list from your favorite blogger. In case you haven't gathered this yet, I am gay as hell. I can hit on male artists all day long, but it's rare that I hit on the ladies. I feel I am comfortable enough in my sexuality to make a list of the top five hotties of pop. Plus, it's way more interesting than a top five hot guys of pop (it would be five entries of Space Cowboy).

5. Nadia Oh

Speaking of Spacey, anyone notice how hot his protege is? I have been a fan of Nadia since she started releasing music. I remember the insane rumors about her being a computer generated image (and looking back at some of the early press shots of her, I don't blame people) but lately, she has proved them all wrong by releasing a video for almost every song she's ever recorded ever. Joking aside, I really do think this lady is very attractive, and her Miss Kittin-esque music only helps further her as a standout in my mind. Keep werkin it, sexy bitch.

Chelsea Korka To Release Solo Album

After finding some old Paradiso Girls tracks, as well as a couple of rare demos from her, I tweeted Chelsea asking when we could hear more. Her reply was a simple "not long" -- and damn was she not lying. Last night, Chelsea revealed her big announcement via Twitter: She is going to be releasing a solo album. There is a god.

 

I cannot express how excited I am about this. I have loved Chelsea ever since I first laid eyes on her in the Search For The Next Pussycat Doll (This is the first time I've admitted to watching the show), and she was, to me, the most talented of the Paradiso Girls. As devastated as I am that the group is over, I am glad to see her moving forward with her career -- and if she follows through with tracks like the "So Over" demo I heard, this album will be amazing!

No title has been announced, but she has put up a teaser site, IAmChelseaKorka.com, with a countdown to January 3, when the album will drop. Releasing an album cold can be a scary thing, but she promised that there will be music out before the album drops. I really hope so! I hope she kept in touch with Space Cowboy and had him help out. I mean don't you remember "Falling Down"? Smash.

With Lauren heading up the new Pussycat Dolls and Chelsea working solo, we have accounted for 2/5 of the Paradiso Girls. Now where did Aria get off to?
