Another month, another block of Real Housewives of Atlanta episodes. These women really know how to bounce around topics and stir up all sorts of drama in their city. This month we had a wide array of crap hitting the proverbial fan, but also a lot of progress. Which will come out shining most of all?
Soooo much happened this month that it's hard to find a good place to start. Probably what stuck out the most in the first half of the month was the big dinner that was meant to straighten out all the problems. Kandi gathered together the entire cast of season six to try and get some answers. Although we didn't get any progress with the Kenya/Porsha debacle we did get some progress on Nene and Cynthia.
This is where I get confused as hell, because the same thing virtually happened at both of the "make up" dinners that were had. Nene seemed so progressive and willing to accept Cynthia back, and then it would cut to an interview where she would confess they would never be friends, or that she could see through the fakeness. It is very unclear when the interviews were done, and editing can make anyone look shady, so I will give Nene the benefit of the doubt here. Cynthia seemed very genuine the whole time, making for a good outlook for the future for these two friends.
As for Kenya and Porsha, at the second dinner they did get to talk much more, and shocking the hell out of literally everyone watching, Kenya came out looking like the better person. Kenya is either a really good liar or a really good person, and I'm honestly not entirely sure which is which so far. Either way, she was much more open to forgiving and forgetting, while Porsha more or less pouted the whole time not willing to budge. I can kind of understand Porsha's unwillingness, especially since there was a lawsuit involved, but really? Do we have to be this petty when someone is genuinely trying? I mean if she stabs you in the back, at least it's on camera, which could really help your case.
Either way, the drama between the girls seemed to be squashed -- even that squabble between Porsha and Cynthia that everybody forgot about because it was incredibly nonsensical. To be in a heated argument over someone being late? That is sooo last season. Literally.
The main focus for Kandi this year is on her mother once again. I really feel like she wants to say so much to that woman, but because of the way she was raised she won't allow herself to do so. For instance, she just accepted the fact that her mom's boyfriend destroyed her house with "renovations". I mean really gurl? Can we at least make her aunts cast members? Can you imagine the antics those two hilarious women would get into if we gave them more screen time?
We got to meet this season's new "friend of the housewives", but honestly with her only being in one episode, I didn't get much of a feel for Demetria. She is dating some big shot, but from the looks of the next episode preview, she may become a more key figure.
On to the real new addition (get it!?), Claudia. She is honestly one of the most gorgeous women I've seen on these shows -- and she claims to be in her forties. Someone give this woman a lie detector test! Anyway, we had next to no drama with her, but instead got to see her bond much more with Kenya and Cynthia, as well as make her introductions to all the housewives. She really seems to be fitting in, which is great seeing as a lot of the time when new people joint they are kind of on their own. I totally take back what I said before about her being added on to film with Kenya due to her being hated by 99% of everyone. She really is hitting it off, and with her looks and her fun personality she will be sticking around for a while. Easy.
I really can't get much of a read on Phaedra. She is the most composed of all the women, and I really feel like she's been around the legal system as well as having been on the show long enough, that she knows that any audio clip she can give them can and will be twisted into something it probably never was. She is always so composed and really never says anything in one way or another. All she says is that she wants Apollo to spend time with his kids, which can't really be construed negatively. This woman knows what she's doing.
And can we talk about Porsha for a second? I know she's been "demoted" to "friend of the housewives" but she's practically still a cast member. You can't really expect her to just vanish, and with her being so intertwined in the business of what's going on and all the drama, she can't really just be a "friend". I see her being bumped back up to housewife status soon. It's going to be unavoidable if they continue to involve her at this level. Demoting her was a bad idea in the first place.
Things are really shaky right now. With Nene saying it could be years before she could be besties with Cynthia again, and with Kandi's mom virtually destroying her marriage, this season looks like it's headed for a big blowup. They've taped over the cracks, but everybody knows that scotch tape can't fix all your problems, and with a little pressure, it's gonna explode. Let's hope for their sake that all these problems don't collide at once.
The future is not too bright for Atlanta this January.
