It's finally here. The last (sort of) part of the epic Skitszo is among us. This journey has been stretched out over half a year, and it has been a trying ordeal. I mean by that each part has left me so hungry for more, and with the cCarr team's lips zipped shut, we didn't know what to expect. Well thankfully part four is out now, and it has four more songs that are begging to be listened to. Let's take a look, shall we?
To spice things up, let's start with our least favorite foot forward. By this, I mean "Nilly". This may be my least favorite song on the entire Skitszo collection. I can see why someone would like it, but it certainly was not made with her more pop-focused fans in mind. First of all, what even does Nilly mean? For assistance, I turn to Urban Dictionary. Here are some examples: "A British slang; another word for whore." - "A brother and a sister who physically love each other." - "To fondle with. To play with. A toy to have fun with." Take your pick as to which one is the real definition. The song never clearly states what it means. I can say in terms of quality, it is a solid track, but definitely not one she would want to push as a single.
Oddly enough this part also has one of my favorite tracks form cCarr to date on it as well. "Mes Amis (We Can Party)" is really addicting. It does have that rap flavor in it, but it's chorus is so addicting. From the hook onward it sounds like a classic first album S Club 7 song, and I meant that in the best way possible. It has that summer/island feel to it while still having a fun pop party vibe to it. This would be my top pick for a video from this part, but we all know what song will be getting the video treatment here...
And that is "Told You So". Why? Because this features another budding Cherry Cherry Boom Boom artist, Porcelain Black. Thankfully, there was a lot of attention to detail here, as well as a huge genre change for her, pushing her way into rock music here. Porcelain is a great artist who has been missing from the pop scene for a bit, so this song serves as a great re-introduction to her and what she is all about. Her lyrical style fits in well with cCarr, and the "oh no she didnt!" hook is hilarious. My favorite part of the track was where Porcelain and Colette spoke back and forth with each other to discuss that she actually doesn't miss her ex. My only complaint with this song is that the two girls' voices are very similar, so it can often be trouble trying to distinguish who is singing when.
"Who Do You Think You Are" is another unique song, yet it seems to get lost in the mix somehow. It's not bad by any means, but it is neither the best or the worst, so it doesn't seem to be a huge focus. I personally really enjoyed this song, incorporating both Reggae and Ska into a single track. Combine that with Colette's innate ability to make any song into a rap, and you have one of the most odd yet awesome combinations of styles heard on an album in a long time.
While this isn't exactly the end of Skitszo, it is definitely a great gearup. There is a part five, but as far as I know, it's going to be a re-release of all four parts with some bonus tracks. I am expecting the bonus songs to be her previous singles that haven't been on Skitszo yet, but she may surprise me. She has also promised more videos in the future, to which you can bet your ass we will see one for "Told You So."
According to her Facebook, part four landed on the iTunes charts (not sure where, though), so do your part and help it stay there by buying it!
I actually love the way Colette creates words that have no obvious definition (or that can be found in a common search) leaving the listener more room to think up their own.
ReplyDeleteColette wrote in CherryTree Chat that there will be "NO ID", "We Do It Primo", "Back It Up" and new song on Skitso Part 5 :)
