The Reunion
Is it just me or was this reunion not as eventful as most are? I feel kind of jipped this year. There were a couple of screaming matches, but for the most part everyone kept their cool. Even Lisa R, who I think everyone thought would fly off the handle again about her husband. I don't really like how they set things up, either. Each of the three episodes focused on attacking one person. First Brandi, then Kim, and finally Kyle. For 45 minutes, we sat and watched each of these women get picked apart, while the rest of the cast were asked filler questions.
What got me the most was Kim's silent accusations. It brings to mind things that have happened in the franchise before, such as New Jersey when Danielle claimed that Teresa didn't speak with her brother's family in one reunion and it was tackled in another season. I really think that whatever it is that Kim knows or doesn't know about Lisa Rinna's husband and the true story behind the dog bite incident will come to light sometime next season.
There wasn't as much "off camera" talk as usual, which seems to be a conscious effort for them to avoid discussing. Most reunions have wives shouting about what happened off camera or things that they said to each other in private. Aside from some texts and a few other short bits, they stayed mostly to what we had seen. I really liked hearing about the behind the scenes.
We had a couple of housewives fall behind here, too. Lisa Vanderpump took a large back seat to all the drama. She continued her IDGAF attitude from the season and for the most part stayed out of the drama unfolding. She really does seem to be on a level above them; interesting but still level headed. The other lady who didn't get much attention was Eileen. Honestly she didn't have much going on in the show so they didn't have much to talk to her about. She did hash out the whole "beast" issue with Kim but other than that she was invisible. An honorable mention goes out to Yolanda who was only present for a few moments before she felt unsafe to continue due to her spike in her medical condition.
The Return List
Who is the most likely to return? Well let's take a look, shall we?
Kim Richards - Kim has to return. She set up so much stuff for next season that if she left they would have to completely restructure.
Kyle Richards - As much as I can't stand her, I feel like she needs to be there to keep Kim's struggles a reality. We need to physically see what is going on. Sad to say but without Kyle, Kim would be a bit of a flop for a character.
Yolanda Foster - I can't see her continuing. I feel like she may be demoted (albeit temporarily) to "Friend of the Housewives" while she is recovering. Seeing her at the reunion made it clear that she isn't well enough to star in another season this year.
Lisa Vanderpump - As much as I love her, I don't see why she continues being on the show. She's got three huge restaurants, and a show where she makes nearly as much money to do 1/3 the work she does on this one. That and she just seems over all the petty drama. This one is up in the air for me.
Brandi Glanville - I want her to stay on the show, but after butting heads with Andy Cohen who is essentially her boss numerous times, it looks like she may not be invited back. There are rumors every year that she's getting fired, but we will see. I think if she goes, Kim will feel cornered like she has nobody to film scenes with.
Lisa Rinna - Everybody knows she is here to stay. Everyone has been talking about her and she stole the show this year. Getting rid of Rinna would be a huge idiotic mistake. Dr. Rinna for president!
Eileen Davidson - I love her, but she didn't really make a splash. She was funny in her interviews, but she wasn't involved in any of the drama at all. She had next to zero storylines and she really just didn't mesh with the group very well aside from Rinna. I think she's an obvious choice to go.
The New Girl List
So if we have a few housewives going, who should replace them? While I'm not a huge expert on the ladies of Beverly Hills, and I'm sure they can pull someone out of the woodworks, we've seen quite a few women featured as side characters on the show that can step it up.
Kathy Hilton - There hasn't been a more obvious choice as a housewife in ever. After a season of her making cameo after cameo, and having Kim declare she's a better sister than Kyle, it looks like now may be the time for Kathy to step up and take on a bigger role in the show. She's already said she feels like the two have fallen apart, so maybe she would be able to help them get together again.
Camille Grammar - We need Camille back. And now with the recent trend of housewives returning left and right, Camille is the strongest candidate. She seems far more put back together, and the wives of BH even said in an outtake from the reunion that she would be their top pick to return.
Shiva Safai - This woman has been rumored to be on the show every year and I hope to see it come true. She is beautiful and charming and I feel like she can really claw her way into this group of women.
Final Final Thoughts
This season was crazy. It had a lot of ups and downs, and it had one of the most hellacious group vacations in the history of the franchise. It was a fun ride, and I'm sure they will find even more insanity for next year. Let's look forward to the craziness and hope that somewhere along the way this show helps the families involved come back together.
