Let's start the episode off with Violet saying something bitchy. What was it this time again? Oh, yeah. She hates Michelle Visage. Girl, if that ever gets around to her during the duration of filming, you are DONE. Let's hope for your sake that it doesn't. We all know she's not going home this week because we haven't seen her ultra-sinched waist yet from the promo, so there's not much suspense going on here.
We move on quickly to the mini challenge, where Ru welcomes in his musician friend Moby to help with the judging. I haven't seen this man surface in decades. Bravo, Moby, for still being a living person. Anyway, Ru announces the Pit Crew is personally going to blow each and every queen on the show... with a leaf blower. Misleading, I know. The girls really have fun with this one, and being that I'm really classy, I'm not going to post the pictures of Miss Fame's jacked up teeth. I mean you can find them on Tumblr. And you should.
This mini challenge was really stupid. Like on the same level of the mini challenge from years past were they had to hide behind a screen and use only their mouths to lip sync. At least that one had something to do with being a queen. This was just nonsense.
Ginger and Trixie win for some reason (how did they even judge?), and they got to be captains for the two teams for the main challenge. I was really happy to see Ginger take the spotlight, as she has so much sass and is really funny. As they choose their teams, there were a few big surprises. One of said surprises was Sasha Fail being chosen first. What? And then we have Violet being chosen almost last. She won last week and even though she's annoying and bitchy, she still has some talent.
Next up they go to rehearse. I honestly hate seeing these segments because I feel like they are edited in a way to only highlight the people who suck, making everyone think they are going to fail on the main stage, and nine times out of ten they work out the problems off camera and make it work on stage. I really don't have much to say here that won't be said on the main stage. Meh.
We did get a lot of great work room stuff this week. After a bit of a toss off between Ginger and Miss Fame, Fame comes out and says she was raised by her grandparents. In her touching story she tells us all about how her mother was in no state to raise a child so she was given to her grandparents at a young age. When she was fifteen her grandfather was murdered. It really gave us a look as to why she is so guarded and off-putting. I guess it makes more sense, anyway.
Trixie's team was a grab bag of good and bad on stage. We had a lot of bad. As much as I love Katya, she really messed up the opening monologue. She had no idea what her lines were for the vast majority of her speech, and everyone in the room saw it. Miss Fame was another big flop. She didn't have any rhythm at all. It wasn't all lost, Trixie really lightened up the mood, and Max's natural Madonna-esque acting really shined through here. These two saved this team from utter destruction.
While overall Ginger's team did far better, they did have a few weak links. Obviously Sasha Fail, who apparently sacrificed a goat to satan to not be in the bottom two last week, really flubbed up with this one. At least she tried. Kasha got a lot of positive notes from the judges, but honestly I saw her as another weak link. She was a bit too campy and over the top, even if I'm madly in love with her. Ginger was a breath of fresh air for the competition, and despite her plans of calling in a bomb threat, her team really did turn it. Surprisingly, I really, really liked Jasmine, who found her home in a comedy role this week.
Due to the length of the challenge, the runway was a minute long montage of the girls crammed in. Not many people stood out this week. We got to see Kennedy looking like Phaedra from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. We also got to see Max actually looking fashionable and cute (my top pick for the runway this week!). Jaidynn was a close second for the runway for me, but due to her not being a huge standout in the episode as a whole, I had to pick Max.
The winner this week was obvious. Ginger deserved this win, placing her as a forerunner, a huge victory for big girls everywhere. The bottom is where I didn't agree. I will always protest to Katya being in the bottom two no matter what happened during the episode. She could have refused to do anything and sat quietly in a corner all episode and I still would protest her being in the bottom. And Sasha Fail being in the bottom was stupid too, because she should have gone home last week. It was very traumatic, to say the least. After like seventy three splits, Katya came out victorious, closing the gap between the "throwaway" queens and the top girls. It's a close call this year.
So far I'm loving a lot of queens, but other than Katya, I'm not ready to pick Team Gao just yet. Ginger, Max, and Trixie are all strong competitors for the two remaining spots on my team. Who will come out on top? Let's give it another week, and I'll definitely get back to you.
