The episode starts out in the Punkyard weirdly enough. We see that our lovely host Ms. Mai awaiting them next to Thomas (who finally is wearing a different outfit), and Matt. As usual, they waste no time getting down to business about this week's challenge. They are going to have to flip one of four vehicles into a post-apocalyptic masterpiece, along with an outfit to go with it. They were making a garage.
This episode was very much like the last one in that the teams were exactly the same, minus Charles who went home last week. JW was top maker last week, and he picked Ave. Regardless of who was at the top, we all know who the teams would have been. It was pretty obvious that there was a disconnect between Ave/JW and Morgan/Eddie. Before they go, the judges also say that nobody is safe. Being on the winning team won't mean you have immunity.
One thing that I noticed about the show lately is that it seems like they have changed the focus of the show a bit. Sure it still has a lot of drama, but for the past few weeks, we have seen much more of the "making". This was a big gripe from both the steampunk community as well as causal watchers. We all want to see them working on the amazing projects that we will eventually see the final results of. I don't know if they changed it in editing after the first few episodes aired or if they had less drama due to less contestants left so they went more for that instead.
That's not to say that there is no drama going on at all. As a matter of fact, there is some unforeseen stuff that went down this week. For example, Ave is once again at odds with someone, this time being JW. But the weird part of it al is that Ave isn't exactly mad at him, but he seems to be accidentally overshadowing her. They had both agreed last week that Miss Morgan needed to go, but the notion of "nobody is safe" really didn't resinate with JW very well. He completely threw out her idea and put her solely on making outfits. Not only that, but also he made things a big difficult for her by switching back stories, rendering much of her already finished worked useless.
On the other team, things seemed to be going good for a while, that is until Kato came through to talk to everyone. She stressed to Miss Morgan to get out of her outfit design box and work on parts of the room and the machine. This caused her to get her hands dirty a bit and work on parts of the room and neglect her seamstress work a bit. That pissed Eddie off, of course, causing a big blowup. Things were pretty quickly resolved, and Morgan knows that Eddie can be raging one minute and fine the next, so she overlooked most of it.
Lucky for both teams, even with their small numbers, they were able to get things done, and just in time too, because the three days went by in a flash. It was now up to the judges who was going to go or stay.
Much to my excitement the guest judge is a man who rivals Thomas's sexiness, Mr. Glenn Hetrick from the amazing show Face Off. He apparently is a big fan of steampunk, and I don't know anybody who wasn't excited to see him on this episode. But anyway, onto the judgement!
Team JW - I'm sorry to say it but I hated this room. For the first time on the show I couldn't find much good to say about one of the rooms they put together. Despite what the judges said, I feel like the vehicle looked half finished and not executed well. The costumes were not anywhere near close to Ave's best, and the story was a huge jumble of nonsense. The worst part of it all was the background, being a big mess that looked more like a garage sale than a garage shop. The only saving grace of the room was the gun, and it was such a small part of the room that it wasn't enough to save it.
Team Eddie - On the complete flip side of this, we have one of my favorite rooms of the season. There was a lot of attention to detail in the room itself, even if the hovercraft wasn't as well fleshed out (and that purple drapery? ugh). Miss Morgan really pulled it out this week with the costumes, having one of the best looks she's done all season. No question at all, these two win this week.
The judges tried really hard to make it look like they hadn't already made up their minds, but it was pretty clear to me that they knew from the second the contestants left the room. They called them back in and quickly announced JW as second place, and Miss Morgan as first. I really don't care much for Morgan, but I have to give credit where it's due, and she really did an amazing job this week. She deserved this win.
On the bottom we were left with two of the best contestants this show has to offer -- Ave and Steampunk Eddie. Unfortunately it was time for Ave to go, despite me having picked her as the winner of the whole show. I really hated seeing her go, but she won't be gone for long. Next week everyone's back to help the final three. Who do you think is going to win? Steampunk Eddie, JW, or Miss Morgan?
