The episode starts out in the best way possible -- with Lisa R. She is literally the best thing that ever happened to this show. Last years newbies really didn't leave much of an impression, and they left just as quickly as they arrived, but Lisa R is making sure you know she's here to stay! We get a nice little intro to her antics for this episode about going home to sell her childhood home due to family complications. Much to her children's dismay, they are going with her.
Lisa V has a pointless extended segment where she explains that her swans are gay, and that how much she loves each and every one of her fifty dogs she has loitering around.
Finally, though, we get a scene of Lisa R with the other housewives outside of Vanderpump's sight. She meets Eileen and Yolanda for lunch, and the two really hit it off. I find it so cute when Yolanda talks about her kids. You can really tell they are her whole life, which is why I think she's so level headed when compared to many of the franchise's stars. Unfortunately Rinna kind of got lost in the mix as Yolanda and Eileen bonded. I hope to see more of this trio in the future, but given the Lisas alliances to each other and Yolanda's distaste for the Vanderpumps, it might be a difficult friendship to solidify.
Where the episode really got me was with Rinna. We got to see her parents, and as much as her children were against going to Oregon, once they saw their grandparents they were so touched. Lisa's dad is over 90 years old, and her mom had a stroke. She is very clearly worried for both of her parents' health. The whole family got together for a dinner, and we got to see a much more low key version of Lisa than we have in the past five episodes. This is the real Lisa. No jokes, just honesty.
It all came to a head when she and her mother went to her old family home that was being sold to go through some of the belongings. They found a lot of moments captured inside the house such as notes Lisa had wrote, a pillow she had made, and even modeling pictures. As much as she hated living in Oregon, she really did like the house and she loved her family, so saying goodbye was hard. We were left with the realization that Lisa is now the adult who has to take care of her family, both her kids and her parents, and that it won't be easy.
Then there's Kyle. Does anybody else feel like Kyle's storylines this season have no depth at all. So far all he of her stories have been about how rich she is. We get it. You have money. What else you got? Well she's throwing a barbeque, and by barbeque I mean a big fancy party with the pretext that a grill may have been used at some point. All of the wives show up, sans Rinna who was with her parents, and things get awkward fast. Lisa V and Brandi are still not on good terms, and it makes the whole room feel awkward.
And the awkwardness doesn't stop there. Eileen, who's now meeting the bulk of the girls for the first time, is a bit put off by Brandi's antics as well, which doesn't bode well for future group outings. I'm hoping that Eileen can adjust to hearing her vulgarities, because honestly I can't stand another house divided season.
So my favorite part of the episode was everyone calling out Lisa V for being stubborn. First Yolanda gets miffed that she wasn't invited to the star unveiling last week. She points out that she holds grudges. Then we get Kim saying that she needs to be more responsive to Brandi trying to reach out. Then we get Kyle saying she holds grudges worse than anybody. Damn. Everybody's hating on Vanderpump this week!
Of course Brandi had to try and get Lisa V to come to her party one last time as she was walking out of the door, which prompted a sort of rude defensive strategy from Lisa V, bringing up the drama from last year and exiting swiftly.
This season they are not holding back at all with the new cast members. I am loving both Rinna and Eileen, as they are such beautiful women with great families and good stories to tell. Unfortunately that means some of the brighter stars of Beverly Hills from past seasons are getting overshadowed as of recently. Again this week we see so very little of Kim, who has blossomed this season into a life-loving beautiful sober woman. I want to see more of that side of Kim! And when it comes to Brandi what little we see from her is simply fallout from last season. I'm hoping that after next week's housewarming party, we get to see more into the psyche of Brandi without all the Lisa V drama clouding it up.
