RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 Episode 10 [Review]

Welcome to RuPaul's Drag Race were the insanity never ends! Don't believe me? Well wait until you see what today's main challenge is. I mean this show has always been evolving in it's creativity and takes on drag, but this is a whole different ball game. Pun certainly intended. Let's get into it.

It's always drama with these girls! Right after Miss Fame is sent packing, the girls head into the work room and see her message. Most of them had been fed up with the gal for a while, so the reactions are pretty shady. Go figure. Violet was the only one who was really supportive of Fame, and it really showed here. Miss Fame left each of the girls personalized messages, which everyone but Violet laughed off and made into a joke. Honestly that should have been a heartwarming moment, and they played it off. I wasn't happy about this.

Soon enough Ru shows up to give them the mini challenge. Looks like this week the girls have got to use tape to make their own plastic surgery faces. Pearl has a leg up here because she's been doing this occasionally in challenges so far. The girls each had to look fake, as well as have a "real housewives" line as part of the Fake Housewives of RuPaul's Drag Race. I would pay SO much money to watch this show. Violet is the deserving winner (although Pearl's alcoholic line was genius).

As the winner, Violet gets to make the pairings. She immediately grabs for Katya, who is pretty annoyed with the situation. Violet then pairs up Pearl and Kennedy, as well as Trixie and Ginger. These really seem to be the worst pairs of all time. Violet is so far removed from Katya's generation, Kennedy is a high energy performer while Pearl is more low key, and Ginger and Trixie are always trying to out-camp each other to the point of me hitting my head on the wall. No. I don't like these pairings at all.

After some pointless words from Ru, they move on to be coached from two Dancing with the Stars alumni, Carson and Kym. I've never watched that show, so I have no idea who they are or what's going on. Anyway, these two do seem to be informed with the dancing, but as it is with every rehearsal segment, only the awful is highlighted (with Kennedy being the only exception). Everyone had major problems. Pearl can't twerk, Katya can't vogue, and Ginger can't anything.

We did get a really cute moment before the runway look this week. Katya admitted she wasn't so happy about working with Violet, but after getting closer to her she found out she wasn't so bad. Katya said she is envious of her confidence, and even though she's ten years younger, she is more confident and outgoing that she ever could be. Violet really is changing minds of viewers everywhere.

Now for the runway. Category is -- wait is that Alyssa Milano!? Oh gurl she is way pregs. Anyway, category is half man-half woman drag!

Pearl - I love this look completely. The boy side is attractive, and the woman side is her now iconic old Hollywood glamor. Looking good is never a challenge for Pearl, boy mode or girl mode, so this was an obvious top pick.
Kennedy Davenport - I get the dress would be good for a dancing challenge, but for a runway it's not. She did a good job with the juxtaposition of the male to female, but the look as a whole felt kind of meh. Not my favorite for this week.
Trixie Mattel - I hate this look. I mean hate hate HATE it. The girl side is too camp and the man side is so boring. They don't mesh and it looks like she didn't even try. Using a hat to hide the "seam" at the hair was also a crap move. At least have one half of the cowboy hat painted pink or something. Its a miss. A HUGE one.
Ginger Minj - And there's another big miss this week. Ginger is never really a big runway girl, but this was not great. The girl side was boring, and the boy side, while it was fun and bubbly, wasn't strong enough to carry the whole look. Also did anyone else clock the back of her dress being a bit off? Nobody? Really?
Violet Chachki - Best look tonight hands down. I love the mustache for the man side, and the hair and dress for the female side are priceless. She always rocks it on the runway. Always.
Katya - She looks amazing too, but given her very similar look to Violet, coupled with coming directly after her and not having the look as on point, it really works against her for the runway. I know the dress if for the dance segment, but it still felt incomplete somehow. Love you still!

The dances were -- surprise!! -- awesome. Yeah. I told you they only show the very worst of the rehearsals. Puhlease. These girls all rocked it. Pearl really pulled it out, having high energy in place of talent, which really saved her in the end. Trixie and Ginger really pulled it out, camping things up a bit in place of their technical correctness. And Katya and Violet were just amazing. There's nothing else I can say about them. Vogue babies! Vogue!!

During judging, Ginger broke down, confessing that she was nervous about this challenge and almost had a total meltdown. She is apparently afraid of dancing in front of people, which is an odd fear for a drag queen of all people to have. She says that she giggles too much and is afraid of being judged. The judges reassure her that she is here for a reason, and she needs to stay strong. Aww!

That, unfortunately, doesn't help her from being the bottom. Being that they are being judged in teams, Trixie is drug down into the bottom with her. Katya and Violet won of course, and poor Trixie becomes this week's victim. I like her, but being that Ginger is a top player, there was no way she could have made it out alive. It looks like Team Gao is still mostly in tact. Stay strong Katya and Ginger!
