Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 5 Episode 3 [Review]

The drama just never stops with this group of girls. We have a common theme going now, with Brandi on the road to making amends, but it won't all got as easily as with Adrienne. While this episode might not have been as action packed as some in the past, it certainly does it's job to keep us entertained. And if that's not enough for you, I'm sure Kyle's hideously gorgeous outfit in the photo below will do the job. Let's get reviewin'!

 The events of the episode kick off with Lisa R.'s birthday. She decides to have the party at Lisa V.'s restaurant Pump, which really, to me, seems like another flimsy pretext to have Lisa V. involved in what's going on with the show. Nobody seems to like filming with her what so ever, and the vast majority of her scenes this year have been her at her house with her husband. It doesn't even really explain how the Lisas know each other (though I guess it's because Lisa R. signed up for the show), so the birthday party being there seemed really forced and fake. I did like getting to hear about how the wives first met their husbands and how they've all been married for 10+ years. Just goes to show you that not all is bleak in the world of marriage, especially when it comes to this franchise.

We move on to the other ladies, and we get to see Yolanda, once again struggling with the idea of her children moving out. I love that she is bouncing back and forth between being happy for them and happy they are leaving the house to being sad that they will be out on their own and not need her. It's really realistic, and oddly enough, we don't get "realistic" too often from this show. Yolanda, even with all her success as a model and being the wife to a huge TV star, seems to be the most grounded and normal of this group of ladies.

I do however wish she would stop vocally hashtagging herself. That's gross, gurl.

We also get a small glimpse at the continuing storyline of Portia becoming a spoiled rich kid much to Kyle's dismay. They have a short shopping segment where she displays the usual tantrums you'd expect from a little one, but it seems like this will come to a head later this season, with all the focus it's getting.

Now for the big meat of the episode. There are three big things that happen, the biggest of which was that we finally get to meet Eileen. She was a co-star of Lisa R's so her only part in this episode, in order to be introduced, is lunch with her. They have a very strange relationship. I believe that as they've had to, and probably currently are doing so, compete for the same jobs in Hollywood that their friendship can only truly go so far. When Lisa R. was talking with her and "complimenting" her, it sounded like she was being a bit fake or dishonest. The same could be said for when Eileen returned said compliments. Who knows? Maybe that's just how they joke around with each other, but it seemed to me like if they hadn't both gotten the job on this show, they wouldn't have had this reconnecting lunch.

I don't feel like we really got a good enough look at Eileen to make a feel for how she is. It's the third episode and everyone is already starting up their storylines for the season, so she's got some catching up to do. Luckily, Kyle and Yolanda are leaving town for Europe in the next episode, so maybe we'll get a better idea of what Eileen is all about.

Next up we had the wedding planning. Kim's daughter is getting married and she, along with her two sisters (yeah, the Hilton) go to help Brooke pick out a dress. It was a very touching moment when we find out that Kim's first husband, and current best friend, is living with her while he battles against cancer. They want him to be around for Brooke's wedding which makes for an even more depressing outlook. It was nice to see the family back together and happy with each other. They've been put through trials by being on the show, much like Teresa and Melissa in New Jersey, but they've bounced back and made it work. Good for them.

Rounding out the episode we have Brandi and Kyle hiking, where Brandi spontaneously decides to call Lisa V. to see if she would come to her party. Lisa is very annoyed by the whole ordeal and is pretty much done with Brandi, but Brandi is really pushing for some kind of resolution. Thins got heated momentarily, but they calmed down a bit, ending on a question mark as to whether Lisa would really show up to the house warming.  I really don't know if this relationship can be fixed.

In a nice change of events, this episode had  a lot of positivity to it. I liked the nice vibes most of the ladies (sans Vanderpump) were giving off. I know that it won't last long, but this week was a bit of a breath of fresh air with minimal fighting and minimal drama. I wish the best for Brandi in her quest for forgiveness and let's hope that Kyle's vacation goes well (because we know from the next episode preview that Yolanda's won't).
