RuPaul's Drag Race Recap - RuPaullywood Or Bust

So the time has come yet again. Another season of Drag Race is here, and I have mixed emotions. Prior to watching the episode, I hadn't had high hopes for it, for obvious reasons, but after seeing it (as well as how my top and bottom predictions performed) I have to say that it may be a bit better than I had expected. Well, let's not waste any time, shall we?

First thing I see if Aubrey O'Day in the singing challenge episode. Oh god. I'm so ready for this!

Detox is first to enter the work room. Go figure. She has some fabu hair and hat going on. I actually really like her look.
Roxxxy is next. She looks a little overdone, but she is suuuuuch a cute boy. That's the kind of homo I'd want. No joke.
Jade pornstar Jolie is next. She looks pretty bad as both a queen and a boy, so I have no idea how that fiasco happened. I think it has something to do with her mouth. I have no clue.
Serena Chacha walks in looking like the latina version of Tatiana. I'm not sure if I'm gonna be feeling her, but we will see.
Alyssa Edwards looks pretty busted. I'm not feeling her ensemble at all, nor her "I had my title taken from me" story. Next!
Jinkx's intro was a bit underplayed due to everyone gagging over Alyssa, but she does look quite put together, and as she's known for camp, I'm pumped to see what she will bring to the competition.
Penny Tration is not who I voted for online. That is all I'm going to say.
Vivienne Pinay is another cute boy! Yes this season is looking up now. She was my top pick based on the interviews, and I'm loving her pinup look. I hope she doesn't get compared to Jujubee too much.
Alaska walks in. Ugh. Hopefully she won't last long.
HONEY IS IN THE BUILDING! She's so fabu.
Ivy is cute as a boy toooooo! I love her campness, even if it does come off a little Willam-y on occasion. She is one of the most polished looking camp queens on this show so far.
Monica Beverly Hillz is just... bad.
Lineysha Sparx is so Fierce! And Cute toooooo! Can we get more out-of-drag shots now? Ms. Sparx is my favorite Latin queen on the show thus far.
Coco Montrese is here, too, who walks in Shangela style at the end. Of course they picked her to be on the same season as Alyssa. Wanna know why? Stay tuned.

The best part of the entire intro segment was Alyssa. Although I didn't care much for her, or her drama, they kept cutting back to her over and over, showing some of the most hilarious reaction shots I've ever seen. There needs to be a Tumblr dedicated exclusively to .gifs of this queen and her many, many hilarious reactions to things being said. I guess that's a plus one for her in my book.

How do you even begin to describe this?

After some dumb drama, they get their first She-Mail. Ru sometimes overdoes it, and the orgasm earthquake was just too much for me. I hope things get toned down a little later on.  The grand prize this year is the same as last year, set at 100,000, which was kind of sad to see that the stakes weren't amped up this year. I guess that is a large chunk of cash to be handing out.

The first challenge this year, as always, is a photoshoot, and like always Mike Ruiz is of course here to shoot the photos. Oh and it's set underwater. This is going to be a entertaining. Most of them looked like a hot mess (Jade and Serena being the biggest), But others like Detox and Vivianne did great! Jinkx had the hardest time of them all. To prove all the haters wrong, Alaska did incredibly poor here. I may not be rooting for her to lose or anything, but giving up after only trying once when not only 100,000 dollars is on the line, but your credibility as anything more than "Sharon's Boyfriend" too, you should probably try a little harder.

The workroom was a hot mess, and all I could do was focus on how cute Roxxxy is. I did get a pretty good chuckle out of Jinkx falling asleep in interviews. Ru announces that Detox wins, which is a surprise to everyone because Lineysha was definitely the best. And then he quickly follows it up by saying they would get to go on a shopping spree, but of course there will be a twist.

The budget for this season is even more redic than last year. They have an entire RuPaul tourbus. The montage of them traveling was out of hand, and the green screened future guests was kind of sad. The new Ru track is pretty fun, though.

I just lost my shit. Cammille Grammar is on RuPaul's Drag Race. Oh my god. I LOVE REAL HOUSEWIVES! I wish she'd be on longer, but alas, it isn't about Real Housewives, it's about drag queens diggin for trash. The challenge is pretty straightforward -- Pick up things out of dumpsters in one minute to make a red carpet outfit. Remind you of last year? Me, too. Seeing Detox climb up on top of a dumpster made my day!

Talk about werkin' for those coins!

Alaska is naked. Who cares? So over it. I'm more interested in Jade's Power Rangers shirt. And just like that Coco-Alyssa drama starts up. It's thirty minutes in and I'm already sick of it.

`Ru's first workroom walkthrough is hilarious as always. I just wish they could quit cutting to Jade and her snide remarks. It's like every time anyone say anything, Jade has a bitch remark to say about it.

Judging by the focus they put on my now favorite girl Roxxxy, it looks like she may be staying on for a while, which makes me happy. Ru points out that it looks like Alaska is being lazy and relying on her -ahem- past.

