Album Review - The E.P.

My love for Chelsea Korka knows no bounds. From reality TV, to the Paradiso Girls, to her new solo career, I have had my eye on this lady, and I'm so glad that she has finally released her own music. And what's even better is it's very good. She teased us for over a week with these songs, but it was totally worth it. Allow me to delve into "The E.P." by Chelsea Korka.

01. My All

With her best foot forward, "My All" is definitely the stand out track of the album. The club pumping beats never overpower her voice, allowing you to hear every lyric and beautiful note clearly. This song sets the tone for the entire ep, keeping a very distinct electro-pop sound with a pinch of dubstep. The lyrics contain a sweet love song, informing you that she's done waiting and is going to love you with her all now.

02. Big Cheese

This was my least favorite song on the album. Having a more distinct R&B sound to it, like something that might have been on Rihanna's "Rated R." Her voice is remains powerful, but some of the vocal effects on the voice take away from the beauty. The track over all is very dark, including sounds of a gun and some more upfront themes. The big redeeming factor in the song is the dubstep break down. The slapping bass with Chelsea's melodic singing ever so lightly in the background make it all worth while. This song is the dirty side of Korka (think Gaga's "Teeth") and either you like it or you don't.

03. In Love Again

And we do a total 180, as this song is the super sweet side of Chelsea that would rather just hold your hand. The one is like an updated version of teen pop songs that crowded the radio in the late 90s. It is so unbearably cute that it is probably my favorite track on the entire EP. This song fits better with the image of the cute and bubbly girl that her photos and videos paint more-so, and it will definitely get stuck in your head if you let it. "You weren't the first, but you are the best, so I'm here in love again" is already one of the best lyrics of the year, and reins true in any great relationship.

04. Make Me Feel

Pick up the pace and get your body moving with this song. Much more current than the few before it, this song is meant to get you up and moving. This song truly displays Korka's vocal ability, hitting some amazing high notes like a pro, and from someone who came damn close to being a Pussycat Doll, it's something you can expect. The song itself is a confession about letting a guy get under her skin. I love paranoid love songs, and I think this qualifies as she's questioning if he thinks and dreams about her. Creepy! I'm not sure why I like songs like that. Anyway, the dubstep element comes back to smack you in the face with it's bass again, but you may be too busy grinding on some dude to notice.

05. Lost In The Music

One of the focal points of her new movement, this song was obviously meant to be highlighted in this EP. She had been saying "escape to my world", which is in this song. Chelsea wants nothing more to dance her worries away in this song. Well maybe she also wants to use dubstep in another song. Not sure. The song is pretty good, but if it really is the center point of her entire musical revival, I thought it could be a little stronger. It is a fun track, though, and a really nice way to end the extended play.

Chelsea is no doubt an extremely talented singer. She has grown so much musically over the past few years, and it looks like all her hard work is paying off. She has a beautiful new site and this amazing EP. I really wish the best for her, and I can't wait for her debut album. Let's get this lady some radio play, already! You can get "The E.P." on iTunes. It's the cheapest way to revive your music collection for the new year!

EDIT: After a few more listens, I have decided that "Lost In The Music" is an amazing track, and probably the best on the album. The dubstep portions make me dance like an idiot every time, and her voice stays strong throughout. I can see why a lot of her terminology for the new site have been lifted from this song.  I think the reason why I judged it more harshly before was due to it being at the end of an amazing, but exhausting power-pop EP. If placed at the start, I doubt I would have found any flaws.
