Album Review - Xelle "Queens"

It's been a bittersweet week for me. I got to see the beautiful Mimi Imfurst back on TV, but only for a brief moment before she was sent home. Luckily, this gave her the perfect opportunity to release he group XELLE's long anticipated EP "Queens".This has been a long time coming, and I'm glad to finally see the finished product.

The EP has a few familiar tracks for those who have been following XELLE over the past year. All three of the girls' singles are present, including their smash debut "Party Girl". As much as I love the singles, They have been out for a while now, and I have grown weary for new music. Not to say that the singles don't stand well on their own. "Invincible" still brings me warm and positive feelings, as it is one of the only "believe in yourself/you are not alone" songs that actually feels genuine and not manufactured.

The album's most prominent track is the new single, which also doubles as the name for the album. "Queen" is a quirky track about being the center of your universe. The track uses the word "queen" as a double meaning, making it vague whether they mean queen in the literal meaning, or queen as in drag queen. The video clouds the meaning even more, depicting all three of the girls in drag makeup, as well as having tons (and I mean TONS) of Drag Race alumni. The video has reached over 100,000 views in three days, which is an impressive feat for any group.

"Sweat" is a very interesting album track. While not as polished as the singles they obviously tired over for days on end, it is a quick song about letting loose. The song is a much darker sounding song than the rest of the album, talking about straight up sex without a lot of metaphors getting in the way. This track is the most sexual on the album, creating a different vibe for a moment, and feeling the most out of place.

Of the remaining tracks, "Love Affair" and "The City", I prefer the latter. "The City" slows down the mix, giving us a gripping and involved track. I'm always a fan of the songs that slow it down and sound different from what an artist has done before. "Love Affair" is notable, however, as it is one of the few songs where you can clearly hear Mimi singing on her own as opposed to just doing the speak-rap portions in the songs. That made me smile.

I can honestly say this EP was worth the wait. Hell, the song "Queen" was worth the wait. They may have pushed back the "Hologram" video yet again, but as proven with this EP, they keep true to their promises and live up to their hype. Mimi, JC, and Ronny are three extraordinary girls who have talent and beauty on their side, which will push them far.

The group has a knack for picking amazing singles, and they have a great habit of making staying true to and communicating with their fans. The EP itself is evident of both of these factors, especially since we all pleaded for more Mimi, and that's exactly what we got. My only complaint would be with iTunes, and not the group themselves, as the "complete my album" feature doesn't seem to be working with this EP, meaning I'd have to pick around the singles as opposed to just bulk-buying the rest of the album.

Speaking of which, the EP is up for sale on iTunes. Grab your copy and support our girls. They deserve it.