Runway time! Michelle Visage and my man Santino are back! Of Cours Mike Ruiz is here for the first challenge, and sexy housewife from Beverly Hills Camille Grammar is in town!

Roxxxy may be a cute boy, but as a queen she is even more fabulous! The dress was cute, but had a lot going on, but it all seemed to just work somehow.
Jinkx looked hilarious! Not bad hilarious. Pretty hilarious. I love her quirky look.
Detox says she is serving Jem and the Holograms,b ut I saw Elvira, Im starting to really like her!
Ivy didn't look as good as I'd imagined. Her hair was wrong and her dress was generic. I was overall bleh towards this one.
Honey looks FLAWLESS! Serving me some Egyptian goddess realness!

You will now look up "Honey" by The Hush Sound. Fitting?

Jade had an awful dress. She did start to turn me around on my opinion on her after her runway bit. The voice can get annoying, but she does make a cute "in drag character". Maybe she will grow on me?
Alyssa was another one that fell into the middle somewhere. Her dress just had too much going on!
Penny came out looking better than I had imagined. This isn't exactly a compliment because you can't see what I'd imagined in my head.
Coco was another one who missed the point of the challenge. It was not to see who could have the most outrageous dress (which she would have won with those Madonna boobs), but who has the most couture dress. Ugh.
Vivienne looked gorgous. The most fish look on the runway. I know I said I wouldn't but Damn she is serving Juju.
Alaska was wearing a trash bag.
Lineysha had the best dress of them all. It would actually fit in at a red carpet event. I loved the show head piece, and she looked amazing. Nice Vanderpump reference, Ru!
Monica looked like a hooker.
Serena was giving me way more camp than I thought she would. The dress may not be amazing, but it's something nobody has really done before -- a dress sculped onto her body.

Now that the text wall is over, we finally get to find out who the tops and bottoms are -- as if we didn't already know these bitches were all bottoms. After the safe people are announced, two of my favorites and two of my least favorites are left. Here's to hoping I'm not delusional and other people see what I see, too.

After the deliberation, the girls return to the stage. We find out that Roxxxy won the first challenge! She is officially my favorite! She gets immunity, which means at least three epissodes of the cutie. I do think Lineysha was jipped. Serena and fan-picked Penny. As much as I like Serena and her peppy attitude, I don't think she has what it takes to win.

Thankfully for me, Serena gets to stay. I hope she steps it up and beats out more of these bitches. Unfortunately this seasons only real big girl is sent home first.

All in all, I think this season may be a bit better than I was expecting it to be. Some of my comments may seem harsh, and some of the girls really grew on me over the course of this episode. I went in unable to stand even looking at Jade, but she's grown on me a little, and of course you have probably noticed that my focus has shifted to Roxxxy. Looks like this year will be the Roxxxy show instead of the Willam show. Cheers and I look forward to a great new season!

  1. I agree. I loved Roxxxy's dress but Lineysha's was better. I'm over Serena. She's way too immature. My top three I think is Roxxxy, Vivienne and Alyssa. Alyssa grew on me and Jade was in top three, but she's kind off putting. Alyssa can be at times, but those reactions shots are golden.

    1. I love Roxxxy and I'm glad she won so I'll have a guaranteed two more episodes with her, but still, that challenge was all Lineysha. My top three as of now are Vivienne, Lineysha, and Honey. Roxxxy is a close fourth.

As for Jade, I like her style, but her personality is obnoxious and her ego rivals my own. Not cute.

  2. Thanx for the rucap Gao ! :) ... However, I just had to comment on something I noticed about one of your above 'quips' -> i.e. "as if we didn't already know these bitches were all bottoms"). - Whilst I certainly think said comment worked humorously within context, & even agree it's exactly what most equally immediately assume to be the truth about 'queens'. (And yes, of course many of them indeed are !) - Still, I thought I needed to come clarify that u might be surprised to find that in actuality the opposite of this assumption is more often closer to the truth. ... Being well intimate with the 'draguniverse' & having known masses of drag queens down the decades. Believe me, the vast majority of all the drag queens I've known (& known about) have surprisingly leaned far more 'top' than 'bottom'.
Of course I'm generalising, & of course there's all 'types' in that world, as in 'ours' (with 'versatile' probably ruling). But I'll assure u that in my experience it were actually the queen's 'manlier' partners that were far more often the true avid 'bottoms' in the equation. :)
    - Sorry, I just needed to come shatter that all-too-often erroneous assumption.

    1. This phrase you have yourself worked up over is actually a joke referencing the Untucked season for All Stars. They played a "Top or Bottom" game in the lounge, in which almost everyone (sans Shannel) said they were bottoms. I meant no harm by it. It's a show about drag queens, and when they are concerned, nothing should be taken too seriously. Hope that demystifies some of the confusion. Thanks for reading and thank you for voicing your concerns. :)
