Below Deck Season 3 Episode 10 [Review]

If there is one thing I like about Below Deck it's that you never know what is going to happen. People snap mentally, others get fired, and they can go from lovers to enemies in no time flat. I guess that's just how it is living on a small boat for months at a time. But the season is coming to a close very quickly, and it's unclear who will make it all the way to the end.

This episode picked up right where the last one left off. There was a fire in the kitchen, and everybody was panicking. To be fair it was like two in the morning, so people probably weren't in their right mind. Both Eddie and the Captain were called down to deal with the situation, but everyone agreed that the decision could wait until the morning.

The next day, while the charter guests were away (the boys shark diving and the ladies on the beach drinking), Captain Lee called in Kate and Rocky separately to question them. Kate stayed very calm and collected, while Rocky did nothing but badmouth Kate. I honestly feel like if Rocky had kept her cool, the decision that was ultimately made wouldn't have occurred, but what can you do? Rocky has never really followed the grain, so why was I even surprised?

In a surprise twist, Captain called up Leon to question him. His reasoning was that he found that there was no reason other than a dirty oven for the fire to occur. As he questioned Leon, the chef really didn't seem to care. He was very distant and nonchalant. He didn't seem to care at all that it was his kitchen that caught on fire, so of course the Captain told him to hit the road. He did ask him to stay for the final day of the charter, but Leon being the not-so-nice guys he is, left them immediately, with still two meals to go.

Leon leaving sent some of the crew members into a frenzy. He did have his own fan club on board with Rocky and Emile, so understandably, Rocky lost her flipping mind. She said if he was going, so was she, and she hopped off board and caught the attention of a passing ship... who immediately returned her crazy ass back to the Eros. Go figure.

She eventually came around and decided to be the chef for the last night of the charter. Everyone on the crew was nervous, but they had no choice, so they let her do it. She made some hideous mistakes (such as putting cocoa, or Oreos as Kate said, on the vegetables and grenadine on the oysters), but in the end everything ended up ok. Well, I guess I should say the dinner ended up ok. As for everything else revolving around Rocky, it didn't end so well.

First off, Eddie was completely done with her. He said he was embarrassed to have ever hooked up with her. Ouch. Amy had pretty much checked out by the end of the episode, too, and we already know that Kate can't stand her much. Even when Kate was trying to compliment her on stepping up to the plate as chef Rocky fought back. Now all she really has on her side is Emile, who wants in her pants and pretty much nothing else. Things are on a downward spiral for Rocky, but as of now she's hanging on by the thinnest of threads.

Pretty much the only person who wasn't batshit insane this episode was Connie. She was once again shown in a very positive light. The day after the fire, Captain Lee gave Eddie some time to himself and let Connie take up the anchor on her own. She did a very good job and proved that she deserved to be on the boat. Good for her. It was really nice to see something positive come out of this whole mess.

Back with the charter guests, everything kept going wrong. After Rocky's horrible meal (wherein the appetizer made the guest throw up), they found out the cake was messed up on it's delivery to the boat. Luckily Amy is amazing at coming up with ideas on the fly and was able to redecorate a lot of the cake to make it look decent. The guest didn't even seem to notice. They actually were all very happy with the experience and tipped nicely. They went on their way quickly, leaving the crew to deal with the aftermath of their worst charter ever.

That's when Captain Lee called in his favor. Enter Ben.

Ben is no stranger to Below Deck. He was the chef last season, and said that he was unavailable at the beginning of the charter season to help, which is why they went with Leon to begin with. Eddie, Amy, and Kate all worked with him last year, and have positive memories despite the dramatic flashbacks the editors of the show decided to throw in. He had a really positive vibe about him and seemed to be a good influence on the team as a whole. He and Kate had once been an item, but the next few episodes will show whether that will continue or end where they left off.

So we had yet another exit from the yacht. This is our third cast member within ten episodes to get sent packing. It's very clear that Captain Lee does not mess around. I'm not sure how many people got fired mid-charter last year, but this is getting crazy. My faves are still around (Kate and Amy) and they seem to not really be going anywhere, but I hope for the sake of the crew that they don't lose anybody else.

Next week is the long awaited Real Housewives of Atlanta crossover, as well as the welcoming of a new deck hand. With only two charters left, meaning a probable maximum of four more episodes (logically probably three), let's hope this guy isn't fired before the finale.
