RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 Episode 6 [Review]

Can you believe it's time for another episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, already? Well I hope you aren't fat-shaming yourself too much after eating those chocolate bunnies because it's time for us to pass judgment on others. More specifically, it's time to read these girls to filth. And the thing is, it come so easily. The library is open! Wait it's not that episode yet? Damnit. At least it's the Snatch Game this week. No? Really? Well then. Let's see what insanity is in store for us.

The girls head back into the work room after Kasha's elimination and not much feels different. I guess none of the girls were really all that close to her, because the vibe is on a more positive one, even to the point of Kandy joking that she can send anyone home in a lip sync. Oh, editors, how you do make me smile.

It's brought up again how Violet won Shadiest Queen in the DESPYs, and they asked her how she felt. She was unsurprised, but said she was determined to change how she came across to people. Violet keeps swearing she's a nice person, but we haven't seen it yet. Maybe she can change, but if she's spent five episodes being the bitch of the show, she might as well stick to her guns on it. I mean if you've created a character, it's best to keep it going.

Our mini challenge this week is one of my favorites. Very similar to "Wacha Packin" from season five, the extended pit crew comes out with numbers stuck down their bulges. Each queen gets to pick man by man to wrack up points, but if she gets the monster, she instantly loses. These girls get so carried away with the bulges, that everyone except for Ginger completely blew it. Not like oral, but like -- oh hell you get what I mean. I really do miss Andrew Christian being a sponsor of the show because Justin Case underwear is boring as hell and kind of ugly. Oh well. At least Papi was a sexy beast here.

Ginger was the winner her by default, as she was the only one who didn't get the monster bulge, so she got to pick her team and pair up the rest. She blurts out Katya and Kennedy like she's been deviously planning this all along, and them instantly teams up the others as Jaidynn-Pearl-Fame and Max-Violet-Kandy. The main challenge this week, to celebrate the return of season 1-2 judge Meryl Ginsberg, is a behind the scenes acting challenge about what really happened between seasons two and three to get Michelle on the judges panel.

Mind you, this sounds like it would be a ton of fun, but being that it's Drag Race, I'm expecting it to be such an out of this world parody that it will hardly be enjoyable. Man, I'm cynical. But alas, it's pretty much what happened.

The girls go to practice and it's painfully obvious who is going to do well and who is going to do bad. Usually I complain about editing here, but after seeing the finished product, they really did show what they had. I'm guessing their time with Ross directing was extremely limited because the takes we saw in the practices were the takes that we saw in the finished products. Yikes.

It was clear that Ginger, Katya, and Pearl did the best from the rehearsals, and it was clear that Jaidynn, Kandy, and Fame royally screwed up.

In a rare touching moment, we got to hear the girls talk about their families. It started with Katya, as she stated that her family was very supportive and she had nothing to complain about. Jaidynn, on the other hand, never truly came out to her family. She said that her mother still says she will one day find the right woman to marry. It was sad seeing that she felt she would be disowned if she came out, and that being on the show is a huge risk for her. Oh gurl. I feel for you.

Now we move onto the main stage. Category is:

Wait a second is that Ariana Grande? Well damn. Can't get Gaga but you got Grande. At least she doesn't come across as a huge bitch.

Anyway! Category is: Dead Drag! How will your drag persona die!?

Katya - Before she even said it I got the Sharknado reference. It was so damn funny! She had a plush shark eating her leg and she was hobbling everywhere. Katya consistently hams up the runway in the best way possible.
Ginger Minj - Ginger is a big miss again this week. The bear hood is not cute. The whole idea is not cute. This challenge was either go fabulous or go scary, and she went so far camp she is in kindergarten camp. Honey, please.
Kennedy Davenport - This girl gave us a chicken outfit worse than every first sent home queen in the show's history combined. She made Jiggly's baked potato outfit look glamorous. Oh GOD.
Max - One of the best looks for this episode. Max is serving old Hollywood glamor and is beautiful. The heart in a box was a nice touch to add to the story of her costume. This is in the top two looks of the night.
Kandy Ho - Here's where I have a problem. I like this look. The last few weeks they've been telling her to have a concept beyond a pretty dress, she does it, and they rip her to shreds. Yes, the vampire thing has been done before, but she did it well. Don't rip on something you asked for, judges.
Miss Fame - She gives us the same dress style, the same hair style (albiet plastic in this case), and the same overall look. She's the Honey Mahogany of this competition.
Pearl - This girl had a great concept, but I didn't exactly like the way it was carried out. We get the same granny panty "Lingerie" from her pretty much all the time. Step outside that box, girl!
Jaidynn Diore Fierce - I actually liked this Orange is the New Black look. It did well for her. It did look a bit lazy, but the challenge was to show how you'd die, and if this bitch thinks she's destined for jail, let her be.
Violet Chachki - Let's face it. We were all waiting for this look from the super trailer. This is EVERYTHING. That waist. Oh my god. YES!

The video versions of the Ru Hollywood Stories weren't really all that funny. The people I said would be good were good, those I knew would be bad were bad. The videos themselves were relatively unfunny and not really that good of a watch. They each had a couple of laughs (mostly from the "security camera"), but they were all so messy and if you haven't been watching the show every year for the past seven years, you won't really get it. This episode was a bit of a payoff for people who have watched extensively.

The judging flew by, mostly because it was pretty obvious who was were. It was so refreshing to see Katya finally get a win in! I was a bit taken back when I saw that it was Jaidynn instead of Miss Fame in the bottom two, but I was not shocked to see Kandy there. Sadly, just when I was starting to like that ho, she had to sashay away. When it comes down to it, I was glad to see Jaidynn Stay. Both of our big girls are still here, and for the most part doing well.

Team Gao is still going strong. Ginger, Max, and Katya have all won challenges and are fighting their way to the top. Next week looks to be the Snatch Game, and at this point, it's anybody's game!

  1. Justin Case Underwear is boring? Does Andrew Christian make polka dot, zebra, or any other fun printed underwear? Nope. Most of his stuff is the same old solid BORING fabrics. The only thing he excels in is having men grind on one another in videos …. over and over again… (we get it Andrew sex sells)… GaoSalad, it seems like you're just an easy sell. #BasicGay. If you want that kind of excitement, watch porn buddy. Justin Case actually is a great brand that also gives back to the community by donating underwear and socks to gay youth centers throughout America. Please enlighten your readers on why Andrew Christian has such a superior collection. I would love to read what BS you've come up with. *BTW Good luck trying on taking over the universe in Arkansas….
