Luckily for us all, episode two wasn't entirely Layla centered. I mean a great deal of it was, but not all of it. Things picked up with everyone dealing with the aftermath of Layla's outburst towards Joe in the last episode. It was really awkward that she questioned his wealth, but not everyone was on her side. Of course Courtney was with her, but her good friend Lindsey and her buddy Noah both seemed to sympathize with her. Things don't bode well for her.
There was a lot of blowup between Layla and her boyfriend. During a group workout with drill instructor Courtney, she was paired up with Noah. Being her usual ridiculous self, she made everything over exaggerated and went a little crazy. This pissed her jealous as hell boyfriend off and caused quite a stir. They did end up making up by the end of the episode, but it left a weird taste in my mouth. Layla claims that her relationship is strong, but a healthy, functional relationship doesn't have constant fighting and making up. It was a pretty bad vibe all around.
Lena is quickly becoming one of my favorites for this show. She is really driven and is the one that is really at the lowest point. She needed a lot of help, so she turned to her friend Courtney, someone who she felt closer to apparently. It was cute to see the two develop a friendship, and a huge relief to see that Courtney is only a walking annoying as f**k stereotype when he is around someone other than Layla. He agreed to help her make the next step in her career and boost her website with more photos.
Courtney then turned around to try and get help from the other guys to spice the photos up even more. He immediately asks Noah and Joe if they'd want to be a part of it, and that's were the weirdness began. Noah tried his best to be polite about it, with Joe flat out turning him down as a whole. It was kind of odd to see the group be split up like that, but with the lines being drawn in the metaphorical sand, it seems like Noah may be making his way over to the "Joe" side.
Speaking of photoshoots, we got to see an incredibly cute side of Holly this week. I like the flirty version of Holly in this episode. She was much more bubbly than last week, making for a good rounded out personality. It was a tragedy that the girl she was chasing after, and even made up the need for a photoshoot to get with, ended up being straight. Her reaction was priceless and I am so happy she took it with a big smile on her face and a laugh on her voice instead of going down a darker, sadder route. Holly is a definite class act.
Now for the one I don't care much for. At all. Joe is probably the most annoying person in reality television right now. He's pretty much the Kyle Richards of WONY. If you've read any of my RHOBH reviews you'll know I can't stand her. Actually, I like Kyle more because at least we know where her money comes from. She doesn't try to be mysterious or shady about it all. Her husband is successful and she's from a prominent family. Who is this Joe guy?
Apparently not everyone is seeing past the facade. As I mentioned earlier, Noah has more or less defected to Joe's side. The two of them really bonded over fashion or something. I'm not really sure because I tend to look away from the screen when Joe is on because he's so smug and condescending the entire time. Even after Layla apologized he more or less brushed her off and didn't acknowledge her. Really? This guy can't be wooing anybody, right?
Well, he is wooing one person. Background character (who is weirdly in the opening credits, despite being 100% invisible), Lindsey, has given into his charm fully. The two of them met and he did open up a little bit about his past. He's from a small "white trash" town and he has been running from his past ever since. I figured that he would show his true colors to Lindsey but I guess he was digging her a bit because he was slightly more tolerable here. Or maybe I stopped paying attention again. Who knows?
By the end of the show, everyone has pretty much had it with Noah. He kept repeating something about him protecting his brand, and it took sweetheart Holly to remind him that she was in his position not long ago. As much as I can't stand Layla and Courtney through most of the show, they are both right when they say that it takes a group and support to make it, and Noah leaving Lena high and dry because he's protecting himself and his "brand" is a load of crap. I guess when Lena is a megastar and he is in the dust, he'll be back to begging for help.
The show has played it off like everyone (sans Joe) has been friends for ages, but to see the appearance of one man split this close nit group is hard to take in. I know that it makes for good TV, but it still hurts to think of how they all are losing touch with one another. The season is still starting up, so it can go either way. These next few weeks will be trying for the group, but a season two looks very promising from the early reception and great two episodes so far.
