Below Deck Season 3 Episode 7 [Review]

It's official. I have developed the weirdest Love-Hate relationship with this show. I really love it because of all the insanity that happens and all he great reality tv personalities it has spawned, but I also really hate it because they focus the most on the more boring of the drama. I wanna see more of certain things, but instead what I get is a whole episode of Kate and Leon hating each other. I'll try to make it more interesting than that, but that's pretty much the whole episode.

Please keep reading anyway.

This episode picked up right where the last one left off with Rocky and Emile at each other's throats more of less. The reaction I really wanted from Rocky's note last week was shown here, and it was everything I had dreamed of. Emile was crushed and very defensive and completely blew off dealing with the rest of his crew mates. He told Rocky she should have just told him... Which she did. Multiple times, actually. So obviously he is an idiot that can't even comprehend the most basic of sentences. Dude. She told you to think of her as a sister. What more do you need?

We also had a bit of a struggle with Dane this episode. He had a lot of missteps, but perhaps the most baffling was that he was staying up all night talking to his girlfriend. Just last episode, he was all over Rocky trying to get with her. Connie made sure this week that Rocky knew about Dane's girlfriend, and yet again Rocky had lost in the line of love. She was down three men now, and running out of meat on the boat.

As usual, Captain Lee gathered together the key staff to go over the charter guests. This time around it's a brother and sister as a family vacation. Let it be known right here and now that the captain does mention that the guests are foodies. Whether or not that comes back to bite Leon in the butt or not is still up in the air, but the captain said it, and it's there on tape forever, so there's that. The guests actually had a really good time with going out on the sea until a squall comes through and messed everything up. Fortunately they all got back to the boat safely.

As I mentioned earlier, Dane has proven himself to be the most useless person on the boat, probably ever. He messed up so many times this episode, it was hard to gather them all into one place. Let's start by talking about how he was on anchor watch. This means that when the weather is bad, someone must stay up all night and keep watch on the radar to make sure the winds aren't dragging the boat and stressing the anchor line. Simple enough, right? Well Dane thought it was a good idea to leave his post only a couple of hours into the shift, to go and flirt with Amy and Kate. First off, neither of them are going to want him, and second off, he had a job to do. The Captain was already off put by him, so he wasn't helping himself at all here.

Then, as if things weren't already bad for him, when he was told to go and get the jet ski and bring it back onboard, he messed up again. Instead of breaking, he pressed down on the throttle and rammed the ski right into the side of the boat. Luckily it looks like there wasn't much damage, but it was enough for Captain Lee to call a meeting with him. I thought for sure he was going to be fired, but instead he got more of a wakeup call. He did spend pretty much the entire time staring blankly at Captain Lee, which was not a good sign at all. I don't see him lasting much longer, to be frank.

The meat of this episode was the beef (get it? It's a pun!) between Kate and Leon. Kate was getting fed up with Leon's attitude, as well as his lack of diversity with making Beef Cheeks every damned charter. Leon took it upon himself to wrangle the guests together and ask them wha they wanted for dinner for their fancy taste-testing wine party, and this lead to him being the primary planner for the meal. This was not good for Kate because, well, she's the one who has to bare the front of the guests anger if things aren't on time.

And wouldn't you know it, Leon wasn't on time. He spent a lot of the episode complaining, and refused to tell Kate anything in advance so she could plan accordingly. I really feel bad for Kate here because she is the one that got the heat from the guests when dinner was several hours late. Leon blamed it on the fact that the guests weren't specific on their request list they provided, but we've seen Kate pull off some crazy stuff before, so it's not exactly an excuse.

The dinner was late, and given the Captain Lee was one of the dinner guests, it wasn't a good impression. The stews had no clue what was on the menu, or the wines they were going to pair with it, so everything was done last minute, and it really showed. Thankfully it all sort of came together, at least enough to make the guests happy, and they were able to escape without the feeling the wrath of the captain.

Then there was Eddie. I hadn't talked about him much this episode because, well, he wasn't there for a lot of it. We did get to see him randomly confess to Connie out of nowhere that he and his girlfriend weren't doing so well, and as much as she tried to comfort him, it really felt forced. It wasn't until the end of the episode that we really saw Eddie do much, and what was shown was shocking. He apparently sent Rocky some suggestive texts, saying that she should stay up later to relieve stress with him. He also said he loved her, which was pretty strange. I'm not sure if he was trying to get back at his girlfriend or if he really found her attractive, but once again, I don't get why all the guys want Rocky. I don't get it at all.

The episode rounds out with Dane, once again pushing the limits of everyone around him. He got totally drunk and belligerent, yelling at pretty much anyone who walked near him. I can't see him lasting much longer on this boat. I really can't.

This week was pretty crazy. I hope that the Kate and Leon drama gets resolved soon so we can move onto something interesting. It could be fun to see what happens when Emile (and the rest of the crew for that matter) finds out that Eddie and Rocky are kind of a thing. I can only imagine that even more crap is coming at the fan soon, and I really wanna be around to see what the aftermath is like.
