The episode picked up right where the last one left off with the crew up in the gondola. They decided to can the whole experience, and the woman who was freaking out quickly calmed down thereafter. On the other crew, Bobby's clients left very happy with high praises to him. During their meeting, Elise was quick to throw Kendra under the bus (with a little help from Charlotte), but Bobby's great job went unnoticed. I have a feeling this might be another catalyst for them disliking their new boss.
Things move quickly to the new clients. One of the two new clients is a big family with six kids attending. The whole trip was bout the kids, so that's where all the focus was. Jim suggested taking the kids out on snow mobiles, and Elise puts him in charge of the event. Kendra wanted to be a part of things so badly, but seeing as she had never been on a snow mobile before, she was put in charge of the kids' pet, a hairless rat thing they called a Skinny Pig. Kendra was given the task of seeing to the second round of guests, a duo that were looking to renew their vows in the mountains.
It's also worth mentioning that the already invisible Lyndsy was not going to be a part of the episode. She is still a full time snowboarder, and had made arrangements to be able to leave at different points in time in order to keep her obligations from before. At least she has something to fall back on if this whole thing doesn't work out.
Still though. Skinny pig?
The family trip went fairly well. It was interesting to see Jim in charge of things, and also how he reacted around kids. He may not look like a family man, but he really seemed to take to the kids very well. The first half of the trip, the snow mobiles, really had all of the kids engaged and having a good time. They did hit a bit of a rocky patch where Jim's snow mobile flipped, but nobody was hurt, and even though Bobby seemed to think it was due to Jim's inexperience, it really didn't affect the mood of the trip.
It was at the dinner where we really saw things come together. Charlotte was so good with handling the details, and even getting the kids engaged. Jim was able to keep the kids interested the whole time (which is a difficult task when you are dealing with kids 6-12). In interviews they kept asking him if he wanted kids, but he kept being a bit coy about it, avoiding giving a real answer to it. The mom of the kids asked if he would take them skiing the next day, and of course he said yes.
There was a tad more trouble on the slopes the next day. The kids themselves didn't seem to be getting along, which really wasn't any of Jim's fault, but it really reflected poorly on the day. The last kid wasn't able to make it down the mountain before they closed, which lead to a whole ordeal of the staff having to pick him up in a snow mobile and take him down the mountain side. Overall this trip seemed to be a far greater success than anything the company has produced thus far.
Most of the drama this week came out of -- surprise -- Kendra. She was in charge of the couple renewing their vows, and I think she may have taken too big of a project for herself. Not only did she miss one of the big deals that they wanted at the wedding, an ice sculpture, because she was playing on her phone, but she was also trying to piece too much together. Without much knowledge of the town or how far away other cities are, she really was at a disadvantage. When you couple that with the fact that she'd already set fire to so many bridges with her co-workers to the point to where nobody wanted to help her, you've got a recipe for disaster.
Though there were a few mistakes made, Kendra somehow managed to pull the whole thing out of her butt. She made her way through finding last minute help, cold temperatures (and on a mountain top? Who'd have thought!?), and gusty winds (see last sarcastic comment in parenthesis). I have to say I was very impressed with her. She may not have the greatest personality in the world, but she really gave these people the wedding of a lifetime.
Kendra's main problem is that she asked for them to treat her this way. Every time they show the group at the house, unless she needs one of them to save her, she doesn't talk to anybody. They all go in the hot tub? Kendra stays inside and does dishes. They all sit around and talk and drink? Kendra goes to her room and reads. She is never part of the group, so when they are all ganging up on her, I think it's less of them hating on her, and more of them simply not knowing who she is as a person. It also doesn't help that she's completely bossy.
To round out the episode they all met with Tamra, the CEO to discuss the week. There was much more positive that came out of this week than last, leading to a bit of bragging coming out of Elise. But as per usual, she did a quick 180 to be a completely different person. She got on Kendra's case for not telling the bride to wear more practical shoes. In Kendra's defense, she did mention it to the bride, albeit in a joking fashion, but she said it. Elise also railed into Jim for the instance of the kid being left behind on the ski trip. He was shut down quickly by Elise when he tried to explain what "really" happened, but lucky for him Tamara is a much kinder hearted person, and she explained to Elise that she needs to trust her team.
After they all get grilled by management, the concierges (minus Lyndsy still) went out for dinner as a group. It didn't take long for the topic of discussion to fall on Kendra. Bobby brought up that she can be very bossy, and her reaction was to quickly ask if they all hated her. The results were a very fake sounding "no". Kendra caught on to their lack of realness and took off teary eyed. Even after all the crummy things this woman has done, it still feels bad seeing her get choked up over people not liking her. I think it's a place many people have been to. Even if she is a bit deserving of what the others are giving her, I just can't hate her.
So far Apres Ski has surprised me a number of times. They have gathered a great cast of people, and made them interesting enough for people to care about only two episodes in. While Lyndsy remains a bit of a mystery to me as to how she's even a cast member, the rest of the crew carries on well enough without her. From the looks of the mega trailer, things are only getting more intense from here. This show may just be the guilty pleasure of the season, no?
