Below Deck Season 3 Episode 13 [Finale Review]

The end is here! After a crazy charter season, everything is coming to a head. It looks as if most of the drama that has happened so far this season has been building up to this point. There has been lots of stuff going on behind these scenes, and it's about to all come to light. There's also a little tidbit about the upcoming spinoff. Can you dig it?

Things this episode picked up immediately where last week had left off. Rocky had just confessed about her love affair with Eddie to her not-so-trustworthy friend Emile. This news made Emile incredibly angry, and he ran out of the room. The editing from last week made it look as though he was going to tell Eddie off, but instead he went to blow off steam alone. That is probably for the best because they have one more tip to get with this charter. He might as well have toughed it out for one more day.

One of the things I really liked seeing this season was the friendship that grew between Kate and Amy. It was probably born out of necessity for picking up the slack for Rocky being inexperienced, but something definitely clicked between the two. What's better is that Kate seems genuine about the whole thing. She has a habit of putting on a smile, and then turning around in the interviews and showing her true colors. This was different though. She really feels close to Amy and is planning on keeping up with her after the charter is over.

The best news to come out of the episode was when Connie was called up to meet with Captain Lee. She was understandably nervous about the whole thing, as one usually is in big trouble when they get called into a meeting solo with the captain. Fortunately for her, it was all good news. Captain Lee was so impressed with her during this charter season, he offered her a job on his next set of charters in the Mediterranean. It was unclear if this means that she (and by default Captain Lee) will be cast members on the upcoming spinoff Below Deck Mediterranean, but the mention seems to be a bit too coincidental to me. A release date for this new show hasn't been announced, nor any cast, but now that the show is over, I'm guessing we are about to find out (probably at the reunion for this season).

During the final night of the last charter, Chef Ben cut his finger very badly during the preparations or their final meal. While Eddie was able to patch him up, he lost use in his left hand for a while, resulting in him gathering up some help from the crew. He chose Rocky, who, to be fair, has had culinary training. She wasn't doing so hot due to her being distracted by the Eddie situation. It also didn't help that Ben was barking orders at her harshly for most of the time.

It was Amy who really saved the day. She pulled her aside to talk about how she was doing. Amy is quite frankly the nicest person Ive ever seen on a reality TV show. She's almost too sweet for this line of work. Luckily she made it through to Rocky, reminding her that being in the galley was something she longed for all season long. Rocky perked back up long enough to finish out making the meal and finish out the charter for the sake of the guests.

Before too long the guests were on their way, and the crew was left to deal with the aftermath. Captain Lee called them all into the crew's quarters to disperse the tip. For those who had been on the boat all season, they were making serious bank. Unfortunately for Ben and Dave who had only recently joined them, they didn't get as big a piece of the pie. There was a sweet moment with Kate thanking everyone on the crew, and being very genuine. There was also a bit where Rocky apologized to both Kate and Amy for being inexperienced. All together, it was a good end to a charter season. Captain Lee said the boat owners were throwing them a beach party later that night to celebrate the end of a great year.

Unfortunately although the charters were done, the drama wasn't. This whole time Emile had been very moody. Amy worried he might confront Eddie, so in good spirits, she decided to go and warn Eddie that a conflict might be on the horizons. Unfortunately not only did Eddie flat out deny that he had slept with Rocky, but also he got very angry and stormed off to her room. She had barricaded herself inside, and refused to let anyone in. So what does the brute do? He grabs a pair of scissors and pays her door open.

I don't exactly like Rocky, but I felt very bad for her. She had everyone watching as Eddie made her out to be a liar. What's worse is as viewers, we knew that Eddie was actually the liar, but one by one the other crew members heard about the events and thought Rocky had made it all up. The one time she isn't acting crazy and nobody buys it. It was a hard scene to watch. The only person who continued to have her back through all of this was Emile. Not even Amy was sure who was telling the truth any more.

After hiding in her bed for a good while, Amy, the overwhelming voice of reason on this crew, finally convinced her to go out and enjoy the party on the beach. The girls all got dressed up and made their way over to the festivities, but a change of location didn't really solve anything. Both Rock and Eddier were both very moody and ruining the night for everyone around them. It was about time the two had a talk.

I was unsure if things would ever be resolved within the season, but just when I thought things couldn't get any more awkward, Eddie casually walked up to the group of his friends and coworkers and announced that he and Rocky did indeed have sex. Everyone was really upset with him for lying to them the whole time, but nobody more so than Captain Lee. I think that the comments from the captain were what set things back into motion, because the calm didn't last for long. He suddenly started apologizing to Rocky, but in his apology he mentioned that she was a mistake. Of course knowing Rocky this was made a big deal, and caused another argument, leaving the situation yet again in a state of unresolve.

The rest of the episode was everyone saying their farewells (except for Connie who stayed put). It was kind of hard to see everyone leave. I wanted more out of this show in the end. Emile followed Rocky to California, Kate decided to buy a car, and Ben decided to finally let Kate go. There is still a lot of things that need to be talked about, but seeing as there's more than likely a reunion coming up, I will hold those comments for now.

I picked up reviews of Below Deck on a bit of a whim. The show I wanted to review got pushed back, and this was something that caught my eye. It took quite a while to grow on me, but here at the end of  it all, I am really glad I made the decision I did. I know that out of all the Bravo shows, this one has the most revolving door of cast members, but I'm hoping that next year has a few familiar faces. And who knows, maybe I'll be reviewing the spin off, too. There's so much more of this show in store for this blog, and I hope you all keep reading.

  1. I watched the show for the past 10 years on and off. I decided a while ago to rewatch in episode order, marathon style. Yes that meant going throgh the agonizing section of The Rocky Horror Center of The Universe Picture Show. YES Eddie was wrong but he was very clear he didn't want anyone to know about him and Rocky, that shoukd of told her where she stood right there and I feel it's on her that she participated in the affair without regard to hoe Eddie was obviously embarrassed by her. Kate is hard and demanding of perfection but TIPS (which is a huge part of being a yahtie) depend on the guest being blown away by perfection.Rockie seems to think only her in a mermaid costume rolling around like a dead fish was responsible for guest happiness and big tips. Way to make the world about you Rocky. You are an egomaniac insane mess. Stop making everything about you all the time.
