It's been a while since I've done a Top Five post, and I think it is about time this got a revival. This go around I decided to go through my favorite remixes. I had to ponder for a long time on whether it should be "of 2012", but instead I went with "recent" because a few of them that I still listen to today pre-date this year.
Let me also take a moment to explain exactly what I find a "good remix" to be. First off it has to be exciting. Nobody likes a boring song. Secondly, it needs to have the lyrics in tact. I don't want a remix of an artists song with the lyrics only spliced in every couple of minutes, or reduced to an annoying constant stutter where nothing is audible. Lastly, I generally fall in love with remixes of songs that I liked to begin with, and the remix gives it either new life or a new point of view. Now that I have that settled, we can move on to our first song.
5. Nadia Oh - No Bueno (Cory Martin Remix)
It wouldn't be a top five list without Nadia. I placed her so low on the list because the original song isn't even close to being one of my favorite tracks by her (She has an amazing musical library), but this remix really saved the song for me. The remix is sped up from the original, but keeps that same Nadia vibe. I guess I had just had too much Moombahton for one sitting when she had released the original. Thankfully this remix came out and saved the day.

New Video: Nadia Oh "Slapper (Ayye)"
Nadia Oh... Dear lord, Nadia Oh. I have been a fan of yours for years, and to this day, I am still unsure if you are serious, or just trolling everybody. Maybe it's part of the reason I like her... or maybe I just like her because she makes some sick music. The queen of Moombahton may be exploring new musical genres, but her hilariously static vocals are still her signature. Check out her video for her newest smash "Slapper". Ayyyyye~
So pretty much the entire music video is her trying on different clothes, most of which I am pretty sure are made out of colored tissue paper. Who knows? To be honest, I was hoping to see some horribly green screened takes of her on the motorcycle from the single cover.
The exciting part is that this means the song is a legitimate single, not associated with her last album (like some after-album singles turned out to be). Hopefully, that means that by the end of the year or beginning of 2013 we will have another smashing Nadia album to rock out to. I'll do my best to get the scoop for you guys!

Song of the Week - Slapper (Ayye)
Seriously. I know you guys are probably saying "Did you make a post about how awful this song was a few days ago" and my response is shut up I can do what I want. Honestly, I said that I wanted to wait for the full version to make my verdict, and I have. It's actually pretty good.
Just look at that cover art! Gawgeous! Anyway, the song itself is, indeed, a mixed bag so to speak. It is quite unlike anything I've ever heard from Nadia, as well as anything I've heard produced by Space Cowboy (with whom I have the most unhealthy obsession with). That being said, if you overlook just how unlike her it is, the song is actually quite catchy. The hook will get stuck in your head even if I have no idea what the crazy woman is saying in it. I just kind of mumble something resembling "madam" over and over.
I have to say that the song does not lie. This beat is a slapper. If you don't watch it, it might slap you in the face. My favorite part has to be the "Oh, Oh, Oh. Nadia Oh" portion. These little tidbits paired with the hilarious lyrics that I obviously am good at (very slightly) misquoting. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it utters my favorite line to ever grace a song -- "Space Cowboy just play that track." If only it were longer than two and a half minutes.
I think Ayye is my favorite new word of 2012. Suck it.
Buy the song. Now.

Nadia Oh Previews "Slapper (Ayye)"
Dear lord, Ms. Oh. What the hell have you gotten into this time? If there is one thing she is good at, it is making something new and different while still being very distinctly Nadia. Unfortunately that means that just when you fall in love with her current sound, she flips it around and you have to stomach something else for a while.
Oh god.
Slapper.
I think I will wait for the full song to be released, because often times it's the bridge that really makes me fall in love with a song, but the preview of this one just doesn't grab me as quickly as her previous tracks. I mean it has the stereotypical rap "clap" beat and it comes packed with a hook more annoying than "You're a jerk." What's a Nadia fan to do?
The actual lyrics are amusing as always. With such gems as "Skin tone like coffee mixed with a cream" and "working harder than ten bitches in a hot tub", the song has that true troll-tastic nature that she has always brought, but I don't know if humor alone will make this a top notch track in my book.
Also where's the Moombahton?

