A couple of weeks back, I chose Dragonette's newest single as Song of the Week because it was catchy and a breath of fresh air. Now, they have released an official music video for the track. Check out "Let It Go" the official video from Dragonette.
While the video doesn't exactly add anything to the song's meaning, it does make for an interesting trip. Martina is kidnapped off the street and subjected to several experiments and examinations. The rest of the crew are the doctors who are putting her through the wringer.
Mixed in with the somewhat disturbing segments are bits where Martina, along with a few other people, are being observed in a yellow tinted room dancing their hearts out. I couldn't get over Martina's new mullet. I'm not sure why, but it really bothered me. Well that, combined with the awkward petting of a bunny through a wall.
To be honest, I don't really get the video. It's amusing, and the dancing segments are great, but I'm not sure what is going on exactly. I am just glad to see that the old Dragonette is back. They had been laying low for the past couple of years, only releasing some remixes and a couple of individual, non-single tracks.
Like it? Hate it? Understand it? Comment and let me know.
Love the weird. Just go with it. I also like the messy hair... there are reasons people with messy hair are so happy
ReplyDeleteperhaps an animal research lab awarness video- she talks about "fixing" or "curing" the weight of the world...perhaps speaking in terms of letting research lab animals go as well as the weight of the world? Interesting light she shed on research labs- regardless the meaning of the song. I love her!
ReplyDeleteYeah the video makes no sense but it's cool,at the start I was like OH A BUNNY!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think the video is showing a drug companies unethical research of an antidepressant drug. Martina looks very out of it and unhappy at the start, but then while dancing she is injected with something from a gas tank, which suddenly makes her super energetic and happy. She is shown images on the TV, a lot of which seem to be very positive, and then she gets to pet the bunny, which she clearly enjoys. Then the scientists are testing the various batches they used on the subjects and refining the drug to get something they can sell.
ReplyDeleteAll of this combined with the lyrics talking about letting go of the "weight of the world" makes me think the video is about depression. Maybe not the clinical condition, but the depressed and gloomy attitude they see in society today. The song says we don't need a cure for the weight if the world, but the scientists are trying to find one. Dragonette is telling people to just forget it all and get up and dance and "let it go".
