Apres Ski Season 1 Episode 3 [Review]

Well now, didn't this show turn out to be quite the unexpected gem? I gave this show a shot in the dark, as I had only seen one promo for it. It turns out it is looking like it's going to be quite a bit of fun. The cast is established now, and the drama is flowing. A clear line is appearing and it's clear that not everybody is happy about being where they are.

Also I'd like to note that I am going on a slight hiatus for the holiday season. I will continue to do my reviews (Vanderpump Rules, Apres Ski, and starting in December Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills and Work Out New York) but the other content will be much more sporadic. I would like to enjoy my holidays and focus on some other projects for a while, so the news flow may be slowed. Please forgive me!

There was so much insanity going on this episode, it's hard to put into words, but I'd like to start out with one of the more pleasant parts of this week -- Bobby. It looks like Bobby is back on the prowl. He mentioned that he had recently broken up with his ex and was looking for something more. So where does he turn? Every single gay mans best friend: Grindr. I was actually kind of surprised by how many guys he was finding out there, especially since he mentioned earlier that there was next to no gay scene in Whistler.

He had found a date for the night, but he made sure to tell Charlotte, Jim, and Lyndsy (who is back finally! Yay!) to show up and crash the date to make it more tolerable. In his interviews, Bobby made it very clear that he was only looking for sex. I kind of took this as a double edged sword. I love seeing gay people on television. Increasing our visibility is amazing, but when you are show as a Grindr fiend and only looking to hook up, I think it sends a kind of inaccurate message. Either way, the crew crashes his date, but that didn't stop the guy from outright making out with him in front of everyone. You go Grindr hookup dude. You're far braver than I am.

Later in the episode Bobby and Charlotte had a little alone time to talk about things. He mentioned that they did have sex (in a room designated for that, grossly enough), and that he had also been asking to his ex. Both of them agreed that he needed to cut off his ex, but as per usual getting out of a long term relationship is very difficult. I felt for him here, because letting someone go is probably the hardest thing you can do.

At least he got a little action though.

Elise was the main catalyst for drama this week. She was the shoulder for Kendra to cry on this week... Well kind of. Kendra went whining to her boss about how the dinner went last episode. What she failed to mention is that she started the dialogue, and she also kind of upped the drama in it. In reality they weren't being all that mean to her, and just helping her fit into the group better. Unfortunately all Elise had to go on was Kendra's slanted version of the story, so of course she tried to pep her up. Not being one for being able to talk like a normal human being, she more or less told her that it's a job and she's not there to make friend. Alright then. Good talk?

Where she really was struggling was with her home life. We got a brief clip of Elise Skyping with her young son. She was worried that he wouldn't want her back in his life by the time she wrapped up this job, and she let it affect her big time. During the client interviews, when Tamara asked her if she'd like to take over, she gave a bit of sass in response. She claims it was because she was distracted, but who knows what really happened. Elise was quick to explain to her crew that she was in a bad mood that day, but that didn't stop her from being called into the office.

All I can say is that Tamara is one understanding woman. If this had been any other boss, Elise would have been in serious hot water. She may have even been fired. But Tamara is a kind soul, and after Elise explained what happened with her home life, the situation shifted to a more positive note. Elise got out unscathed this time, but I have a feeling that this won't be the only time this lady is in trouble.

The team was once again split into two groups for this week. They put Bobby and Kendra together again working for a couple that were known as Vancouver Royalty. Bobby came up with a plan to make a spa trip for them where they closed down the whole spa to serve just them. It was mentioned that they wanted a butler, so Bobby appointed Kendra. Elise had strong feelings that he should have given the job to Charlotte (which honestly made sense since she is the assistant), but Bobby's loyalty to Charlotte was too strong for that. Elise volunteered to cook for the meal, not wanting to risk it after the gondola debacle.

Things actually went well for this one. Kendra, whether she liked it or not, was very good at serving the gusts every needs. Elise made an amazing meal, and the guests where happy. That's what matters right?

The other team was Lyndsy and Jim. Their clients, Semi-pro Snowboarders Dez, Joe, and Adam, were friends of both Lyndsy and Jim, so it was obvious that they should take the helm here. They came up with the idea for them to have LED suits to snowboard at night, and also to do the helicopter snow boarding that Lyndsy is famous for. Both of these events went off without much of a hitch. It looked like this week as a whole was much more successful than the previous two.

It was interesting to get to know Jim a bit more. Sure he's hot, but I'm glad there is more to him than just a pretty face and ripped bod. He opened up to Lyndsy (Who by the way he seems to have a budding romance starting up with), about his motorcycle accident a year prior. It was pretty scary sounding, and he told her that his knee was still messed up form it. He was nervous to go on the trip to jump out of the helicopter, but in the end he made it through. Whether he was smiling for real or holding in the pain is unclear, but either way he got the job done like a real professional.

It was at the end of the episode that all hell broke loose. They met for a lunch to discuss the week. Elise had a lot of positive things to say, that is until her boss Tamara left. After Tamara (and by coincidence Jim) left, the conversation drastically changed. Kendra was named MVP, and Bobby mentioned she only got so much praise because he made her the butler. This started a downward spiral conversation, and once Bobby mentioned that he wouldn't pick Charlotte for that role because he favored her, Elise made a bold point to say he favored Charlotte because she isn't black.

First of all, my main problem with this is that if you remember back to the first week, Bobby was a butler too for a group of rich women. He already had his turn. Second, it was obvious from the start that he and Char were besties, so why would this get construed as racism? I think that was a crazy thing to say, and with the episode ending on that note, it really has me craving for more. Elise is already walking on thin ice, but calling someone racist? That's a bold move that may not end well for her.

I am finally feeling this show. The drama is flowing and the feuds are all in place. I was originally hoping for a short season (due to my upcoming huge work load of reviews) but now I kind of don't want it to end. I guess time well tell. Bravo, go ahead and get this show a season two will you?
