RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 Episode 4 [Review]

Are you guys ready for the most controversial elimination on Drag Race since season two sending home Pandora Box? Well good news! This episode was bonkers. I literally have no words. Ok, so that's a lie. I have a lot of words, or else I wouldn't be reviewing it, right? Well let's get this mess started.

The bearded ladies walk back into the work room after Jasmine's elimination. I had almost forgotten how hilarious they looked. After Pearl gets her wakeup call via a glass of water in the face, the girls get a message from Ru about their next challenge. Newsflash: No mini challenge this episode. We are going straight into the main challenge. Red flag number one is up.

Ru tells them they are going to be parodying his songs. They have to sing, write, and do a music video. It must be nice to have your own music to plug on your own TV show so you don't have to tangle with getting the rights to even more songs outside of the lip syncs. The girls get to divide themselves up into teams. Trixie, Pearl, Fame, and Katya instantly cling to each other, as do the true comedy divas Kasha, Ginger, Kennedy and Kandy. Left over is Max, Jaidynn, and Violet. These teams were bound for disaster. Red flag number two -- up.

They rush into the recording booth to get started, and of course Luciane Piane is there. Again, I feel like the show is being really lazy. Luciane is on retainer for Ru any time she needs to record an album, and he's been a staple for the singing challenges since season two. I feel like they have the cashflow to bring in a big name from the producer world, but instead we get what we have had in years past. Nothing new to see here.

Team Trixie goes to record first, and Katya is their star player. Even with Luciane's critiques of her style, she had the most laughs and the most fun. She was energetic and the only one who tried to sing like she was the character from her music video. Trixie and Pearl couldn't get the octaves right. Fame thought she was talented, but that didn't seem to be so. Sorry gurl. I know we're cool, but sorry.

Team Max was really put together in the studio. Even though Violet got a bit snippy with Luciane, they still kept their cool and were overall the most nice-sounding of the three groups. Unfortunately we didn't get to see Max sing, but Jaidynn really had the group put out with their best foot forward.

When it came down to Team Ginger, we really didn't see much of their studio time at all. Most of it was Kasha being insane. I kinda wanna make this my red flag number three, but it's not.

Next up we have the video shoots. To be honest, I really hated watching this. I felt like we only got to see the negatives, such as Trixie being completely useless on set and Pearl and Fame being at odds with each other. I mean can we please see some of the girls' talents? Isn't that why they are there? This is starting to reach American Idol audition levels of sad with seeing them fail over and over.

At least Ginger is still funny.

Right before the runway we get to see more in the work room, and they go over the topic of Sahara Davenport. I knew it would happen sooner or later, especially since Kennedy shares the same name. She says that she was unable to go to the funeral because of lack of funds. It was so heartbreaking to hear.

We also get a small bit about Trixie and Pearl being friends from before the show started. Apparently they worked together in Chicago before Pearl moved. Red. Flag. Number. Three.

Onto the main stage with guests Jessica Alba and the producer dude! Category is: Green.

Pearl - This girl looked SICKENING! I finally am feeling the love for Pearl. She may not be Team Gao, but I'd let this snake slither onto this site any time she wants.
Miss Fame - As much as I like her as a person, I feel like I've seen the same looks from her over and over. Her makeup is always the same, and she always serves old Hollywood glamor. I feel like we haven't seen anything different from her.
Trixie Mattel - I want to like this look but I don't The little geisha look isn't working for me at all. No gurl.
Katya - Team Gao represent! I am not sold on her look this week, but her humor really saved her. She sissied that leg, and she made sure to stomp it out so they saw just how far up that leg slit went! Yes! Once again, Katya's humor saves her.
Max - She is always in the top as far as looks go. She is always fully conceptualized from the moment she walks out on stage. Her one downfall was she only had green nipple pasties. The challenge was all green, so it was a slight miss. She still looked amazing.
Jaidynn Diore Fierce - I really wanted to like her this week, but I feel like there was just too much going on. The neon camo with the gold sunglasses with the glitter lipstick and eye shadow with the gold glitter top. It was all just too much.
Violet Chachki - This gurl has more obviously contoured on boobs than Phi Phi O'Hara, girl. Maybe it was just the lighting there, but they stood out in a bad way. The outfit was fun, though. Green circus show girl. Not bad, not great.
Kandy Ho - This girl's gotta go. She is forgettable. Every. Single. Time. Her dress was very basic and unflattering. At least she fixed her makeup.
Mrs. Kasha Davis - Here is another queen that I'm more or less convinced we've seen all she has. We get yet another look where she looks like a rich housewife in a long gown. Personality wise I like her but I'm not a huge fan of her looks. She needs to stand out in a good way. That money boa was pretty genius, though.
Kennedy Davenport - This dress is ugly. I really can't stand it. It's every drag cliche piled onto one look. Neeeeeext.
Ginger Ming - Yes! She finally shows us something glamorous. I've been waiting for the glamortoad to come out of her shell!

Not gonna lie, I didn't care much for any of the music videos. Team Trixie was a huge mess sans Katya and Team Ginger relied too much on their (albeit funny) lyrics while the video was boring. The only ones I feel had a good balance of video, lyrics, and look was Team Max, even if Max herself was the weakest of the three. But damn did Jaidynn make one hell of a Bianca, and whether or not she can sing, Violet sure as hell knew how to transform herself into Adore physically.

After Kennedy is crowned the winner, we move onto who sucked it up. The bottom three were pretty obvious. Trixie Mattel gets tossed into the the ring early, leaving Pearl and Kandy to get the long and drawn out decision from Ru as to who will be her competitor. Eventually Ru announces that Pearl is in the bottom for some weird reason, when it's Kany who faded into the background. Maybe Ru just forgot she was there and thats why she chose Pearl.

These red flags making sense now? For the second week in a row, two queens who are apparently best friends (even though we didn't get to see it at all) went up against each other. Literally ever person watching knew Pearl was going home, but then again, Ru likes to shake things up. Instead of having Pearl sashay away, he chose Trixie. The reasoning was that she hadn't brought the camp factor she promised in her audition tape.

Holy. Crap. Trixie was a front runner in this competition, and to see her go home before others that were pegged as throw-away queens was a huge shock to the entire fandom. Even people who didn't like her have to admit that there were at least two or three girls that deserved the boot before her.

Well Team Gao is still in tact, but my alternate is gone. Good luck girls, but we all know you gonna fxxk it up anyway!
