Steampunk'd Season 1 Episode 2 [Review]

It's that time again! I'm super excited to have yet another episode of Steampunk'd ready to review. Last week we got introduced to everyone, and the buzz is that things only get crazier. I have such a great feeling about this show, and it's contestants are all talented and fun. Let's dive right into episode two, shall we?

[Note: I would love to take screen caps of the final rooms, like I did with Skin Wars, but due to the limitations that GSN puts forth (IE no iTunes release), I have to rely on their previews online, which do not feature them.]

First thing's first. Jeannie welcomes the makers back for round two, and reveals the first room added to the manor. Of course it is last week's winner, Team Eddie, with their beautiful steampunk kitchen. The team only has moments to relish their win before the next challenge is announced. This time, it is a two-fer, as they have to create a "secret lair", part on the top floor, and part on the bottom floor. Kato makes sure to emphesise that they need to make the femme fatale, and Willeford stresses that they need a secret function.

Ave and Miss Morgan, being the two winners from last week, are our team captains this week. Ave being the top pick last week, gets to pick first, meaning that she gets the bigger team. Ave ends up choosing James, Karianne, Charles, and Tayliss, and Miss Morgan gets the team of Lady Hawk, Eddie and JW. I was really sad to see Tayliss chosen last, as she's so adorable and crazy talented with fashion. She would have been my top pick, for sure.

I honestly think that Ave picked my favorite team (Maybe with Karianne swapped for Lady Hawk), because let's face it. Charles and James are very good looking. They raid the punkyard and grab all sorts of stuff for their creations. Team Morgan is arrives a little later, possibly at a disadvantage. Ave's leadership is almost unrivaled, as she knows how to lead instead of boss. Charles has the hidden compartment, Karianne has the colors down, James has a few awesome gadgets and Tayliss is going to do the fashion again. This team has got it. down.

On the other side of the coin, Miss Morgan had some strong players, but she picked too strong of personalities. JW and Eddie both really seemed to try and railroad her throughout the development. In the end Miss Morgan was able to wrangle her team into something manageable. I think Lady Hawk was her saving grace, as she was a bit of the tipping factor to pull away from the boys' control.

Speaking of Lady Hawk, we got to see a lot of her back story in this episode, making me love her even more. She was very inspired by Kato, and who wouldn't be? That woman is flawless! She really got a chance to shine in this episode, and is quickly becoming one of my favorites. James got to flesh out his character, too, and I think I'm starting to get a little goo-goo eyes for him.

As the competition heats up, my lady Ave starts to falter. In a very bizarre moment, she starts to fall over while crouched over, and the camera men just sit there and watch her. It took a good while before a producer came out and called an ambulance. She gets hauled away, leaving the team to have to go on without their leader. Thankfully she is able to return for the second day, and not much ground is lost.

But on the second day of working, of course we have our favorite adorable hostess Jeannie there to throw in a twist. She gives them a mystery button. She says they can press it at any time, and something very good or very bad will happen. They all seem very hesitant to press the button, well everyone except Eddie and Lady Hawk. It was super hilarious hearing Ave's team talk behind her back about touching the button, but she quickly shut that down. Miss Morgan let's Eddie hit the button. The prize? Miss Morgan gets to send one of her team members to Ave's team and steal one back for her own team. She moves JW to Ave's team and brings on Charles. Well, now the cute team is corrupted.

I was really sad to see that Tayliss (my gurl!) and Karianne didn't get much screen time. I guess that's just how shows go, but without seeing the whole crew, I can't say I feel confident enough to pick my Team Gao just yet. Maybe next week.

Let's check out the Femme Fetale secret rooms.

Team Miss Morgan - The colors really look awesome. I like the concept of the alchemy lab, hitting close to home with my anime fandoms. The mechanical device was great, but I didn't see a real femme fetale part in it. The fashion Lady Hawk was wearing was far from my favorite thing I've seen so far. This one was a bit of a mixed bag.

Team Ave - I love the colors here, too. This team's femme fetale character was way better, looking like a steampunk saloon girl. The reds all tied together well, and made it feel like a complete work. The rifle was expertly made. The secret station was very lackluster and not really anything special. The Tobias voodoo doll was cute, but a bit unnecessary.

Just when you thought Miss Morgan was her own boss, JW steamrolled right over her again. It was really funny to see her freak out on him for taking all the credit for the things on her team. To be fair, she was right. He was just trying to save his hide.

I don't know how everyone else felt, but I really found it obvious who the winner of this week's challenge was. Team Ave swipes this win which is very well deserved. I feel like they were more cohesive and much more put together. The two top makers for next week's team captains are James in second place and JW as the top maker. As for our losing team, we have Charles and Lady Hawk in the bottom two. Sadly we had to say goodbye to Lady Hawk. I was glad to see Charles still on the show (as my crush shall live on), but it's already becoming tough to say goodbye to these makers.
