Right after the elimination from last week, the girls head straight into the work room. Pearl is really bothered by the critiques from the judges, and literally everyone is upset that Trixie went home. It's nice to see that even at the time it happened, they all were shocked. Everyone watching thought she would make it til the end, but sometimes Ru has other things in store for us.
We move on to the work room on a new day, and Ru decides to highlight a fan of the show. Taking some inspiration from Instagram user PaperDragRace, this mini challenge was all about making iconic Hollywood red carpet looks out of nothing but paper. Ru pairs everyone up based on who they lined up by, giving us even more unique pairings for the show.
The ladies really outdid themselves, with it being a close race. There was a relatively clear winner, though, with Katya and Kasha. Katya was set to be Bjork in her legendary swan dress, and in a weird twist of events, Kasha dressed up as Joan Rivers to give her a read as she walked down the red carpet. It was hysterical! These two of course won, both the mini challenge and my heart.
Ru tells the girls they are going to do the DESPY awards. Not only will the be presenters, but they are also going to be the winners. Each queen pair will get to present one category, and each category will have a winner as voted by their peers. The categories are Sexy Sexy Drag Queen, Most Busted Queen, Shadiest Queen, and Meatiest Tuck. The two winners of the mini challenge, Katya and Kasha, are set to be the openers.
I don't usually delve into workroom drama, but this one was pretty juicy. During Ru's rounds, he makes a stop off with Max and Pearl. After picking apart their idea a bit to try and push them in the direction he wants the to go (very common on this show), Pearl starts to get snappy. Ru makes a comment about Pearl not having a personality compared to Max's outlandish personality, which sets him off. He goes as far to call out Ru and storm out of the work room. Damn. That's a first.
After the drama is said and done, we get a quick montage of the girls rehearsing their routines with Kathy Griffin. It's so funny to hear her opinion on the girls, telling them to make it gayer (MORE GAY!) and letting them know when they've miss stepped. Unfortunately, most of the queens kind of ignored her suggestions (save for Kennedy and Jaidynn), and went ahead with most of the jokes that Kathy had vetoed. Yikes. Kind of a wasted bit of time no?
At least we got more Kathy. I love this woman.
Before the main stage, we got to see a few different sides of people we hadn't seen before. Firstly, Miss Fame is bat-tihs insane. No. Really. She starts talking about chickens, which she had promised to do in the show's teasers, but we had no idea she'd be this crazy. She talks about grooming them, getting tattoos of them, talking to them, and showing off their buttholes. Yeah. Crazy.
Other than that, we see Max yet again be an amazing person, comforting Pearl. Pearl gives her a big thanks for being so patient with her. Another friendship really starts to blossom between Miss Fame and Violet, who up til now has had nobody on her side. Maybe we will get to see something come from her after all.
The DESPY Awards were actually a lot better than I had come to expect. The girls really put this thing together. We open up with Katya and Kasha. Katya was holding her own well enough with Kasha lagging a bit. I was really surprised here because Kasha always has something to say, but when it came time to perform, she fell flat a bit.
We had Jaidynn and Kennedy come out after a couple of Roots jokes and up the funny quite a bit. I really loved their hourglass/wall clock joke. It played off fairly well, even if it did stretch out a tad too long. They were set to present the category of Sexy Sexy Drag Queen, with Miss Fame winning. The second category, Most Busted Drag Queen, was were the whole show reached it's highest point. Max and Pearl were hilarious. They were snarky uptight bitches and they did it VERY well. Katya, who got snubbed here, was deemed the Brooke Hogan of drag, leaving Jaidynn to win.
Ginger and Kandy present the award for Shadiest Queen, and I have to say once again Kandy gets lost in the background. This time, however, she is a bit less lost, if that counts for anything. She really tried to pull her own, and I think if she'd been with any other queen other than Ginger, she would have stood out more, but Ginger ruled this show. As a solo act, she was best in show, but her partner drug her down from the win. Violet wins this one, no questions.
Violet and Fame present Meatiest Tuck, with Katya winning rightfully so. Nothing was very memorable about their performance, meaning that they weren't amazing, but they also didn't royally screw up.
When it came down to it, Ru chose a team to win instead of just one person, leaving the obvious choice as Max and Pearl. These two really pulled it through. After Jaidynn and Kennedy were announced as safe, the other girls had to stand up and be critiqued. I'm sorry, but after hearing the judges talk to the girls, it was so painfully obvious who was in the bottom two that there was no need for the suspense when announcing it. It was Kandy versus Kasha.
Now if I hadn't been paying attention to social media I would have been outraged about this elimination, but being as I'm not new to the show nor am I stupid, I saw Kasha going home tonight a mile away. No literally, I called it at the beginning of the month. Why? Well Mrs. Kasha Davis announced she was releasing a single. Why would a gal release a song in the middle of her tenure on a show. No, she is going to go out with a bang and have it out on her final episode.
It was a shame to see Kasha go home already. I have loved her for a long time, but she just wasn't cutting it. The bad news is that Kandy is running out of fodder to keep her in the game. Nobody survives through their third trip to the bottom two, so she'd better step up her game. Someone is going ot have to royally screw up for her to keep her place here.
