RuPaul's All Stars Drag Race Recap - It Takes Two

The queens are back! Some for better, and some for worse, but they are back, baby! I really like the way they went about All Stars for this show, in that not all of the contestants are the top placers in their seasons. Instead, they picked those that have made an impact since they left the show including some low placing contestants such as Mimi Imfurst and Tammie Brown. Enough rambling, though, it's time for the race to begin!

[Note: As All Stars is a mini-season, I won't be devoting a lot of time or energy to this show. Very few screen caps and extras thrown in this go around. Gotta save my energy for Season Five! I'll try to keep up the laughs.]

So the queens prance on in one by one, reading each other up and down. Of course everyone was pissed to see Mimi, and everybody had the most caddy things to say to each other -- go figure Anyway, Ru creeps out all of America by laughing, stopping, then laughing again for an awkwardly long amount of time during the She-Mail, and they, once again, re-use the box gag. This time it's no Shangela inside, but an even worse twist -- They have to work in teams. At least they get 100,000 dollars. That's a lot of chicken nuggets, hunty.

Instead of a long forgotten queen in the box, they find pictures of themselves. The catch is that they can pick their partner, so long as the other person picks them, too. Drama is sure to ensue with this kind of set up, and also seems a bit designed to screw people over. The teams are as follows:

Raven and Juju
Tammie and Nina
Chad and Shannel
Yara and Alexis
Manila and Latrice
and (much to her dismay) Pandora and Mimi

Mimi immediately notices Pandora is not happy about the selections, and begins to question her true feelings on the situation. I love Mimi to death, but, God bless her, she just doesn't come off well with the editing of these shows. I really hope that the rest of the episode doesn't look bad on her.

The first challenge is a photoshoot, pretty much like every other season of the show. This time they have to do "Half Baked" where they are mid transformation and a seperate photo with wet-n-wild as the theme. Oh and of course they have to do each other's makeup. Everything has to be high-fashion, as Ru reminds them time and time again that they aren't quite on the right track.

I really hate that Pandora and Mimi are my favorites yet they keep at each others' throats the whole time. Pandora was a bit of a bitch throughout the entire episode, treating Mimi poorly, but seeing as Pandora is in Mimi's new music video, I'd say that things have probably blown over since then.

The opposite's attract photoshoots were all a hot mess. For some reason they had to pose in black rain. The most entertaining was Shannel and Chad, as they had been friends for years and have great chemistry. Thankfully, the Pandora Vs Mimi part was downplayed in the photoshoot. Chad sensed the awkwardness, and decided to try and break the ice between the two, but it didn't work well. They made up, but it seemed fake and forced.

Finally, it's runway time.  Thank GOD Santino is back with Drag Race. I love him so, so much. Here's to hoping he's permenant! Cute lil Ross Mathews is back, too.

Latrice and manila may have had the worst runway looks, with their horrible Teletubbies rip off, but they won the challenge, having the best photos, with Raven and Juju in close second. Next it was time to critique everyone left. Alexis and Yara didn't get too much hate, but Pandora and Mimi got ripped apart, especially the lime green boas on their outfits. Doesn't Michelle hate green? Bad move, girls. Nina and Tammie are the most obviously safe here, getting next to nothing bad said about them. Just as they are about to leave the stage, Ru drops another bombshell. Each team must agree on one queen to lip sync for the both of them. One wrong move and two great queens could go home.

Of course the drama from before unfolded on the runway. The Pandora and Mimi feud seems like it will never die. Even during the critiques, the judges noticed that Pandora was pissed about the team situation, which ultimately was their undoing.

The runway is tense after the girls come back on stage. Pandora and Mimi are obviously in the bottom. Joining them are Chad and Shannel. I don't want any of these girls to go home. It all comes down to Mimi VS Chad. Well, sort of. They have a backup plan, which is a button to stop the song and take the other's place if they are in an emergency, but they can only use it once per season.

It's sad to say, but two of my favorites had to go on the first episode. It was goo dto see Mimi and Pandora again, and I know that this is not the last we will see of either of them. Thankfully Manila is still on the show. That bitch better win!

  1. It’s too bad Pandora couldn’t get past her feeling for Mimi in the first episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All stars,” I think they would have done better on the runway and the photo shoot. Ross Mathews is adorable, and I hope he is a judge for season five. I will miss next week’s episode because of my new work schedule at DISH. I set my Hopper to record the upcoming episode, and with all the recording room available I’m going to record the rest of the season, including “Untucked.” I’m picking Manila, JujuBee, and Raven for the spot in the top three; I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season turns out.
