Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills Season 5 Episode 17 [Review]

Just when you think the vacation story arc can't get any more intense -- it does! What the hell was I thinking expecting a calm moment or two. Not with the ladies of the streets of the B.H. They play hard or don't play at all. Speaking of not playing at all, the iTunes store was down, which is why this is a day late. Lord help us have all the regularly scheduled posts on time next week. Amen.

By the way, this is another MFW (My Face When) screen cap week.

We start off this week in the damn Twilight Zone. Lisa R and Brandi are not only acting very nicely towards each other, but they are also hanging out. That's right. Lisa R blows off Eileen and Kyle's trip to the museum to go shopping with Brandi, Kim, and Vanderpump. It felt really bizarre, and the only one with enough gall to say anything is Eileen. The others just kind of go along with it.

It's revealed quickly as to why the charade is being played out, too. The show's most down to Earth and lovely star, Yolanda, is bed ridden due to her inability to cope with the drama. After a short talk with Kyle about how she needs to stand strong in her role as Kim's sister, they part ways, and we get a few montages of the girls out doing their various sightseeing things, but who cares about that? Let's get to the drama.

One of the saddest scenes of the season came right after the girls got back to the hotel. Eileen pulled Rinna aside to talk about how idiotic she's been. I was really expecting a rift between the two girls as Eileen really dug into her about acting like everything was OK, but Rinna took it surprisingly well. Rinna just seemed to be scared of Kim, which is a hilarious contrast to a few episodes ago when she was saying she had no idea why people were scared of her. The talk, while overall positive, really didn't seem to change either woman's opinion on the situation at hand.

The canal segment of this show is probably the most frustrating moment I've ever had with this show. We start out on the boat, with everyone pretending to be OK. Things probably would have stayed this way, but Kyle couldn't hold it in any longer and got up. The other girls saw this as an opportunity to let it all go out on blast and start talking. Eileen took center stage, and began going over some issues she had with Brandi. This is where I began to get annoyed. First off, Eileen's issues with Brandi, while valid, are kind of the minor issue at the moment, considering that the day before Kim was spewing hatred and Rinna was throwing wine glasses. Secondly, is Amsterdam really the place to hash this all out?

You know a situation is bad when Lisa Vanderpump is the only person I am agreeing with at this point. It was getting to the boiling point when Vanderpump suggest they keep up the pretending for just a bit longer to get home before unleashing the drama, but then again, who has taken her advice as of late. Maybe I should like her more often.

My frustration only grew when the now age-old habit of these ladies never being able to stay on topic came up. We jumped topics more times than I could count. Really. My notes that I jot down while I watch the show are literally all over the map. First Eileen is confronting Brandi, then she confronts Kim, then Kim says she's saying things she's not (proven with flashbacks. Shady shade, Bravo editors), then Brandi is mad at the mystery person talking crap on her being an alcoholic. It's like every problem, no matter how miniscule or how gargantuan, came to light at this very moment.

Fed up with this group of ladies, Yolanda, my only love at this low point in the show, goes off to have dinner by herself. Slowly, but surely, each woman joins her. Yolanda does get to voice her opinions on the matters, saying she simply wishes that Kim would accept Eileen's apologies, as they are heartfelt. Leave it to her to find the only light in this dark situation.

To try and turn the situation light, Brandi (of all people) decides to make a game where everyone has to say something positive about another person. This moment was so cute as everyone went around one by one and said really great things about one another. Well, everyone but Brandi. Her answers were very superficial, such as nice hair or small waist, but she was the one who came up with the game. I really didn't get the tactic here. She did say some very kind things about Kim, but when it came to be Brandi's turn she ran away. In the end we only got to hear two people say nice, genuine things about her before she put her foot down and put a stop to it.

Wrapping up this eventful boat ride, we have the slap heard round the world. Bravo has been teasing this slap literally for months. This slap was in the mega teaser for the season. I'm pretty sure they went into the future and saw this slap and decided to hire her on as a full time cast member after season two. The truth? It wasn't really as bad as the show made it seem. Sure Brandi slapped her, but she also threw wine in Eileen's face, shoved Kyle, and embarrassed Yolanda in her home city. Is a drunken slap in the middle of a play fight really that shocking? I don't really think she should have done it, but this was what they chose to promo? It really didn't live up to the hype.

The episode ends on a bit of a slow point, with Brandi and Lisa V each recanting their own version of what happened with the slap. Brandi seems a bit oblivious as to how serious it was, and Vanderpump is outraged. She, of course, tells Kyle, who is the queen of overreacting to everything in the world ever, so this ought to be fun to see play out.

Overall this vacation arc was insane. I am so glad it is coming to an end, but from the looks of the next episode, the biggest fight is yet to come. Then again, as seen above, Bravo's editing skills are very deceitful (remember how they tried to play Kim off as being crazy with the puppet when really she was just acting?). With seventeen episodes down, the show is going to be coming to an end soon. Where will the alliances fall in the final moments of the season. And how many parts will the reunion be.

Is it bad that this is literally the question I want answered the most?
