Skin Wars Season 2 Episode 3 [Review]

It's that time again! I love this show so much and all it's competitors. Now we've gotten to the point where I am going to be sad to see anybody go home. After last week's sad elimination I'm not sure if my heart can take it. But alas, we must go on, and check out the new episode of Skin Wars!

They walk in and see a big circle of chairs and instruments, as well as the judges including Zendaya, a musician and actor who I've never heard of but seems to be really famous. They are told they need to make a front or back musical instrument inspired painting. But they don't get to pick. They all have to play musical chairs, and what chair they get. This is probably the worst minichallenge set up for a reality show I've ever seen. Rebecca decides to do as many rounds as she wanted, which ended up being two.

After they start their two hour countdown things get  more exciting. Some of them, like Aryn, really have a good idea of where they are going. I'm glad to see my team thriving this week. Others struggle, like Fernello not having any clue what kind of emotions and accordion creates. Of course we get a bit about how Cheryl Ann is god's gift to body painting. Can you see my eye roll from there?

The judges had mostly good things to say about everyone. Several of them, including Rachel and Lana painted their models after music festivals, which are a lot of fun. It was really cute, too, to see Sammie talk about how star struck her daughter is was going to be. And to be fair, Cheryl Ann's painting was fun and very creative, but not the most solid looking.

After an awkwardly short discussion between the judges, they return for the top three. Aryn, Rio, and Lana take the top, causing a hilarious reaction from Cheryl, but alas she can't always have that ego so big. The winner is Rio, and it was well deserved. His painting was beautiful, and the hair blending into the model's hair was a great idea. Well deserved!

MFW Cheryl Ann talks.
Rebecca announces that now the group is going to do a team challenge. Rio, being the winner, gets to pick the teams. Ru advises him to be extra shady, and I have to say that's not exactly a bad idea. Rio picks the strongest painter, Avi, which is his best choice. Dawn and Cheryl become a team (The shade!), Aryn and Fernello team up (more shade!!), Kyle and Lana (Shade?) and Rachel and Sammie (Uhoh). Each team gets to pick two styles of music to paint and mashup into one. They each get to pick albums, and there seemed to be something that really spoke to everyone.

We actually get a house part this time to see them planning. Rachel seems to be pretty unsure about her partnership with Sammie. She feels that she is too in control. On the flip side, Sammie is rather annoyed by being paired with someone who has been in the bottom so often. And things look rough for Fernello, who gets all his ideas shot down by Aryn. I feel like it's the editing trying to make it look like they don't get along so that we can be surprised by the result.

That's not entirely true when it comes to Cheryl Ann and Dawn Marie. Dawn has the more patients than anybody I've ever seen in my life, because if I were called an assistant to someone who is my equal, I would be pissed as hell! Cheryl needs to back down. Others are meshing much better, such as Kyle and Lana, who don't get much screen time because there's not much drama there. Sammie got a lot more screen time this week, as Rachel tries to put her in a more negative light for not wanting to talk much. I guess it goes to show that if you stir the pot a bit, you get on the screen more.

The final results looked awesome across the board.
Lana and Kyle looked really cute with their models. It was a huge burst of color, but didn't seem to have a clear image of where it's going.
Fernello and Aryn were my favorite this week. The elements were all there, and it really screamed music to me.
Rio and Avi looked good separately, but their styles didn't mesh up well.
Cheryl Ann and Dawn Marie looks all Cheryl's style. Of course there's a damn horse. Paint something else woman. I'm beginning to think she can't.
Sammie and Rachel look colorful and fun. I like the glitter, and the paintings really meshed well together. They were another one that I liked this week.

After the judging and Rio channeling his inner Leshawn Beyond (This is not RuPaul's Best Friends Wars!), we get to see who are the tops and bottoms. The top two teams are Lana and Kyle as well as Rio and Avi. I believe the winner of this one is very obvious as Rio and Avi take the win. The full on winner turns out to be Rio. He really deserved this win. The Cheryl Ann/Dawn Marie team and Sammie/Rachel team are the bottoms, with Rachel and Sammie ultimately on the chopping block. I love Sammie so much, and when the announced Rachel was leaving, I couldn't help but sigh in relief.

The promos say that our new episode isn't for another two weeks? What? We'll see what that means, but for now let's keep our heads up. Team Gao is still here, and we're still goin' on.
