(Warning: Spoilers. Also, this is for two episodes, so it's a loooong post.)
We start the season out with the ladies coming back to check out the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. I thought this was a strange way to start out the season, but given the area they live in being the main place hit by the storm, it was a bit heartwarming. Hardest hit was Melissa. Their second house was in shambles.
Teresa's second home was hit hard as well, but given the awkwardness between her and her husband, it was not exactly a fun experience to watch. Joe saw it as an enterprise to boost his business, which was a little sad. She reveals in the same segment that she's not heard from her brother, Melissa's husband, since the storm. She still seems very genuine to want a relationship there. I still have hopes for the two of them. Joe, on the other hand, says that Teresa hasn't called him either. Sad.

Teresa is really recovering from her meltdown last season. Her daughter Milania sat down with her to discuss their family situation. I think this is the reason why I had such a hard time last season getting through it all.
Now time for a Jacqueline segment. Her storyline is still about her son having autism. I don't mean to seem insensitive, but this really clashes with the rest of the stories. Everyone else seems intertwined, but she is off on her own. I honestly didn't think she would return this season after her multiple breakdowns last season, but we have her again. It is nice to see some normalcy in all this chaos of a show.
Melissa's story for the first part of this season is the same as it's always been. She wants to bring the family back together. The twist this time is she doesn't wanna be friends with Teresa, but she doesn't want to stop the kids from being friends. Her daughter sends a letter to Teresa's daughter. How can that be a bad thing?
Now we FINALLY get some Kathy. And to boot, Rosie's there. I loooove this lady. Kathy is my favorite of the housewives. I hope this season she veers off on her own this season instead of being another part of the Teresa movement.
The letter from Antonia gets there, and Teresa actually didn't freak out. I am actually very surprised. Gia is growing up into a bitter person, which is very sad. Teresa, in her own twisted way, thinks that it was Melissa's idea of how to apologize to her.
I've really lost my love for Caroline really has been lost over the past two years. She has become very bitter and mean, especially last season. She's starting off well this year, but we don't get to see much of her due to the Teresa drama.
My heart is torn. I love both Melissa and Teresa, but with Teresa being so delusional with the elements of her family. She seems to have this deep rooted feeling that Melissa is never on her side, so she has to take the offense before she goes for her. It's childish, but I can't help but love her.
As usual, Caroline, who says she doesn't want any part of the drama, goes to Jacqueline and talks to her about it. Jaqueline is obviously uncomfortable with it. I am bothered because she keeps saying she wants no part of it, but she butts her way in at every chance. If she didn't want to hear it, she should have either told them to shut up at her apartment, or diverted the subject.
The drama in this episode is centered around the playdate. Teresa and Melissa argued over who was taking the kids until they both decided to take them together. How can this possibly backfire? It was so cute to see the two girls excited to see each other.
Caroline asks Melissa's Joe out for coffee to get in the middle of their business again. She says that they don't need to let their kids keep the grudge for them. Yawn.
Of course a fight breaks out at the kid's play date. This time it's over communion for their kids, which happen to be the same day. Teresa decides to be the "bigger person" by changing her day.
Back at the Caroline/Joe date, she begins to bully him into making up again. She says they need to keep their fighting private, and she even says she'll go talk to Teresa. This seems awkwardly fake and forced. I know there have been some coincidences on this show, but none so obvious as this.
EPISODE TWO
The first episode was a bit underwhelming compared to premiers from past seasons. I guess they didn't want to start off with the intense craziness of the past. The second episode starts very slowly, too, with dinner for Teresa and the kids. They are making cards for Teresa's dad who needs a pacemaker. It was a little heartbreaking to hear the trails her father has had to go through.
Melissa's house gets a visitor. Their realtor is visiting to go over some of the things about selling their house. Six months later and they have no buyers. He claims they can't find a buyer for the price they want, but Melissa says she can't cut corners. They supposedly have people coming to look at it, but it doesn't seem possible now.
Caroline's sister Fran is living in her house, and seems to be this season's first "Friends of the Housewives". She has a tiny dog with her that is ugly as sin. Her sister seems nice, but was only on screen for all of ten seconds before they shooed her away. Caroline then reveals that she's following through with her plans to chat with Teresa and their kids.Once again, I say "How can this POSSIBLY backfire?"
A rare treat it seems is to see Kathy. She gets one segment per episode due to her not being as close to Teresa or Melissa now. She is self involved with her family, and here is teaching her son to drive. Kathy is seriously my favorite housewife. Her husband Rich is hilarious, too, even if he can be obnoxious sometimes. Can we just get a Kathy spinoff already so we can have a full hour of her being hilarious?
Another rarity that is less of a treat, is to see Jacqueline. She is starting her own video series about raising a kid with autism. She is interviewed by a woman from Parenting magazine, and talks about her son and her struggles with his condition. She talks about all the stuff she went through behind the scenes during the last season. They chose not to bring it about until after the season was done filming. The whole situation is depressing, but the two parents are solid, and I think this is definitely something they can handle.
And suddenly Kim D appears. I completely thought that after the wedge she drove between Teresa and Melissa last year, that she would be tossed aside. Teresa gets the Caroline text, and she claims she doesn't hold a grudge... and then immediately say she hates when she lectures her. Sounds like a grudge to me. Kim decides to interject into the situation and talk to Caroline, too. HOW CAN THIS BACKFIRE!?
Hilariously enough, Teresa thinks Caroline is going to apologize to her. Her Joe says that is all she should put up with. She says she doesn't have any hatred for Caroline, but I doubt that. As usual, Joe seems to fuel the fire between the siblings. As seen last year, its obvious that he doesn't wanna be a part of the family, and he's keeping Teresa from it too.
Kathy gets another segment this episode! She and Rich go and visit her daughter Victoria at college. It gets Kathy a little down because she didn't go to school. She's proud of her daughter, but sad for her own life. Rich cuts up and tries to make light of it, but it seems to annoy Kathy.
Caroline gets a private room at a restaurant to meet with Teresa. Caroline looks SUPER serious the whole time, which has me cracking up. Two minutes in and Teresa draws the claws. Caroline seems very genuine with her, and actually seems less like she's butting in and more like she's actually needed. Maybe she's changed her mind. Teresa tries to bring up Dina and tell her to mind her own business. I feel both sides, but it's hard to see who's right.
Kim D's name comes up, and I had the same concern. Why is Teresa friends with her still after she ruined what they spent a year building? Jacqueline gets brought into the picture, too.
Meanwhile at Jacqueline's literally everyone else on the show is getting together. Even Rosie is there, which is always a treat. She goes down and plays poker with the boys. They immediately lay in with the lesbian questions. They tell her she has to try a guy, where Rich replies to Joe that he should try taking one in the butt. Touche. I'll volunteer to pop that cherry!
Jacqueline gets her wish to hear her son say "I Love You" for the first time in over a year and a half. It was a heartwarming moment, which seems to be all we are getting from Jacqueline. Keep the tears of joy coming. She's been through some stuff, and she deserves it.
Back with Caroline/Teresa, they start talking about Teresa's dad. She gives her some tough love, and it looks like we are starting to seeing that they might possibly be friends again one day. Teresa agrees to meet half way, but she doesn't seem to be too genuine with it.
My opinion on the show so far:
It's pretty slow. Once again we have domination by Teresa and Melissa drama with the other cast members trying to edge their way in. I know that not all of the episodes can be knock-down drag-out fights like last season, but I really hope the show picks up the pace soon. From the looks of the season trailer, they will shortly.
