Skin Wars Season 2 Episode 4 [Review]

After GSN devilishly decided to take a week off, we finally have our favorite reality competition show back on the airwaves. And if you think that's a dig at RuPaul's Drag Race you better set your butt down and watch before you judge. It looks like Ru has brought in some help this week in the form of the ultra-fabulous. What happens when two of the best reality competition shows cross paths? Let's find out!

The painters pile in for another day on the set to meet Rebecca, Robin, and RuPaul. That's a lotta Rs! She starts the challenge immediately by saying they need to do swimsuits on models based on randomly assigned locations including space (Dawn Marie, of course). We get a lot of concern from the contestants because they don't really know how to represent these places they've not been, but with two hours it looks like they're just going to have to jump into it.

During the countdown to the end, we get to see a lot of interesting points of view. We get big-headed Fernello admitting he needs to do better, as well as Dawn being determined to never be called an assistant again. Dawn is quickly becoming one of my favorites for this and many other reasons. Kyle and Sammie throw a bit of shade at Cheryl Ann, and to be honest she needs it. Fernello has faded into the background as this season's villain and Cheryl has become the HBIC. Is it for the better, though?

Avi and Aryn both had very impressive bathing suits. It honestly looks like realistic clothing isn't something that this season has in the bag. There were a lot of awesome designs like Kyle and Lana, but none of them gave the full illusion that they were a real bikini. Unfortunately we don't get to see a lot of the ideas behind these because the show never focuses much on the mini challenges. Oh well. The main event is still to come. The top three ended up being Aryn, Avi, and Cheryl Ann. Avi was the obvious winner, taking home the metric ton of glitter.

They move right on to the main challenge. They are going to have to do a full apparel look for their male models. Now even if I hadn't seen the promos for this I still would recognize the vast majority of those male models that stepped out. They're from the marvelous show RuPaul's Drag Race and yes, they are going to have to do body painting for drag queens!

Dawn Marie is just as pumped as I am!

Everybody (sans Fernello) seems pretty excited about this. They are going to paint the ladies as celebrities on the red carpet, with each one assigned a celebrity and will need to get it all done for the main stage. Avi gets Yara Sofia as Shakira, Rio gets Tammie Brown as Tina Turner, Fernello gets Mariah as Janet Jackson, Cheryl Ann gets Vivinne Pinay as Nicki Minaj, Sammie gets Alyssa Edwards as Katy Perry, Dawn Marie is assigned Jessica Wild as Beyonce, Lana gets Venus D-Lite as Madonna (sigh), Aryn gets Detox as Cyndi Lauper, and Kyle gets Laganja Estranja as Lady Gaga. Man that was a mouthful. They all go home to come up with ideas.

The next day the queens pile in, hip pads and all. The painters all seem very timid around the queens, letting them lead the way with the styles. First off, Cheryl Ann tries to give Vivinne a fake booty. Girl, leave the padding to the queens. That's more their specialty. It looked horrible, but Cheryl thinks just because she's been in the top so often that she knows best. Go home, girl. Dawn has the right attitude, though, not letting her past couple weeks of falling short get her down. I really love Dawn these days and I'll be sad if she is the one to go home.

Aryn is one of the few that really get how to treat a drag queen, making sure Detox is on the same page with her with the design. The two of them really got along well. Apparently the queens can't do their own face makeup either, so the painters have to do their makeup. Fernello did well on Mariah's face, but obviously he didn't spend much time on the rest. Before they knew it, time was up, and they were off to the main stage.

How bout this main stage this week!?
Dawn Marie/Jessica Wild/Beyonce - I like a lot of this black and gold. It's not the most realistic looking, but it's definitely well thought out. There is far more detail than we usually get from Dawn, and overall was a great job.
Aryn/Detox/Cyndi Lauper - I love this. IT was so cool and 80s. Aryn did an amazing job. It was very Cyndi and also very Detox. It was spot on on both fronts.
Lana/Venus D-Lite/Madonna - I really have never been big on Venus. I don't know if she's a big enough name (she went home first or second, I don't even remember), and she's always Madonna. The work had way too much going on with it. The details were nice but the whole piece was just meh.
Avi/Yara Sofia/Shakira - I usually love Avi's work, but this dress threw me off a bit. I know he said he saw Shakira with a snake once, but it really didn't scream Shakira to me at all. It was very well done and worked as an outfit as a whole, but it wasn't Shakira to me.
Cheryl Ann/Vivienne Pinay/Nicki Minaj - No. Next. Sorry Viv.
Kyle/Laganja Estranja/Lady Gaga - Yasss! I am not even a fan of Gaga, but this was so right it couldn't possibly be wrong. The outfit looked great and it completely worked with Laganja's style. I've come to love that queen over the years, and she's so fabulous. She even death dropped! Yes!!
Rio/Tammie Brown/Tina Turner - Oh, Rio. I don't know what happened here but I don't really like what I see. Tammie is a very unique queen and she's standing out tonight in a bad way. I'm glad her humor shown through, and if anything that may be what saves him.
Sammie/Alyssa Edwards/Katy Perry - This one is very cute. It's not the best, but it's very far away from the worst. Alyassa looks like Katy, the dress looks good as a whole, and the concept is there. Not worried at all about my girl this week.
Fernello/Mariah/Janet Jackson - Again, the face is flawless, but the body needs a lot of work. I don't see it as enough of a reason to send him home because the concept as a whole is there and it's not sloppy, but there are no details at all and the "clothing" doesn't look like clothing.

I don't really go into the deliberations, but I really love that Viv threw Cheryl under the bus. That was a beautiful reality tv moment.

It's time for the tops and bottoms, and as per usual it's pretty clear who is where. Avi, Dawn Marie, and Aryn are the top three. My gurl Aryn takes home another win for Team Gao. I am so glad to see her succeed. We then move onto the bottom four of Rio, Cheryl, Lana, and Fernello. Unfortunately it's not Cheryl Ann, instead we have to say goodbye to Fernello.

Team Gao is still in tact. We need a win for Sammie to even the playing field. Let's try that next week, shall we?
