RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 Episode 9 [Review]

Trixie is back! And for those who don't know that already well friggen spoiler alert to you. That happened last week so no complaining. It's our second week in a row of having a final seven, and we didn't even get a no-elimination episode! Holy cow! Well there's only room for six ladies next week, so we will have to see who Ru sends packing today. Care to join me?

The episode barely starts and already everyone is obsessing over what happened last week. Ginger got her first brush with elimination by being in the bottom two, and it's definitely her wakeup call. No more coasting. She is now refocused on being a top player. Meanwhile, everyone is mad that Trixie has come back. They were all expecting a top six, not a reorganized top seven. The mood is not good in the work room.

Soon enough Ru pops up on the TV that used to say offensive transgender slurs but now says something that barely makes sense (I know it's a Ru quote but still), and drops a bunch of musical hints to them, but when he shows up, the entire theme is changed. It's time for everybody's other other favorite challenge -- the library! It's time for everyone to read their fellow castmates.

There were some obvious standouts. We all knew that Katya and Ginger would have a lot to say because, well, they always do. It had been a good while since I had heard Trixie crack some jokes, but I had a feeling that she would do decent. The big surprise was Violet, who has completely transformed since day one of being a huge brat to being funny and almost likable. On the other end of the spectrum Kennedy struggled a bit to get laughs, and Miss Fame just fell right on her face. Pearl was almost at the bottom, too, until she tried reading Ru.

After Trixie is announced the winner and informed that it really only got her a gift card and no real advantage in the upcoming main challenge, Ru announces that they are doing yet another acting and singing challenge. Much like how season three was sewing challenge after sewing challenge, this season is all about acting. Because, you know, making dresses, doing good makeup, and having dance skills have nothing to do with being a multifaceted drag queen. Not at all.

They are going to be recreating scenes from John Waters films that he did with the great drag superstar Divine. The pair had worked together on a lot of different movies, bringing drag to the forefront for one of the first times in media history. They were allowed to split themselves into teams (Trixie/Ginger, Katya/Kennedy, and Pearl/Fame/Violet), and each were given a script to take iconic scenes such as "Eggs", "Cha Cha Heels" and "Poo." Joy. Of course we are inviting Lucian Piane back for this challenge, because, well, we don't have to pay him most likely.

In the studio the only team that really crushed it was Katya and Kennedy. Sure they highlighted Kennedy messing up a few lines, but Katya was so genius that it made it a million times better. Kennedy did pull her weight, though. Ginger and Trixie didn't go as smoothly, though. Their looks were down, but they had a bit of trouble pushing things over the top like Divine always did. Team Pearl/Fame/Violet was bad. Let's leave it at that.

Either there was no workroom drama or it was just too mind-numbingly boring to mention, because I don't have a single thing written down for them here. Oh well. Shall we move onto the runway, then?

Category is: That dress is hideous!

Kennedy Davenport - Yes! She needs to stop being so pageanty and be funny. She does it so well! She is giving us grandma goes to church REALNESS! This is my favorite look from Kennedy all season, and one of the top looks for the entire group of girls so far. Not. Even. Kidding.
Katya - Girl Cochella was last week! This looks like something an idiot hipster would wear. For serious. I do think it fits the theme well, and as always, Katya makes it fun and funny.
Ginger Minj - They finally gave this girl a break and put up a runway theme that she could nail! Her fashion has always been a bit of a flop, so she already had this one in the bag. And on top of it all, she wore green just for Michelle!
Trixie Mattel - She looks like she's ready for the 1986 high school prom! If this were thirty years ago, it would be the best dress ever, but thankfully we have evolved since then in the fashion world. It fits the theme well, and she wears it well.
Pearl - Girl this was an ugly dress competition! Why you up there lookin like a cute Harajuku lady? She missed the mark, even if she looks good doin' it.
Violet Chachki - I LOVE this dress. It's so ugly, but the girl knows how to model a gown, and she makes us want it. That is a true talent, and she deserves to be recognized for it! Go gurl! Get it!
Miss Fame - No, gurl. It's an ugly dress theme, not a bed spread theme. Remember what happened to the last queen who wore a bed spread?

The musical numbers were all kind of meh. Katya and Kennedy have a lot of chemistry together, and I believe they really should have worked as a team more. Everyone was gushing over Ginger as the adult baby in her "Eggs" scene, but I was actually really bored. And looking back at the Pearl team fiasco all I have written down in my notes is "why?". Ouch.

Ru pull the devil's advocate, and asks everyone who they think should go home. In a hilarious and sad turn of events, the vast majority of the girls gang up on Miss Fame, saying they don't think she is on the same level as the rest of them. Violet turns on Trixie to say that since she's been brought back she needs to be number one or go home. Miss Fame, backed into a corner, goes for the weakest link, which is Pearl who has a stigma for "not wanting to be here".

When it comes to the tops and bottoms, nobody is surprised. After Katya is announced safe, I think everyone knew it was Ginger that took the win. The entire "Poo" team is at the bottom, with Violet being saved mostly by her amazing runway. That leaves Pearl and Fame in the bottom. Pearl 100% outshines Miss Fame to keep herself in the competition. Miss Fame, the New York makeup goddess, is sent home.