First Listen: Nadia Oh - Fqn Amazing
Oh, Nadia, how you always own my heart. This time is no different. Nadia Oh, Space Cowboy's main project, has never been one to disappoint. Lately, she has been taking advantage of viral marketing and has made her music available as it's ready on SoundCloud as opposed to waiting for an iTunes release. Much like Vampire Night, this new track is unbelievably sickening.
Nadia Oh 'Fqn Amazing' masterr by nadiaoh
The song breaks away from the almost Bollywood feeling of her past album and has adapted a new club bumping style. This song feels so distinctly different that I can only describe it as the jump from her debut album to "Colours". If you don't understand, just try and imagine her doing The Soopermodel to this track. Yeah.
This song was made for club play. It has a lot of club-track staples, and it just makes you want to move. I can't help but do a few (really bad) moves while listening to the song for this mini-review. It keeps her usual speak-rap style, but it also has her singing in a few spots. The vocals sound a bit over-processed during the singing parts, but given her style and overall lack of seriousness (I mean really? Who wears a sweater to a rave party?) I think this can be overlooked.
The song is in the same vein as "Telephone" by Gaga, but takes a much more positive approach. Instead of ignoring her boyfriend like a jerk, she is gonna take pictures and text him everything so that he feels like he was there. She's quite certain that her night is going to be "fqn" amazing -- Speaking of which, I wonder if the fact that she technically isn't saying the f-bomb that she could get past the censors.
The song literally just hit the net, "about six hours ago" according to SoundCloud, and coming in at around three and a half minutes, this song is the perfect length for a single. I can't say I would be disappointed in the least if this was the new Nadia single, but with this girl you never know. We will have to just keep listening and supporting her. Cheers to more music from this budding diva in the near future!

Top Five Pop Divas I Would (Probably) Go Straight For (Maybe)
The time has come again for yet another pointless top five list from your favorite blogger. In case you haven't gathered this yet, I am gay as hell. I can hit on male artists all day long, but it's rare that I hit on the ladies. I feel I am comfortable enough in my sexuality to make a list of the top five hotties of pop. Plus, it's way more interesting than a top five hot guys of pop (it would be five entries of Space Cowboy).
5. Nadia Oh
5. Nadia Oh
Speaking of Spacey, anyone notice how hot his protege is? I have been a fan of Nadia since she started releasing music. I remember the insane rumors about her being a computer generated image (and looking back at some of the early press shots of her, I don't blame people) but lately, she has proved them all wrong by releasing a video for almost every song she's ever recorded ever. Joking aside, I really do think this lady is very attractive, and her Miss Kittin-esque music only helps further her as a standout in my mind. Keep werkin it, sexy bitch.

First Listen - Nadia Oh's "Vampire Night"
That's right, bitches! Nadia Oh is not going to back down, and she sure as hell isn't going to loose any momentum. This time sounding a lot less like a song that didn't make the cut on "Colours" and more like a full-fledged single, Nadia is here to put her mark on your Halloween 2011 party!
Let me begin by saying that this track starts off in the best way possible -- with a cameo from Space Cowoby. Anybody who knows anything about me knows I am a HUGE Spacey fan. His bit of the chorus urges you to party "like vampires". Let's hope he's talking about Anne Rice's vampires and not Twilight.
Nadia Oh soon bursts in singing the same bit as Spacey leading into a techno orgasm of her howling and using all sorts of digital effects on her voice. I think that is what makes Nadia so brilliant: She knows she isn't the best singer so she sees it as an opportunity to do all sorts of crazy stuff with her vocal tracks. I think a lot of people see it as funny or troll-ish to call her amazing or brilliant, but I can say with one hundred percent seriousness that I think she is at the top of my list of favorite artists.
The song progresses to Nadia discussing how vampire-like she is by sipping on dacqueries and sucking on strawberries. Hold up. Is she a fan of Adventure Time because she sounds more like Marceline than anything else. Nadia, dear, those things are red. Yes, blood is red too, but you aren't a vampire just because you are eating and drinking red things. Anyway, the song from here on out is more your typical "party with the DJ" type of song... but GOD I LOVE NADIA OH!
This is one of the best songs she's put out in a while. I loved me some "No Bueno" despite it's uncanny resemblance to "Taking Over The Dancefloor" (Which was the inspriation for the name of my blog, by the way), and "Shade" was fun, but this track really feels like something brand new and fun. If this is the direction the next Nadia album will go in, I'm totally on board! Especially if it means more Space Cowboy vocal tracks!

Video of the Week - Jump Out The Window
As I am preparing for my vacation, I don't have a ton of time to post this, so I'll get right to the point. This video popped up on my radar a week or so via Nadia Oh's twitter. It's a mini music video to her track "Jump Out The Window". In between lines from the song is a mini (biased?) interview as well. Check it.
Gotta love Nadia. She definitely has a sense of humor. And yes... the JLS boys are pretty cute.

