Vanderpump Rules Season 4 Episode 2 [Review]

I look forward to Tuesdays more than any other day now, being that I get to review one of the best reality TV programs out there, Vanderpump Rules. I don't know what it is about the crazy cast of servers, and but his season, the restaurant is more of a backdrop than anything. But there's something about them that always pulls me in. I can't explain it, but I'm sure if you're reading this, you feel it too. The season has just begun, and I can't wait to see what insanity is in store.

Let's start off with the interesting yet not overly interesting part of the episode -- Lala. She's the new hostess that Lisa has hired, and is already quickly making a name for herself. To begin with, she had a really crappy attitude throughout this week's episode. First she says that not only has Jax, who isn't her type, hit on her, but also that she's everyone's type. Sorry, honey, but that's not really that true. In her interviews, she shows a vastly different side of herself, being much more snotty and stuck up than she had lead on before.

That brings me to her first impressions with everyone. When it came to Lisa, she made a pretty bad one. Lala told Lisa last minute that she got a modeling gig in Italy and would be out for a few days. This happened right after she was done with her training and to be put on the regular schedule. Lisa had already voiced complaints about other staff members abusing her kindness and not working enough, so this was obviously a very bad move on her part.

Then there's the rest of the gang's reaction to her. Katie is formerly introduced to her at a social gathering with the majority of the cast, being her, Schwartz, Faith (another new hire who has yet to be interesting), Tom, Ariana, Jax, and Brittany (Jax's current girlfriend that we will talk about later). When Lala started talking about her modeling gig, it was obvious Katie didn't believe it for a second. Later back at SUR, Katie teamed up with Scheana to discuss the would-be model. They find her instagram, which is a picture of her naked from the back side. When they confronted her about the situation, Lala finally came clean and told them she lied to Lisa and it was a vacation (to which both Katie and Scheana say she traded sex for, but that's yet to be proven).

I honestly can't see her staying around much longer. Lisa doesn't tolerate liars, and I don't know if she's aware or not, but Lisa will get to eventually see the footage. So even if Katie or Scheana don't rat her out in the near future, she's still doomed for failure. Bye bye newbie.

Then there's a less dramatic situation -- Jax's new girlfriend. Well, to be fair it is one of his new girlfriends, but she seems to be the main one for now. It's not the same girl that went to Scheana's birthday party in the last episode, just to clarify. This girl's name is Brittany and she's from the midwest and was trying to move out to California. It's really hard to tell whether Jax was being genuine with his feeling for her, because he's really good at lying, as proven in past seasons of the show.

Jax brought her to SUR so she could interview with Lisa. Sadly, this girl made a lot of mistakes. First off she didn't have a resume (which Jax said was his fault for surprising her with the interview), and secondly she was wearing a very short dress which would be inappropriate for any interview outside of a strip club. Lisa didn't seem to take a liking much to her, but to be fair, Jax has brought a lot of girlfriends around before, as well as dated and slept with many women at SUR, so it's obvious why she's concerned.

And to up the importance of her concerns even more, Jax spent the time that Brittany was in the interview flirting with Lala. Luckily Katie was there to step in and remind him of the end goal of being with Brittany. It was really weird to see the two of them together after the explosive arguments from last season. It looks like while the cameras were off in the break between the two seasons that Katie and Jax found a way to mend their friendship. Good for them.

And then there was the bomb shell that went off this episode. Scheana let slip to Katie that Kristen had been blowing up her phone with texts talking about what happened after the party. Apparently James went home with Jenna, the woman he was drunkenly hitting on at the end of the episode. While he claimed that he took her straight home, detective Kristen found Uber receipts on his email that proved otherwise. This began a struggle for Scheana to try and figure out exactly who her friends are, but other drama boiled over before that.

There was a very awkward confrontation between James and Kristen at a restaurant. Things looked calm at first, but they always are until Kristen freaks out. She asked him what happened, and he lied quickly of course. Kristen, being the crazy person she is, came straight out and told him she had gone through his email. Ouch. One thing I think was important about this conversation that they downplayed but might come back to serve a purpose is when James asked her if she'd cheated, too. Of course Kristen stormed off, but James sounded very positive about his accusation, and with Kristen's response, I was left wondering the validity.

After some more harassing texts and Scheana complaining about being in the middle, Kristen and James have another meet up, but this one was a bit more meaningful. We had a really good heart to heart between the two of them wherein James admitted to kissing the other girl and attempting to take off her clothes but that they didn't have sex. Err, well at least until it showed the interview with James alone where he admitted that he did, and he was lying to Kristen. Don't these people realize that they are on camera? That what they say will be on a national TV show and Kristen will eventually know? All he is doing is prolonging the hurt, and with Kristen actually believing him, I honesty felt sorry for Kristen for the first time in three seasons.

There is no possible way that James and Kristen can keep dating, and I know for a fact that it will not end well at all.

Lastly there's Ariana. She and Tom were kind of background characters this go around being that most of the drama centered around Kristen, James, and Scheana (and Lala, to an extent). But don't fear, Ariana found a way to make things about her yet again. Last year I felt for her, given that Kristen was constantly attacking her and Tom, but this year, it feels like Ariana is holding onto an old grudge, still spouting off hateful remarks with none being fired at her to begin with.

Ariana in every scene she was in this week kept pointing out how awful Kristen was, and that Scheana was being a bad friend for not cutting off communications with her. Kristen has had her own demons to battle so far this year, and hasn't really spoke much about Ariana, leading it to seem very one sided in this fight. It even got to the point to where Scheana got tired of the complaining and met with Kristen to confront her on the entire situation, with the episode ending before we got a resolve. I used to adore Ariana, but this season so far she's simply piggybacked off of last year's events instead of developing her own storyline further. Ariana is easily my least favorite cast member at this time unless you count Lala who is likely to be fired before the end of the season anyway.

I have to say that it was really weird how so many characters have changed my mind this season. I actually like James now, I feel bad for Kristen, and Katie is now the voice of reason. Scheana still gets on my nerves a bit, but her drama is just unfolding. It looks like the past year has changed a lot of the people we've come to know on Vanderpump Rules, but whether it will stick is something entirely different. We've just started, and I'm sure there are many more twists to come.
