Vanderpump Rules Season 4 Episode 6 [Review]

Are you guys ready for an episode that isn't all bout Kristen? Well you'll finally get your wish. As much as I love the crazy lady, it's time for some other's to take the spotlight. This one's all about Lala, so buckle down and get ready to be really, really confused as to who is doing who and what and where and this sentence has lost it's grip on reality. Now to the review!

There was a whole lot of crazy going down in this episode, so let's start out with the least so. We really got to see a good bit of the evolution of Scheana and Shay's relationship from this season's revolution. Last we really saw Scheana was telling him he had to pass drug tests (minus weed) in order to stay married to her. It looked like she lightened up a bit this week, though. Shay was a much more chipper person in general. Scheana really seemed to be back in denial, but who am I to judge, really?

To help him out, The Toms took out Shay to a gym to teach him some sort of weird Brazilian mashup exercising bit. It was a very amusing sight to see as the instructor had them grind against the ground like they were "making love" or whatever. Shay may have pushed himself a tad bit too hard, though, as he ended up throwing up outside. Overall it was probably the best step forward for Shay outside of his marriage. Being healthy and being sober go hand in hand.

There was a bit of talk about how Shay felt neglected by Scheana and how she doesn't listen to him, but it was a bit overshadowed by talk of Schwartz's proposal. I know it was such a small part of the episode, but this is building up into something really big, and with him keeping the whole thing under wraps, it's definitely going to be a major part of the season. I did appreciate that Schwartz did back off a bit, realizing that this moment wasn't all about him after all.

It was gay pride this episode! Gay pride is always a big deal on Vanderpump Rules, mainly because Lisa Vanderpump has become a West Hollywood gay icon. Last year her party was pretty lackluster and not even a fraction of what it had been the two seasons before. This year she decided that both Pump and Sur would get killer parties, and I'm glad she did so. These parties look like so much fun, and with DJ James heading up Pump, it was obviously a hit.

And Jax, of course, got wasted. Again. Earlier in the episode he showed his usual two-faced head again by befriending Scheana after last week saying milk could last longer than her marriage. Scheana is a bit smarter than people give her credit for, however, because she used the situation to flip it over on Jax, asking him why he was so jealous of James. And that's just it -- Jax has been falling from grace over the past few years, and he is definitely losing his edge.

Jax spent most of the time hitting on Lala, and that's when my attention turned to who else but Shay. He showed up at gay pride at Sur at Scheana's request. Isn't this guy a recovering alcoholic and drug addict? He said that the drinking was nowhere near as bad as the drugs, but being around all that booze while on the path to recovery must have been hard. And to make things worse, Scheana says she doesn't want him to be completely sober. I'm not sure if she understands how an addiction works, but if she keeps exposing him to these situations, he might not ever get better. I really feel for this man. He's simply sticking his neck out for the woman he loves and she's unknowingly trapping him in the same cycle.

It's with James and Lala where things really went to hell this week. Despite calling her a bitch last week, Lala still wanted to make music with him. The demo they played out actually sounded pretty good, believe it or not, and things were looking up between them. Unfortunately Lala is a complicated person who doesn't even know what she herself wants and ended up saying that she didn't care if James hooked up with other girls because she didn't want a relationship. Now instead of being persistent and working on her, James, the big idiot, goes out and has sex with the first girl he can find. Oh of course she'd be at Sur.

He showed up with scratch and bit marks at Sur and everyone was talking instantly. Lala got jealous and was comforted by one of her coworkers named Lauren. Before long Kristen showed up uninvited and perpetuated the situation more by wanting to know who it was. Everyone had assumed it was Lala, but when she denied it, things started to get a bit heated. Of course Kristen only stuck around long enough to stir the pot and then stepped back to see what would happen.

After some intense questioning, Lala finally got it out of James that it was Lauren, her friend who had told her to let the situation go, that he had slept with. This, of course set her off, big time. Not one to be the fool, Lala decided the most mature and respectable thing to do would be to go and tell Lauren's boyfriend what happened in the middle of a huge party. I'm sure Lisa's going to love this one. After breaking the fourth wall multiple times with Lauren demanding her talk with her boyfriend not be on camera, things really started to boil over, and with that the episode came to a swift close.

I have to say I really felt for Lala this week. I started off really hating her and really liking James, but in a matter of weeks the whole situation has flipped. Up until her explosive moment at the end of the show, Lala was actually the least dramatic of the group. Hell, even after her huge angry blow up she still may be the least dramatic. She really screwed up by hooking up with James, but her other option, Jax, isn't really the best either. To be frank, Lala is in a tough spot either way.

There are lots of fun things coming up with this show. I can't wait to see what plans Schwartz has in store for Katie, and there's obviously the return of the Pump Rules queen herself Stassi. Season four has yet to disappoint, and I doubt it will for the rest of it's run. Are you tuning in?