Album Review - Colours
In my infinite love for Space Cowboy, I have ventured out to give some of his friends a try. I like to think of Nadia as his protege, as he has spent a lot of time shaping her up, and I have to say, this new album is a vast improvement over her first. Upon hearing the leak of the title track a few months back I knew she was stepping things up. Let's take a look at these tracks
01. Hocus Pocus
This is a great opening track. It gets straight to the point with the bompin' beat and her party or die attitude. The beat is very reminiscent of a Dr. Luke song, but it's the vocals where the song becomes truly unique. Nadia finally shows her ability (or at least a decent attempt at) singing. She may not be the best singer in the world, but she tried and I gotta give her props. As for the lyrics, she is once again chasing after this same mysterious beautiful man from the first album. Maybe it's Space Cowboy? Lyrics are solid... except for the "OMG LOL" portion towards the end...
02. Is That You
This one is probably my favorite on the album. It is one of the songs where she spins out some pretty solid raps. I have to say, though, that the random Minnie Mouse-like voice in the chorus is a little creepy. The song is all about her trying to find out if this sexy guy is really who she thinks he is. Despite being repeditive, I really love this song and I sincerely hope it is her next single.
03. Jump (Out The Window)
I am conflicted with this one. It starts out really well with the basic chorus line being repeated a few times, but then it goes into a beat that sounds like a bad Black Eyed Peas rip off. Compound this with her rhyming "London" with "London", I just didn't really care much for the song. The lyrics, as always with Ms. Oh, are quite amusing. She boasts a big ego, but thats why I dig her. If you believe you are awesome, other people will too, and if they dont, they are just jealous.
04. Taking Over The Dancefloor
This song... I just don't dig it all. The song starts out with a very autotuned Nadia threatening to take my money, which continues for a good forty seconds until an annoyingly loud breakdown. I just don't see this as single material at all, which floored me when I found out this is her leading single for the album. I'm not saying this song is terrible, but I don't feel like it represents the album. This song feels like a song that was cut from her first album, as it has the older style of her music to it as opposed to the newer electro-pop feel.
05. Soopermodel
First of all... Sooper? Really? Uhg. Anyway, despite the poor grammar the song is pretty catchy. It starts off fumbling a bit, but as it progresses it turns out pretty good. Seeing as she keeps commanding you to "do the soopermodel", I'm guessing this song will need a video to make sense. It seems to be a type of dance... I dont know. Anyway, this is a solid track, but it doesn't stand out on it's own.
06. So Unforgettable
This song is more of an interlude with the same vibe as "Is That You" but with quicker lyrics and a new chorus. This song is yet another big-egoed track, but just like before it's what I've come to expect from her. This is the kind of track you could blare with the windows down as you drive by an ex who needs to see how incredibly awesome you've become. And what a coincidence! It's just long enough for a drive by mocking, too!
07. Amsterdam
This song is... strange. All I really gather from this song is "Amsterdam is for the win, yo". It is very sexual driven as she talks about sexy guys while she's tripping on acid in Amsterdam WHERE THIS KIND OF THING IS TOTALLY LEGAL. The song is pretty short and leaves the person with a blank stare wondering what they just heard.
08. Beauty & A Beast
After a few "wtf" tracks, we finally get back to being awesome with this track. The song is about a wild girl who is totally hot, but a complete beast in bed. The song is fun and upbeat and totally my style. I am in love with the "rawr" sample in the background, and I now throw in a random "rawr" to songs as I sing along with them... but mostly when I just forgot the lyrics. I could see this song being a big hit quite easily.
09. Colours
Let me start by saying I knew all the words to this song coming into this. The song was leaked to the internet months before the album dropped, so I'd been jamming to this for a while now. Aside from the annoying edits (such as a DJ scratch on the word "E" for ecstasy, but whatever). The song's verses are sung in the style of "Heart of Glass" by Blondie and I LOVE IT! The song is all about her hearing a guy ramble about what he's seeing while he's bugged out on ecstasy. "Purple skys and candy rain/Pink balloons and airplanes". The lyrics are amusing. The vocal effects are amusing and unique. The song is golden.
10. DJ's Girlfriend
And now we learn more about Nadia's mysterious crush! He's a DJ! Anyway, the song is another great track about how she admires a DJ and would do anything to be his girlfriend. The best part of the song is the bridge where she confesses about how he is amazing and making the crowd go "gaga".... maybe this mysterious DJ is Spacey after all. The song is pretty short, clocking in just under three minutes, but it is a nice and fun way to end the
So there you have it. I have to say that Ms. Oh has come quite a ways. Her first album, while great, feels very unpolished after hearing her new tracks. I am very satisfied with my purchase. This album shows that artists really do grow -- Even if it is just from being an Egyptian princess to Queen of Amsterdam.
